Unfortunately India has become just another player on the capitalist stage. It already has a vast pool of absolute poverty and is 'developing', i.e. growing billionaires. The government is completely divorced from the problems and lives of the common people. India may have a vibrant culture but it was a collection of petty tyrannies long before it was a united democracy. That's why the British found it so easy to conquer.

i think mr shashi tharoor can do wonders but after all this i have lost hope , me bieng a citizen of india has lost hope in the whole system , never expected this from mr shashi tharoor , i am sure the people who jumped on congress for the whole issue are also involved in it . recent news says the underworld money is also involved , i am shocked and have lost faith in the indian high society professionals.

Only time can tell whether he will be a good leader or not, but he is definitely a good ambassador for India. He can, along with the educated youth, change the picture of India that others have in their mind. Its our duty to remove the 'beggar with a bowl and a child' image of India, and showcase an image of educated and potential youth.

Let the world think what they think of us. Why are we so concerned about our 'image'. Lets work hard like China keeping our values and preferences intact. If we will prosper, eradicate poverty and bring about changes which can portray the true colors of India, the 21th century India. They themselves will start writing about the incredible, powerful, vibrant and the new age India. Why we have to go and put Mr. Tharoor (with all due respect to him) as a 'picture' of true India, which he is not.

I agree we are steeped in dynastic politics for now but things will change. Shashi Tharoor might just be the person who brings about that change. He has all the ingredients of a capable, dynamic, charismatic leader, someone who is comfortable on the world stage and will not stick out like a sore thumb like so many of our "leaders". If you ask me, I have no doubt in my mind that he will one day become our Prime Minister.

Tharoor is good in giving eloquent speeches and has a cheerful, charming smile to take people onto his side. But that is not enough to remove the pot holes of TVM. His vision of making TVM a global city is a joke. Not even basic civic amenities like water and electricity, sewage overflowing, garbage everywhere, mallus peeing on walls, spitting everywhere, honking proudly and still shouting the 100% literacy mantra.
