For some people who don't understand some things - the mechanical load depends on the electrical load. If you connect a high power device to the output, it will draw high current, so it will put more load on the alternator requiring more power to spin it, which will in turn put more load on the engine.
Interesting Idea. Yes, the alternator would need to turn faster, but a person found a way to to power (2) 12 volt motors using an alternator, he built a robot basically.
It can be done. one would need some step up transformers as well.
i am looking to do the same thing with my weed eater and alternator. i am gonna direct connect the alternator to a 400 watt power inverter. i dont know if it will take the load but we will find out!!
@TylerTylerFrankFrank yeh that sould be fine all day every day, but personally i would put a 12v batt of some form between the alt and the inverter only due to the face of burning ur alrernator electronice out (mainly the regulators) and also when u put a sudden load on the alternator it takes more to spin it so the batt with take some of the instante strain
pointless!!!

Nice FOD rolling around in there just waiting to become the first monkey wrench to screw it all up.

@gumpdy
no idea ...depends on the alternator and motor power
