I cringe when some bastard says "It's all in the fun; don't take it serious", all while they're mixing competitiveness, favoritism/exclusionism and narrowing society's sense of 'creativity', by clearly implying to the 'losers' that their ideas aren't "right".

church drummers are very dominante in the usa music scene and not because they got jesus on their side or anything , its just a place that give kids a decent drum set and a place to pratice all day long(which all of us drummers knows how priceless that is)

Im glad sampson won this year. Was a good show, especially for 10 bucks general admission! Tommy Lee Ruined it at the end with Some techno drumming shit, but the first 3 hours were fun.

rome is from up my way. he's definately grown. he completely sucked in past drum off's but in each one every year you could see him grow. his persistence payed off.
its got nothing to do with race. the black drummers that win more than likely come from a gospel background and are expected to sound polished when they play. coupled with the fact that gospel music pulls heavily from the pop and r&b world. it was a natural progression for those three genres to utillize the same drummers since they want the same fundamental sound from the rhythm section. thats why so many of them are getting shine now. its logic not racism.

they say they look for talent but they really look for entertainment value. i mean, ron bruner lost and look where he is in his career and no one even remembers the guy who won that year. i've flat out seen rome get burned by better cats the year he won but rome had the stick twirling and what have you. he was even surprised when they called his name as one of the initial 3 winners because there was a metal cat and a gospel styled cat who were both redicuously better than him.
like american idol, they don't look for the best singer they look for americas' favorite singer. its bootleg but its really reflective of the american entertainment industry. you don't necessarily have to be talented just be marketable.

come on dog. their out there. the thing is the gospel drummers (who just happen to be black) are getting a lot of play because the gospel community DEMANDS a lot from it's drummers. come to the atl and you'll find a gang of drummers who play gospel and are white and rip. just hang out in the guitar center and i guarantee that every black drummer playin in there aint good.

its got nothing to do with race. the black drummers that win more than likely come from a gospel background and are expected to sound polished when they play. coupled with the fact that gospel music pulls heavily from the pop and r&b world. it was a natural progression for those three genres to utillize the same drummers since they want the same fundamental sound from the rhythm section. thats why so many of them are getting shine now. its logic not racism.

ya know what. i did missunderstand. i deeply apologize. but when i saw all of the black drummer stuff(which were most of the comments) i wigged out. being black i hate when people pull the "black guys are always the best drummers" garbage. especially living in atlanta with so many sick drummers, white, black, latino or otherwise. but you hit the nail on the head, bump political correctness. they outright pick the showiest drummer not the best drummer.

they say they look for talent but they really look for entertainment value. i mean, ron bruner lost and look where he is in his career and no one even remembers the guy who won that year. i've flat out seen rome get burned by better cats the year he won but rome had the stick twirling and what have you. he was even surprised when they called his name as one of the initial 3 winners because there was a metal cat and a gospel styled cat who were both redicuously better than him.

like american idol, they don't look for the best singer they look for americas' favorite singer. its bootleg but its really reflective of the american entertainment industry. you don't necessarily have to be talented just be marketable.
