I lived at 222 schwerin bld b apt 1105. I was very young and impressionable. I ended up hanging with the wrong crowd and ultimatly losing my apt. It was home although I would not consider it to be a big loss. The roaches were too much even though my apt was clean. I only found roaches behind the stove. I did not have kids and I worked, so roaches did not come to live. I miss the Towers even though they were a living hell.
I lived on the 10th floor, apt 1005. It was a cool place back in 1986 but you had to resolve your whole life around the elevators. Of the three, only 2 worked the whole time I lived there for 4 years. The roaches were a constant fight, and I was super clean. Glad it's gone. What a rat trap!
That's crazy! I lived in the B building on the 5th floor until 1987. Elevators sometimes didn't work so we had to use the piss infested-dirty ass stairs with no lights. Sometimes people didn't use the garbage chute and just threw there trash out the balcony window onto the playing areas.
The destruction of the towers was one of the best things to ever happen to San Francisco. It was reported that shortly after the Loma Prieta earthquake on Oct. 17, 1989, a bus that had the misfortune to be there was attacked by low-life gang bangers where they stormed the bus and robbed passengers, one of whom was injured badly. The towers were occupied by criminals.
One of the worst house projects in the city. I lived on sunnydale from the 1978-1983. glad to see places like cabrini green and robert taylor in chicago and geneva towers in sf go.
umm..I lived next to a white family when I was there. there were also asians that lived there too. I know that youre the type who like to stir up shyt, typical of people like you. lol
i watched that from john maclaren park! i was 8 years old and it felt like we waited for ever to see the buildings come down. i also went to a day care in sunndale called john maclaren. anyone know if its still a day care?
dont you think about the people in those projects? you know yo house aint worth 700k and you scared of being robbed. bullshit cuz if that was true, you wouldnt be braggin, you be hiding it.
I was sitting on the hillside with the other bazillion people taking pictures. The helicopters were cool though. It was like one big'ole party! Great times.
How unbelieveable that someone shot this video from the exact pov that I remember and as the video plays I hear myself in the back ground along with my friend as we stand up to leave. Proves the point you cant go nowhere and not be in someones home video or dvd. Thanks for the blast from the past videographer!
I watched this from the Sunnydale Housing Projects - luckily the dust moved away from me! I believe this was the first ever demolition by implosion in San Francisco. On Sunday, March 28, 1999 I witnessed the only other implosion I know of that happened in SF, SFSU's Verducci Hall.
I was at both implosions also. Verducci was funny because people were too close to the building (I was in the parking structure on the 2nd level). As soon as the building hit the ground, I grabbed my camera and took off running, then 3-5 seconds later, everyone else started taking off to because of the dust. Great times!
i was at both implosions also i watched the geneva towers one at the giants game they played a replay of it on the jumbo tron and i was at that game and the sfsu building i saw it from a far i was over near stonestown fire house it was koo especially how it dropped half way then curled into itself good times
the end of a bad era for that part of town....probably the only day when white people could actually walk the street in that part of SF and not worry about getting stabbed and robbed
they decresing the black population

when are they gonna blow up the sunnydale projects? I hate the fact my house is worth 700k and I still have to worry about getting robbed
sendyoshit 4 years ago
California housing prices are uber inflated. Your 700k house would look and feel the same as a 150k house in the midwest.
