Hyde Park.. I really miss it. I grew up in it throughout between 1987-1997 (HS). When i attended college before joining the service in late 1997, i stayed at the international house.
Though I returned between '05-'07; Midway, Westmont & Linkin Park.. I dropped by for a visit. Now i'm all the way out in Denver, CO. I'm one of the only Cubs fans here, lol. I really miss Chicago as a whole and had some great times in Hyde Park. Thanks for posting=]
i drive 9 hours a day on that campus, all ill say is watch out for the students, they dont watch were they are going...i scrape 3 or 4 off the bumper every day ahaa, but seriously, there pretty oblivious
Great idea! However since it's coming from someone that isn't from hyde park you can forgive him for his inaccuracies. There are at least 4 or 5 bus routes that serve the area, excluding university transit, and the metra train stations. I'm an american of african descent and has been in hyde park since '85.
If you are not near the I.C. (Now the Metra Electric), getting to loop is a chore. At least you have the outer drive, if you have a car. And if you don't have off street parking, parking in Hyde Park is difficult, None of this is new; it was true in the fifties and sixties. There is also an express bus (No. 1) from Drexel Square to the loop via the Drive, but that's only in the rush hour.
Hyde Park is one of the easiest neighborhoods that are not in a 3 mile radius of the Loop to get to the Loop. You have 5 crosstown buses to the green line/red line, 5 express buses to the loop directly from Hyde Park, the Metra, and one of the only south side neighborhoods where you can hail a taxi on the street. The most time it would take to get to the Loop from HP is 30 mins on the worst day.. It's not illegal to do some research before posting.
In the mid 80s 5 Black guys were murdered in Harold's Fried chicken in Hyde Park. The University hushed up the incident so that it barely made the paper. I had a terrible run in the the police who would go after students and get kick backs from the lawyers (Graylord Scandal). Glad I don't live there anymore.
