What is it with music artists?? They are either alcoholics or drug addicts! So many die at a young age from these problems.This must be a very stressful business.
If you are fan of the original Platters as I am Please don't be offended by what I wrote. Tony did not even know that they were selling his albums on TV (in the early 70's) and he was entitled to Royalties. I also had the pleasure of having a drink with Tony on occasion.
From what I have learned, Tony Williams had a severe drinking problem (this I know for a fact). He and his wife split (she is the female vocalist in the group). I saw a huge portrait of her in his apartment in Manhattan. Some of the males in the group (not sure if all) were arrested for white slavery (pimps). The Platters were at a Rock & Roll show in a Brooklyn and they had to put security on Tony so he would not sneak out for a drink. With all his faults as we all have he was still the best.
@sipops003 Are you sure they were arrested for white slavery (pimps)? I read they were arrested for sex with minors (3 were white) and found not guilty.
Tony, David, Paul, and Herb were arrested in Cincinnati on a morals charge involving four girls in their hotel room (three of them white). While the case was built on racial divides and they (and the girls) were cleared of all charges in late December, it certainly didn't do their careers any good. Sorry for the misinformation but I was led to believe it was for White slavery all these years.

I don't think Lynch ever replaced Tony, he was another member of the group. I don't recall any of the other replacements for Tony besides Turner. I doubt anyone could have replaced him effectively.
I though Lynch a new guy ! Yes no one can replace Tony Williams effectively,the Platters was here in HK in 1997 & they had a video,Kristy Brooks was singing lead at the time, not bad this guy, dont know if you knew him ! other members were Nathaneal woodson,Curtis michael & Wendell noble, are any of them the originals..

There have been a lot of groups calling themselves the Platters over the years. Most of them have been bogus, but a few have had original members. I think there is only one surviving member of the original group now.
