  • GEORGE KELLY MOST CERTAINALLY DID NOT ADMIT TO ANYTHING ---AND DEVLIN AND BURNS WERE IN MANCHESTER AT THE TIME OF THE MURDER,BERT BALMER WAS IN CHARGE OF BOTH INVESTIGATIONS----MMMMMM

  • Glad we abolished this . Harry allen the last english hangman. In his notes after a hanging he wrote " could have done with a longer drop " !!!!!!!

  • 'how possible is it to totally suppress a sense of involvement and responsibility from something as grim and drastic as ending someone's life'

It isn't possible. If I was a hangman I don't think I'd last more than a week in said job, I'd either resign or end up committing suicide.

  • AS FOR BENTLY,AGAIN,GUILTY UNDER UK LAW AS IT STOOD AT THE TIME,BOTH WERE ARRESTED WHILE COMMITING THE SAME CRIME,ERGO,BENTLY WAS GUILTY IN LAW,SIMILAR TO THE CASE OF GOWER/REDEL,GOWER WAS FREE AND RUNNING,REDEL SHOT A MAN,BOTH WERE HANGED AT WINCHESTER A FEW YEARS BEFORE BENTLY,CAPITAL PUNISHMENT SHOULD NOT DIFFER BECAUSE A CHILD WAS MURDERED,A LIFE IS A LIFE,NONE MORE VALUABLE THAN ANY OTHER,MURDER IS MURDER IS MURDER NO MATTER THE VICTIMS AGE OR SOCIAL STANDING

  • @DOUG120669 Enough of the caps.

  • RE RUTH ELLIS,SHE WAS NOT INNOCENT,SHE TOOK A GUN AND IN AN ACT OF PRE MEDITATION,MURDERED HER BOYFRIEND,DNA TAKEN FROM THE GRAVE OF JAMES HANRATTY SUGGESTS HE WASNT INNOCENT EITHER,ONLY 3 EXECUTED CRIMINALS HAVE EVER BEEN GIVEN A POSTHUMOUS PARDON FROM THOUSANDS EXECUTED,SO MEURIG,GIMME SOME MORE "INNOCENT VICTIMS" OF THE HANGMAN,BTW GEORGE KELLY ADMITTED THE SHOOTINGS BUT CLAIMED SELF DEFENCE,A COMMON ARGUMENT TO AVOID THE GALLOWS,SO AGAIN,NOT ENTIRELY INNOCENT,WAS HE?

  • I agree, the police put a lot of innocent people on the gallows usually just to clear the case quickly and/or to make themselves look good------they did'nt care a damn whether the person on the trapdoor was guilty or not----(Devlin and Burns,George Kelly, both Liverpool early1950s,Timothy Evans,Derek Bentley,Ruth Ellis ,James Hanratty----BUT---There were some who should most definately have been executed .ie child murderers, terrorists etc----people like these forefeited their right to live

  • So did the people who were murdered

  • If any one is against capital punishment please think about the family of Millie Dowler, then re think

  • @meurig26846 and anyone whos pro capital punishment please think about the family of Derek Bentley or the case of Timothy Evans, obviously murder is wrong in every sense but two wrongs dont make a right, condemed men and women have innocent families too.

  • Yeh, I bet . What a job.

  • Timothy spall plays a great part as mr. Pierrpoint.

  • Dorothea Waddingham was not hung by Albert Pierrepiont as shown here. This hanging was by his Uncle Thomas, Albert was the assistant. It was done at Winson Green prison, not Holloway.

How do they manage these mistakes?

  • @athame57 Dramatic effect I suppose.....or bad research!

  • cut the crap... people die... doesn't matter by the means...

  • Capital Punishment must never return to Britain. Whatever it takes.

  • @MatthewBuick Correct especially with most police officers being able to lie whenever they feel like and get away with it. As well as being thugs and morans (Personal experience)

  • @MatthewBuick When approx 600 people get mudered in the next 12 months would you mind telling that to the victims relatives. Especially the parents of raped and murdered children.

  • Well...That sucks.

  • aka Dr Syn, the tears an whimpering are for themselves an not their victims, An good riddance to rubbish. the worlds a better place without em...

  • Glad those days are gone!

  • A reminder of the way things should be.

  • I wish Hanging was back It would save the UK Tax payer billions of pounds . Where there is NO doubt to a felon's crime there should be a mandatory death penalty .

How many countless millions has it cost we UK tax payers to keep Peter Sutcliffe all these years ???? Much less than a length of 3/4 inch Italian hemp . we are all entitled to our opinions so here is mine .

  • @Gillyyorkie In USA executions cost a lot of money. Death penalty does not spare any tax money. Besides it does not bring crime out. In USA there is murder every hour.

  • @1Regnvejr

It costs a lot of money because convincted people on Death Row are given a gazillion appeals on technical points to stay the execution. The French and English had it right: One appeal given, then clemency of the President of the Republic (in France) or the Home Secretary (in Britain), otherwise executed within months.

  • Nobody has the rights to take another persons life. I don't care if it was legal at that time. It's still murder.

  • @nealthedude dont fucking watch it then i respect ur opinyen and all that crap but shut up

  • @DuckSmuggler1 LOL you can't even spell and your manners are appalling.

  • Wonder if Ul still say that if a loved one of yours was murdered.. Ul still happily pay your taxes to keep the murdering scum feed and watered yeah?! Course u would dude!

  • @28ellehcim I don't know. I've not been in that situation. Of course we musn't forget the victims of crimes but killing the perpetrator isn't going to bring the other person back.

  • @nealthedude

That's so simplistic. Tell that to murderers, their victims had the right to their life snuffed out of them as well. Those are the innocent ones. When you take the life out of someone, do not expect yours to be respected. Hangmen did the job no one would have done otherwise, they are mandated by the state and society to get rid of irrecuperable criminals for the protection of society. It was straining and hard on the conscience, so many took to drink and became alcoholic wrecks.

  • His first execution was in Mountjoy Prison in Dublin - is this supposed to be his first?

  • The film is not completely accurate. They have taken a bit of poetic licence.

  • @ukchristian28 Yeah, the "was effort" was non-existent until 1939.

  • @ukchristian28 Yeah, the "war effort" was non-existent until 1939.

  • @bistrosidecar He was assistant to his uncle in his first one, this is his first in England and he did not take over the hanging the other man just needed a nudge Albert was still number 2 in this one.

  • @stevie301271 Ah, I see. Thanks for the info!

  • So did the executioners perform their prep duties in the gallows room, directly adjacent to the condemned prisoner's cell, while he was there to hear it all? That seems kinda fucked up to me.

  • All the prep would have been done whilst the prisoner was out of his cell and in the exercise yard. He would not have had any idea that gallows were only next door.

  • The prisoner was always removed from the Condemned Cell (exercise, meeting relatives) when the executioners were working next door. The Prison Service went to huge lengths to keep the condemned from knowing what was being done. Some prisons even put mats out on the landing so that the prisoner wouldn't hear the executioners approaching on the morning.

  • No they were taken to the exercise yard while that was been done

  • yes they could have abolished death before 1985 coz then Gary Holton would still be around! LOVE YA GARY R.I.P!

  • Because no one should ever die. We should all live forever! ABOLISH DEATH!!! Make it illegal to DIE!! Punishable BY DEATH!!!
