I think another thing black people can do is to teach your children how to watch television and movies critically. Teach them to discern when their racial character and pride is being attacked.

it is a padding word. I learned about it in speech class. We had exercises to remove padding words from our vocabulary. He is unaware that he does it. probably learned from his family. Thats how many learn it. he would have to go thru some exercises to stop it. Also it helps him to think of what he is going to say next. Padding words. Many people have variations of them. This is general knowledge if you know your history, the real problem is the family. Family is damaged, everything else is damaged. Where is the African American ownership? Make your own movies, and they still find problems with it but at least it's their problem. I think another thing black people can do is to teach your children how to watch television and movies critically. Teach them to discern when their racial character and pride is being attacked.
I have taught my children to spiritually discern when Christ is being attacked in the media and because of that I feel that I have done my job as a mother to strengthen their faith and allow them to lead a life of wholesomeness and kindness toward all mankind.

THERE IS OBVIOUSLY SOMETHING TO THIS... IMAGES ARE POWERFUL and ROLES ARE POWERFUL. WHAT'S INTERESTING IS THE SELECTION OF ROLES THAT "SELL" FOR A PARTICULAR CLASS or GROUP IN SOCIETY. YOU'VE GOT TO ASK YOURSELF WHY? WHY DO CERTAIN IMAGES SELL WHY OTHERS DONT? WHY ARE CERTAIN IMAGES PROMOTED WHILE OTHERS ARE NOT? WHO MAKES THE DECISIONS AND WHY? WE KNOW THAT "ACTION & ADVENTURE" MOVIES SELL. BUT DO WE EVER ASK OURSELVES WHY? WHY DO WE LIKE TO SEE "WHITE MEN" IN THAT POWER ROLE?

Check out the movie "the beast". This version is about 5 college kids - 3 males (1 black) and 2 females who go on an island for the weekend and are attacked by "dogs". All of the dogs, except 1 are black. More interesting the black guy and the white girl he kisses in the movie, die. Check out the movie and see for yourself.

If it is comfortable for whites to see white men in a power role, you must ask yourself why is it equally as comfortable for whites to see blacks in self deprecating roles? Because that supports a certain belief that completely underscores one people as "Superior" and another as "Inferior." Once we had integrity and many of us would never accept self-deprecating roles. Now you can buy us with 2 cents. We'll take ANY ROLE for the sake of money and fame and damn the esteem of the black viewer
