I saw them live when I was 12 in sebastopol, CA. Really shed new light on my.. knowing? of music. I'm now 18, I still have their CD, with this song, AND the meanings. =]
this is much of the sacred music of our Slav brethren...IF you don't understand it , keep all ignorant comments to yourself, may the God of Gods have mercy on you souls........mikhail
Ordered their song book, with Hubava Milka in it. Really excited for it to get here so I can do it with my choir. Love the song, although it's kind of a macabre story.
I met them a couple of times, they're great. I used to follow them around California when I lived there, catch them whenever I could. I haven't been able to see them in a couple of years since I moved to Arizona. They don't come up this way much.
GayleMI is obviously comparing Kitka to Sweet Honey In The Rock, which I don't get. The two are completely different (Kitka being choral and SHIR being communal) and the heart that doesn't have room for both is small and unevolved indeed.
Браво момичета!

If you ever get a chance to see them in person, don't miss it. They're even more amazing up close. You'll be transported to another place and time.

Your singing is, as Garrison Keillor has said, transcendent. I wish everyone could hear your voices and be as moved as I am.

Kitka is also the Finnish word for friction of conflict.
