  • Is that a starling at the end? I'm horrible at baby bird I.d

  • @opusjosh That was a Robbin-one of two that a crow stole from a nest

  • @FruittisMaris opossums babies are interesting to feed:) baby squirrels are the best though

  • I had a high school teacher who had a Red Tail that had a badly damaged wing. We got along very well and I would pet her and visit a little bit every day. I thought she was a complete sweetheart till I saw her react to a kid who had flicked things at her. She had a long memory!

I will never forget her. Wonderful bird. My good friend.

  • Silent Hill music?

  • You're a real human sir ,for doing such work and help ,and someone to be proud off

on behalf of Belgium Falconery Club SG110

    thank u

  • @khosro7 Tank you, your comment wasmuch appreciated!

  • OnO Poor thing, at least she seems to be feeling better. I really hope she'll be able to live on her own, and that her eye is not damaged enough to do that. Best of luck to the both of you!

  • Do Hawks feel more naturally comfortable with touching and general communication? Your beautiful Snowy Owl seems very hostile to human interaction in comparison with this hawk! :)

  • @petrolhead229 My experience is this: Arctic(Snowy)Owls and Barn Owls are amongst the most aggressive and the hardest to train.Blizzard will walk up to me wanting to be picked up,but will hiss the whole time untill I do pick him up.We have two other Red Tails here and the female is easy to capture while the male is a bit feistier. So yes, I believe hawks(Red Tails-NOT Cooper's,Sharp Shinned or some of the other hawks)are more accepting.

  • @petrolhead229 Just an FYI-Don't go up to an injured hawk (or any wild raptor) and expect to touch it or pick it up.Most cases it will go into attack/defense position (roll on it's back and expose talons) If you see this, stay away ! Those feet are extremely fast and needle sharp ! If an Owl nabs you it will hurt like hell and you're going to get bloody -If a Hawk grabs you , you will not get it to let go(think vice grip)Honest to God, you will never forget being groped by a Hawk!

  • Such a pretty bird! How do you determine whether they are releasable or not?

  • @jumpbacktome She is a beautiful bird and her only (major) injury is her eye. Being hit so hard in the head has caused brain swelling ,which causes a lot of disorientation (sideways is up ,blurred vision etc) and in a lot of cases nerve damage retinal/cornea damage as well . Sometimes these problems right themselves , sometimes not. Surgery doesn't always work (as is the case with Blizzard the snowy owl). Right now it is just the sight in her eye that is limiting her release

  • @jumpbacktome My first reply to you probably wasn't much help was it ? What determines an animal's releaseability is one thing - can it survive on it's own. Hawks, because of their range of vision and how they use it to avoid trees and predators as well as hunt, have an extreemly high mortality rate in the wild when sight is limited to one eye

  • I love possums! I feed them every night!

  • @FruittisMaris I do too :)

  • @MrRelhed Oh really? Bless your heart! I feel bad for them! I feed them honey graham O's what ever is left over in the house! A little cat food! But I make sure there is something out every night!

    What do you recommend?

  • @FruittisMaris Since they are basically little garbage cans with legs, they will eat most anything.I will usually try anything that would go into a compost bin and see what they like.I do however feed them dry and canned cat food (not the best diet, but they do eat elsewhere in the wild) I will let them pick over the leftover turkey carcass, chicken etc -just don't leave it out there too long or you'll have more "friends" than you care to.

  • @FruittisMaris Oh, BTW - if you leave household food stuffs out (like turkey etc) just be sure to clean up and throw out any remaining "leftovers" by morning

  • @MrRelhed I never leave bones out! Cause I have outdoor cats too!

  • @FruittisMaris You won't have any problems then . If you really wanna have some fun , go down to the pet store and get a med to lg Kong (an oddly shaped thick rubber thing that you fill with soft dog treats) and fill with either wet cat food or peanut butter (or anything else) tie the rope (comes with rope on end) to something sturdy and watch them go nuts

  • @MrRelhed That's a good idea! But I live in the city! Well a suburb! And I just want to make sure they eat and go!

  • Boy he likes BEEF!

  • @FruittisMaris There's rat in there too :P We buy those frozen -

  • Like a baby <3 I hope she going well now. (Sorry if my english is bad, I try to do my best)

  • @jessi259 She is getting better as time goes on,and yes she is just like a baby :) she will squeek when being fed , won't go after her food ( i have to rip it up and feed it to her just like mom would) . We think she regressed due to the head injury-we may have to teach her how to be a hawk again :) BTW your English is just fine
