  • Typical commie hate game bullshit.

  • CRAP, how the hell did I forget about Hanging with Mr Cooper, that was my fav show!

  • When was Urkel's last broadcast on ABC?

  • @UrkManRocks Family Matters aired its last new episode on ABC on May 9, 1997, with the final rerun on ABC being aired on September 19, 1997, the very night that Family Matters premiered on CBS.

  • @privateproperty93

George, I could understand. But Urkel & Step by Step?

Urkel made TGIF a household name in the 90s!

  • @UrkManRocks

When TGIF made a return in 2003, The George Lopez show was one of the shows that was a part of the block. In an interview, Lopez said, "I'm going to pick up where Steve Urkel left off."

  • this lineup was pretty weak

  • Hangin with MR Cooper!!!!

  • Man oh man! Those were the heaven days!

  • Dinosaurs and Clueless were also good!

  • 1993-97 was TGIF's Peak in the ratings.

  • @UrkManRocks

That was TGIF's best years. When Family Matters and Step by Step left for CBS in the Fall of 1997, that was when TGIF jumped the shark.

  • Good thing Boy Meets World stepped in and took the reigns on that one.

  • @happydragonpics; i think they moved boy meets world over from either tuesday or wednesday night to tgif at some point in the middle of the 1992-93 season..either way it was a great move by abc.....though i'll admit i was more of a shawn hunter fan than a corey matthews fan....

  • @domirules28 Really? I don't remember that. I could've sworn it became the TGIF staple through the rest of the 90s, and it was that last hold-out until it was cancelled, then TGIF really went under. I was a big fan of Eric. He's like Homer Simpson where with each season he just got dumber. Just got done re-living the whole series on DVD. Some cheesy 90s moments, sure. But it still holds up pretty well, unless that's just my nostalgia goggles talking.

  • @happydragonpics: eric provided some great comic relief moments....as for the series...boy meets world did remain on tgif for the rest of its run...i have foggy memories of bmw initialy being in the wednesday night lineup with the wonder years (which was in its final season at that point)....here's a bit of tv trivia: both the wonder years and boy meets world aired their series finales on may 5....wonder years on may 5 1993 and boy meets world on may 5 2000....

  • @domirules28 Hmmm...interesting. The only TGIF show I can really remember joining The Wonder Years on Wednesdays was Dinosaurs, but that was still a year or two prior to BMW. And even Dinosaurs may not have originally started on Fridays, I also remember it being on Sundays, I think. But yeah, both Wonder Years and BMW had great series finales. It's hard to believe it's been over ten years since BMW ended, though.

  • @domirules28 Oh, and speaking of trivia, did you know that Will Friedle who played Eric was also the voice of Terry McGinnis on Batman Beyond?

  • @happydragonpics: never knew that, but i do remember will hosting the nickelodeon show don't just sit there....

  • @happydragonpics That one I didn't know but didn't surprise me since I've know he's been in the cartoon voicing business for a while. Check out Freddie from A Different World; she's done a lot of cartoon voicing. Ones that you may be surprised to know was that Jaleel White (Steve Urkel) did the voice of Sonic for the first two cartoon series and James Avery (Uncle Phil) did the voice of Shredder in TMNT the '87 series

  • @domirules28 I think Wonder Years ended on May 12, 1993. May 5, 1993 was the series finale of Quantum Leap.

  • @domirules28 BMW was always on TGIF. I was a baby then but I definitely remember the TGIF era of at least '92. I don't even need to fall back on my foggy memory. If you look it up, you'll find out that BMW was always on TGIF. Wonder Years is a show that I never ran into when I was young which makes sense since it was on Wednesdays. The shows I remember that are foggy are the ones from TGIF.

  • WTF!!!!! George Forman had a sitcom!

  • I take it that they couldn't license the actual version of "WHOOMP! (There it Is!)" by Tag Team.

  • George?? I know what the other three shows are but that one...

  • The self-titled George Foreman sitcom was previewed on TGIF that week, but one night later it moved into its intended Saturday slot following Where I Live. The latter was a disaster..WIL was pulled permanently in late November, and George relocated to two other nights and time slots before getting the axe itself in January 1994. This promo was for November 5, 1993 (I believe). ABC promos used the "Woop-there it is!" song for that sweeps period.

  • @VaultMasterDBT Oh ok. I'm pretty sure it was a failure, thanks for the info!

  • @jriley1992: me either...i remember tgif as full house, perfect strangers, mr belvedere, and just the ten of us....but that was a good 4 years before this, by '93 i was already going out on friday nights...

  • George only aired on TGIF for one week. At the time of this promo, the lineup regular formation was of Family Matters, Boy Meets World, Step By Step and Hangin' With Mr. Cooper. Also, although the Friday lineup had the family-friendly concept in year that you mentioned (1988-89), it was not yet called "TGIF". Thus, Mr. Belvedere (which moved to Saturdays in the fall of 1989) was never part of TGIF. ;)

  • @VaultMasterDBT: thanks for the info, interseting to know there was a show on 90s abc that was shorter lived than cop rock, monopoly, capitol critters, and baby talk....also wasn't boy meets world on a night earlier in the week during the 1992-93 season?? (its first)

  • I should probably suggest Google or Wikipedia to you (and I don't mean that in a snotty way at all!). Boy Meets World premiered in September 1993. The Thursday night comedies you're thinking of from the 1992-93 season are Room For Two and Delta.

  • Yeah, Google and Wikipedia findings WOULD be interesting for you. While Baby Talk and Cop Rock did last longer than George, with two seasons and three months, respectively, of runs for each, Capital Critters actually only aired 7 episodes before cancellation (I had to look that up), whereas George aired nine.
