There is a lot of plot to this story.

The hardhat or "Wilson" represents faith and willpower. The engineer represents the very weak mind of all humans. When "Wilson" begins to float away it shows that all humans faith and willpower slowly slips away from them.

Or it is suppose to be a sketch of the movie Cast Away and the plot to THAT is something I can't explain.
