Yes, we do know that the Book of Mormon is the record of the ancient inhabitants of the Americas. According to Moroni it was written in Reformed Egyptian. We can assume it was written in a form of glyphs.
I saw your Atlantis statement on a "Searching for Atlantis" program on History Channel. That is all I have heard about it, although I am pretty sure there is no other evidence to support the statement.
