thats copied from the seymour duncan website, your pickup is blatantly set to louder mode, and all it will take is a simple adjustment and youll be playing clean, im really surprised you didnt google it as that is far easier than putting a video on youtube...
Blackouts Metal have a unique dual pin configuration on the underside of the pickup for two modes of output: loud and louder. you have a choice in output. With the jumper removed, you have a high output bridge humbucker that’s still compatible with a neck pickup or the clean channel on your amp. However, with the jumper in place, you unleash all the raw power, incredible output, and untamed aggression. The pins can also be wired to a mini-switch or push/pull, for an on board boost
I feel like it's wrong for people to criticize this man for not knowing technical issues when it comes to guitars. Keep in mind we don't know his experience level. Another thing is this, even most guitar players don't know anything about hardware so to be judgmental of him is ridiculous.
fucking bumbass, its to close to the bridge, those pickups will get fucked up by the trem, get lower gain pickups, the metal on your guitar is fucking it up like hell
Dude, blackouts have an internal pre-amp, they always distort. You need to install a third non-active pickup, a single coil would work well, or switch the neck pickup out for a passive humbucker.
@doooooooooom8123 You dont want to mix active and passive pickups it creates a huge tone suck because resisters need to be placed in the signal path. You have to do that because active pickups have different POTS than passive pickups.
@doooooooooom8123 You ever thought about that amp is controlling if theres distortion or clean? Has nothing to do with the pickup. When it comes to the pickup its about if it sounds good or not, and thats where many peoples opinion comes in.
Dude straight up, heres what you need to do, the wiring is fucked so get the boost knob changed bck to a simple tone or volume knob which ever, have the humbucker wired correctly, no need to buy a new one blackouts are awesome, also your tremlo system seems high, lower it a bit.
Im gonna go and actually try to help rather than call you an idiot. I know that you meant distortion on the clean channel as in "the wiring is probably fucked, or the components are cheap or w.e": Get a new boost, cuz sincerely, that pickup is great.
i dont understand certain things....if u dont want so much boost...why did you buy that guitar, u just can put into it one pickup and you choosed the most brutal one..buy another guitar, with 2 pickups and you can use the mg 81 and the mg 85, both of them are for rock, dimarzzio x2n really nice sound...seymour duncan its an amazing pickup, but it doesnt go with you, it wasnt a really smart choice, i hope you get want you want, good luck
You need to take it to an experienced guitar tech. It sound to me like he wired the boost wrong, and it is always sending a boosted signal regardless of on and off. by you saying the guy who screwed your guitar, I'm guessing he wasn't a pro, and if he was, GO BACK TO THE STORE AND DEMAND IT BE FIXED. There are very little pickups on the market that are dirty even on a clean channel, and blackouts are not one of them!
That pickup doesn't give you cleans. It's based on the old SD Livewire Metals, which constantly od. So even without boost, you will never get cleans with that pup.
Honestly, I don't think you really needed a +25 gain boost, with the Seymour duncan blackouts. the Blackouts will do the job, substantially. Plus, if you're getting feedback, run a ISP decimator through your chain in front of the amp, and set it in the last chain. If you're getting amp noise(Different than feedback, and this makes either the static or the "FFFFFFFFF" noise) than run either a Boss NS-2 or a ISP G-string through the effects loop in the back of your amp, if you have one.
You are a moron. WHY would you put that pickup in the bridge position of your guitar and expect to get a clean sound? That's like complaining that you want to get a high gain sound out of a Twin Reverb and calling the guy you bought it from an idiot.
just get a dimarzio evolution and be done with it... or a steve morse bridge... great clean tones and hella distorted ones... get a pedal for boost... active pickups suck anyways...
even the pickups alone can distort your clean channel .. They are high output pickups, if you add 25db of boost you are obviously going to screw your clean tone
@NeckcrossProductions less volume you mean? active pickups gain structures are constant, its the kind of pickup that turns the gain knob on your amp into a second volume knob.
It was hard for me to chose between seymourduncan and emg.. Finally I bought emg 81 85 cuz it is classic.. but after few weeks I replaced it to 85 85 and this was awesome for me. I play death metal. The point is how good player you are and how good you can adjust your amp.
WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU BUY SEYMOUR DUNCAN BLACKOUTS AND NOT EXPECT A CONSTANT LEVEL OF DISTORTION. DID YOUR RETARDED ORANGUTAN PROSTITUTE OF A MOTHER DROP YOU ON YOUR HEAD? IS YOUR DADDY ALSO YOUR UNCLE? DID YOU AND YOUR BUDDIES DO AMETUER BRAIN SURGERY ON EACH OTHER? YOU ARE A MORON!
@limeyoube I was simply making sure you would see my comment. Why didn't you do any research? Those pickups are supposed to give you a constant level of distortion.
@limeyoube He has a point though. You shouldn't buy a Blackouts "METAL" pickup and expect to get a nice clean tone. The name of the pickup says itself what the pickup is meant for. METAL. Really, what you should do, is get a guitar that has a neck pickup and install a regular Blackout pickup set, and the neck position would be a good clean tone. Also have heard EMG 60's are good neck pickups for cleans too, but just so you know, a metal pickup in the bridge, will NOT deliver a good clean tone.
@doooooooooom8123 Wow.. way to waste everyone's time showing how "special" you are. Ya know, some metal players DO play clean channel (like a large percentage).. go crap on someone else's page and let us learn from this guy. jeez.. waterhead.

Really?, all capital letters? WOW, you are ignorant, and YOU are the one who is stupid, not him. People like you who don't know a damn thing about guitar equipment should just keep your mouth shut
try a seymour duncan sh6b. its not so agressive. if your going to use a preamp booster you dont need such a hot pickup. the sh6b is a passive but still has a punch. then you would use the preamp booster for an extra punch on your leads or parts where you want to stand out.
any thing u like put on it dnt listen to anybodys opinions i have emgs but thats cause i like the sound i get from it heres a refrence like a girl u need to find the right one for you right well same with guitar find yourtone and its an easy fix to so dnt swap it
The Blackout Metal has the option of switching between output levels. Check out seymour duncan's website to see how. You get leads going from the back of the pickup and it goes from it's lower output to full output. So you must have had them fixed-wired to full output and then boosted that so no wonder it wouldn't go clean.
any review or demo shouldve pointed out that the metals dont produce clean their way to hot just get a standard ahb1 blackout and leave the boost in there for leads
for a start it looks like ur playing an Alexi laiho guitar so it quite obviously wasn't meant for playing clean if thats the case also ive got a jackson with a set of black outs on it and the clean sound on it is pretty sweet sounding tbh
lastly try the seymour duncan live wires 9 again i have a guitar with them on it and they give quite a nice clean tone
Take off the fucking boost you allready have a killer guitar with a killer pickup you dont kneed any more shit in your guitar move on to your amp and fx now and see what you can improve there.
That's basically what you get for adding more power to an already too powerful active pickup. I'd suggest the same as the guys below and take it back to whoever installed it, it should be reversable as long as the boost hasn't damaged the preamp in the pickup, good luck dude.
an idea would be to simply wire it with a tone knob and rid the boost...i mean a boost isnt really needed if your amp has a good amount of gain anyhow...
how about you take the fuckin switch out? put in a switch for a piezo (and install the piezo saddles on the trem, obviously) and then youcan keep your pickup because those are fuckin expensive pickups
@allfu93 how can you play with a low volume?! that doesnt help man.... if you cant turn your amp up people can't hear it.... im gonna have it rewired see if that works! thanks for trying though!
@Bcrichanditsbitch haha u dont seem to have a high gain amp i have a high gain so high if i dont lower the volume on my guitar i get a crapload of feedback and it sounds like shit it wouldnt sound clear im just sayin if u want to keep the boost and not have a killswitch
@Archermahly Yeah I agree. I use the blackout in both my 6 and 7 string guitars, and it kicks ass. It distorts my clean channel a little, but that blame should be equally dispersed upon the Speakers, the EQ, and the Pickup. My solution (because I love the blackout tone, both distorted and clean): roll back on the volume of the guitar to about 3/4 and adjust or EQ, or if you can afford it, buy a better speaker/amp.
What I did when I first got my Ibanez RG with a Blackout in it is attenuate the volume coming from the pickup. Put little attenuators at the jack so it limits the volume coming from your guitar. I recently had that taken away to get the full blistering sound of the blackout, but the difference being I now have a much better Randall amp. Either do that or get a better amp that can handle that pick up.
I would say can the boost man. you already have a high gain pick up so removcing it wouldnt be the best....if thats what you want. the boost so be removed so you can still have the blackouts
U need 25k pot. that switch is gay. Nobody uses those. The blackouts r the best sounding and playing pickups around- whoever did that job is brainless. If u live in Houston I can fix for $25
What amp are you using? your problem sounds like your amp cant handle it...a pickup is a pickup, all it does is convert your string vibrations into an electrical audio feed, its the amp that turns this into an output. If you are using a crap amp then it will sound awful.
What amp are you using? your problem sounds like your amp cant handle it...a pickup is a pickup, all it does is convert your string vibrations into an electrical audio feed, its the amp that turns this into an output. If you are using a crap amp then it will sound awful.
If yoy want a hot pickup that sounds great for metal and great on cleans you need a magic pickup, because the onely way you can get a good clean sound without sacrifising the metal sound is a neck pickup (the best clean sound) or mabye get a hot pickup that can split ;D
you put in the oickups in wrong.. thiis happend to me once while installing my DiMarzio.. When this happend on my guitar it was becasue I put one of the cables in wrong at the bottom pf the pickups.. You basiclly reversed the cables
but since you want to play stuff that don't need really high output .. well i must say "you're in trouble m8" ..... these pickups are monsters... they give they highest output to play hard things.... with much gain and distortion... cleans in ALL ACTIVE pickups are NEVER good... just try do the things i told you.... and if you still don't like 'em just change 'em... good luck
first of all... sorry for my bad english :P i have an ESP m III deluxe Custom shop... i had the same problem when i added them... since they have an output "chip" on their own... a) don't give much output by your pedal effects.. (let the amp do the job) and the 2nd thing ... force pickup at the lowest height you can add... these 2 thing will help a lot :) check out a lil your settings with EQ's too... Blackouts have really high ammounts of BASS MIDS and trembles on their own... (continued)
you guys make me laugh, you think it's the pickup.
Can you all not read? He has a 25db boost switch wired to the pickup.
It's obvious he wired the boost switch wrong. Come on guys, have you ever heard of an EMG afterburner? same thing here guys. Grow a brain cell fella's.
I think getting a diffrent set of pickups becaouse the boost has no effect on the pickups becaouse Blackouts are used for really hard metal players with low tuning use those pickups. If you use EMGs they make any guitar with any chanle sound or effects sound alot better
the boost isnt the problem if it does it when the boost switch is off its just the pick up its self has an extreme amount of gain try an emg hz passive thats what i have its pretty clean and gets good gain but the pick up you have i really want lol its awesome i would take it with the boost just like that.
sounds like the dude did fuck up your guitar.. uhh get rid of the gain switch and put in the alexi emg in there. you won't regret it. it should fit your hardware and electronics perfectly.
take the plate off the back, and snip the boost wire, maybe another wire...may have to sauter it...switch on front will be worthless but no one knows that...
talkin about your other video. if you wanted the kill could be changed to rythym/trble switch alto youl need to get a neck pickup installed aswell, pricey
The boost is for hi gain use, just turn it off when you want to play on your clean channel. I guess no clean channel on any amp can receive that amount of boost and stay clean. If you still have distortion on your clean channel even with the boost switch off, roll your volume off a bit, or lower the pickup position from the strings
hey dude I have tha same problem, I also buy the AHB - 1B and put on in the neck, for my clean sound, the only way is play soft the strings (in the metal)
they guy dident fuck up shit dumbass why the fuck are you gonna put in blackouts to play clean tones, your fucking stupis its not made for that, thats why alexis esp guitar dont sounf that good on clean channel, duh the same with the rr24 jackson its not for clean tones
@redghost105 my live wire duncans have no true clean in them, according to seymour duncan website. The blackouts, especially with 25 db boost, probably are worse. It might be that you are hearing the best clean already with the blackouts, but I'm not sure. I am considering blackouts for my soloist myself, but maybe not with the 25 db boost, because, like you, i like cleans also. I have single coil live wires in the middle and neck pickups, hum in the bridge on my Jackson.
Dude, youre being a dumbass. When you buy active pick-ups (like the blackouts) you can't get a clean tone whatsoever. Active pickups give one sound and one sound only. you should research before you get a pick-up installed in your guitar. You see your title? Blackout METAL ... its for metal dude, not for clean tones.
ok well emgs are higher trebel and like they arent really made for that clean channel stuff by much but you can make it sound good but seymore duncan blackouts are more creamy on the clean channel and the problem is is that you have that boost switch on it so if you wanna get rid of that nasty over distorted sound then take it out alexi laiho had a boost switch added to his since he dosent really crank the distortion that high on his amp so yea
Dude if you have a Seymour Duncan Blackout Metal, don't put it on the freaking clean channel! Or get a SD Livewire Classic for the neck position and play clean on the neck pickup. They aren't to be played clean!
@Rensstein666 I have live wire classic hum sin sin in my jackson soloist, and am considering a blackout hum in the bridge, but keeping some sort of actives in the single coil mid and neck positions, because I would like some cleans to go along with a better blackout bridge metal sound for metal, Slayer, and extreme death metal. Do you think I should hang on to the live wire classics or try mustaine live wires, or try a blackout in the neck and mid position for some sing coil sound ?
@Rensstein666 Also can I coil split the livewire, or blackout bridge pickup for a single coil active sound? Does the blackout have a more distorted or cleaner sound than my live wire classic bridge does? Thanks
@Rensstein666 Also can I coil split the livewire, or blackout bridge pickup for a single coil active sound? Does the blackout have a more distorted or cleaner sound than my live wire classic bridge does? Thanks
I l know, I was getting sick from it and took it out and put back in my SD SH-13.
I still have a double battery pack on the back of the guitar but that will come in handy when I rig my Fernandes Sustainer to 18v. The SD SH-13 is SUCH an amazing pup.The harmonics and the rich tone is amazing. I think its equvilant to the DiMarzio Evolution.
if i had that guitar with the boost , to hell with clean time to SHRED !!!!

find this guy.. and kick him in the balls.. thats what you should do
KILL3RKI3R4N 1 year ago 8
That's basically what you get for adding more power to an already too powerful active pickup. I'd suggest the same as the guys below and take it back to whoever installed it, it should be reversable as long as the boost hasn't damaged the preamp in the pickup, good luck dude.
jordanmc 1 year ago
take it back to the guy who did it

Yeah dude, get a new guitar. or change the boost.

an idea would be to simply wire it with a tone knob and rid the boost...i mean a boost isnt really needed if your amp has a good amount of gain anyhow...
bcrichjageraxe 1 year ago
how about you take the fuckin switch out? put in a switch for a piezo (and install the piezo saddles on the trem, obviously) and then youcan keep your pickup because those are fuckin expensive pickups

k 2 problems
1- 25db boost is way to much to put in a guitr so kinda pointless
2- duncan blackouts already come in with a built in preamp so that 25db boost is just pointless in the first place
all u gota do is get rid of that boost and ur good

you need probably should use a EMG 81 it is light enough for metal attack, & not so distorted. Then again what ARE YOU GOING FOR?

Just use a EMG 81TW and turn the boost nob into a after burner and the mini toggle into a coil tap, problem solved!

@allfu93 how can you play with a low volume?! that doesnt help man.... if you cant turn your amp up people can't hear it.... im gonna have it rewired see if that works! thanks for trying though!
Bcrichanditsbitch 1 year ago
@Bcrichanditsbitch haha u dont seem to have a high gain amp i have a high gain so high if i dont lower the volume on my guitar i get a crapload of feedback and it sounds like shit it wouldnt sound clear im just sayin if u want to keep the boost and not have a killswitch
allfu93 1 year ago
Loose the boost, and roll back the volume on the guitar.
Archermahly 1 year ago
@Archermahly Yeah I agree. I use the blackout in both my 6 and 7 string guitars, and it kicks ass. It distorts my clean channel a little, but that blame should be equally dispersed upon the Speakers, the EQ, and the Pickup. My solution (because I love the blackout tone, both distorted and clean): roll back on the volume of the guitar to about 3/4 and adjust or EQ, or if you can afford it, buy a better speaker/amp.
000sicair 1 year ago
take the boost switch off,,the blackouts am sich are reeeaaally good and if that doesn't work,,use a noise suppressor

If the blackout makes your clean channel distorted, then you need an active balance system for it, a sustainer system and take the boost switch off.
SevrenSavage 1 year ago
What I did when I first got my Ibanez RG with a Blackout in it is attenuate the volume coming from the pickup. Put little attenuators at the jack so it limits the volume coming from your guitar. I recently had that taken away to get the full blistering sound of the blackout, but the difference being I now have a much better Randall amp. Either do that or get a better amp that can handle that pick up.
kimmo14 1 year ago
I would say can the boost man. you already have a high gain pick up so removcing it wouldnt be the best....if thats what you want. the boost so be removed so you can still have the blackouts

What amp are you using? your problem sounds like your amp cant handle it...a pickup is a pickup, all it does is convert your string vibrations into an electrical audio feed, its the amp that turns this into an output. If you are using a crap amp then it will sound awful.

punk4life1029 1 year ago
If yoy want a hot pickup that sounds great for metal and great on cleans you need a magic pickup, because the onely way you can get a good clean sound without sacrifising the metal sound is a neck pickup (the best clean sound) or mabye get a hot pickup that can split ;D
MetallicaAnders 1 year ago
you put in the oickups in wrong.. thiis happend to me once while installing my DiMarzio.. When this happend on my guitar it was becasue I put one of the cables in wrong at the bottom pf the pickups.. You basiclly reversed the cables
CRAZEX2 1 year ago
but since you want to play stuff that don't need really high output .. well i must say "you're in trouble m8" ..... these pickups are monsters... they give they highest output to play hard things.... with much gain and distortion... cleans in ALL ACTIVE pickups are NEVER good... just try do the things i told you.... and if you still don't like 'em just change 'em... good luck
mohokios 1 year ago
first of all... sorry for my bad english :P i have an ESP m III deluxe Custom shop... i had the same problem when i added them... since they have an output "chip" on their own... a) don't give much output by your pedal effects..

ChromiumSilver 1 year ago 2
I think getting a diffrent set of pickups becaouse the boost has no effect on the pickups becaouse Blackouts are used for really hard metal players with low tuning use those pickups. If you use EMGs they make any guitar with any chanle sound or effects sound alot better
metalicafanatic 1 year ago
go for the EMG 81 and 85 bro

As a pickup, DiMarzio Super Distortion. You can never go wrong with that.
StreakingInJanuary 1 year ago
Alot of people had problems with their Blackout AHB-1, so Seymour Duncan made a new model called Blackout AHB-2, with better output and less problems.
At the same time, EMG made a new series called the EMG X's and they also have more output and less problems.
So i think you should get a pair of EMG X's or something. Good luck, i guess.
GameKid98 1 year ago
the boost isnt the problem if it does it when the boost switch is off its just the pick up its self has an extreme amount of gain try an emg hz passive thats what i have its pretty clean and gets good gain but the pick up you have i really want lol its awesome i would take it with the boost just like that.
MYTHFGK 1 year ago
sounds like the dude did fuck up your guitar.. uhh get rid of the gain switch and put in the alexi emg in there. you won't regret it. it should fit your hardware and electronics perfectly.

high gain pickups in general will prevent you from getting any cllean tones. it alwyas grits it up
MetalXGod666 1 year ago
talkin about your other video. if you wanted the kill could be changed to rythym/trble switch alto youl need to get a neck pickup installed aswell, pricey
or a split switch

dude...the blackouts are fine, but 25db
what the fuck?
try like 4db or 10 if you need a lot
but 25 will be pushing it too far
tomfarrall 1 year ago
The boost is for hi gain use, just turn it off when you want to play on your clean channel. I guess no clean channel on any amp can receive that amount of boost and stay clean. If you still have distortion on your clean channel even with the boost switch off, roll your volume off a bit, or lower the pickup position from the strings
LTDusersince99 1 year ago
Ummmm why the hell would you buy Blackout Metals if you intended on playing on the clean channel more than occasionally..?

they guy dident fuck up shit dumbass why the fuck are you gonna put in blackouts to play clean tones, your fucking stupis its not made for that, thats why alexis esp guitar dont sounf that good on clean channel, duh the same with the rr24 jackson its not for clean tones
pittbullbill 1 year ago
You could take the switch out out and install a killswitch.
JohnathenDavis 1 year ago
its common sense dude
dont use extremly hot pickups for clean sounds...there made for metal...not acoustic
redghost105 1 year ago
@redghost105 my live wire duncans have no true clean in them, according to seymour duncan website. The blackouts, especially with 25 db boost, probably are worse. It might be that you are hearing the best clean already with the blackouts, but I'm not sure. I am considering blackouts for my soloist myself, but maybe not with the 25 db boost, because, like you, i like cleans also. I have single coil live wires in the middle and neck pickups, hum in the bridge on my Jackson.

moneymoney220666 1 year ago
Dude, youre being a dumbass. When you buy active pick-ups (like the blackouts) you can't get a clean tone whatsoever. Active pickups give one sound and one sound only. you should research before you get a pick-up installed in your guitar. You see your title? Blackout METAL ... its for metal dude, not for clean tones.
metalisgreaterthanu 1 year ago
@metalisgreaterthanu
i think you are the one who should research actives are the most diverse pickups you can buy they can adjust to just about any sound you want....

ok well emgs are higher trebel and like they arent really made for that clean channel stuff by much but you can make it sound good but seymore duncan blackouts are more creamy on the clean channel and the problem is is that you have that boost switch on it so if you wanna get rid of that nasty over distorted sound then take it out alexi laiho had a boost switch added to his since he dosent really crank the distortion that high on his amp so yea
queensofthestonage4 1 year ago

arrrival 1 year ago
Dude if you have a Seymour Duncan Blackout Metal, don't put it on the freaking clean channel! Or get a SD Livewire Classic for the neck position and play clean on the neck pickup. They aren't to be played clean!
Rensstein666 1 year ago
@Rensstein666 I have live wire classic hum sin sin in my jackson soloist, and am considering a blackout hum in the bridge, but keeping some sort of actives in the single coil mid and neck positions, because I would like some cleans to go along with a better blackout bridge metal sound for metal, Slayer, and extreme death metal. Do you think I should hang on to the live wire classics or try mustaine live wires, or try a blackout in the neck and mid position for some sing coil sound ?
metalfiend124 1 year ago
