I was in a huge accedent head on collision druck driver hit me going 60 miles an hour I flew out my ford and landed in side another ford truck and I lived ford is the best in texas
The only thing "Ford Tough" about this truck is the way it gets pissed and throws a piece of the rear door panel out the window at the oncoming vehicle.
@Xaiano your wrong , Bigger car with steel body safer in street. front made out of steel and straight. So the harder the thing , but when crash into a harder thing it fail :P.But it destroy smaller car...
@HyperSTAND you clearly don't understand the physics of the situation - this is a test equivelant to crashing head on into a vehicle of comparable size at 40mph. It is also a good indicator of what would happen if the vehicle would hit an imovable object too.
It is a relative test and the important part is not how destroyed the car is, but how survivable the crash is - this is worse than the smart car because although the smart would look worse, you'd have a better chance of survival.
@worldskater36 as i said before you don't understand the physics of the situation - cars are tested against their own weight. a crash into a deformable (immovable) object is equivelant to crashing head-on at that same speed into a car of the exact same make and model which is travelling in the opposite direction with a 40% overlap.
This generation F-150 is just as dangerous as any POS chinese vehicle. It may be just as bad as the exploding Pinto case back in the day. However Ford has really gotten it together and is by far the best American (NON TAX FUNDED BAILOUT) car company today. Before you intertards go and bash Ford, go watch some relevant crash test videos from todays vehicles.
@korranda they do the test to make sure this doesnt happen to someone that owns this truck. aI have a ford and a drunk driver spun out once and hit me and the truck protected me from being killed ford has some of the strongest trucks in the world
Really people, look at the crash test. Look past the bullshit. Just because the damage was bad and plastic was flying around doesn't mean a thing. If anything, the truck absorbed alot of the blunt force of the impact. If you look at the dumbie, he doesn't get shook up really bad. I'd rather drive a truck that lessens the force of a impact that one that stops like a brick.their will be less injury, and in either case, any vehicle is a write off so that doesn't matter.
@nonamejoe56 Oh, yeah real safe. not to mention his legs are crushed, and he cant move because he is jammed in. You would be way more safe in one that stops like a brick than this pile of crap!
this is unreal really how offten ar you going to run in to a wall and change the front bumper to t custom boxed bumper/grill gard make the other car have the damage

@TotalTQ Ummm. When 95% of the population calls the USA America, Im pretty sure I dont need to sprecify that much. BTW, have fun dieing in a wreck in your ranger/F150
@MegaTundra10 I own a Ford. In fact it's a 2003 Supercrew. I have gone through 3 wrecks, and over 250,000 miles in it, and it still runs fine. By the way, I did repair it after the wrecks, but in all of them, I DROVE away. I have totaled two cars, and in both cases, I DROVE away from the accident. Fords are awesome trucks. Oh, and terroristic threats are a felony, FYI. You're welcome.
ya the f150 is the best truck out now, why get a 395 hp ram or 365 hp silverado when you could go pay more for 305 hp f150! that sounds great ill take one with the man step cuz my 20yr old back is terrible....oh and while your at it do you have any on the lot that arent made of tin and plastic...no, oh thats ok ill take one. i want to be sure that if my family and i get in a wreck i wont be stuck with medical bills. ford you are my hero
@kawairider23 yeah i cant tell either, especially since the F150 is the safest truck ever made, and its smaller engine makes more torque then the rams or chevy's, and gets better MPG...and it can tow more and have more weight in the bed, and its faster off the line when completely loaded, which is what a truck is made for, not speed when its empty...it is the best truck if your looking for a truck, and a tail gate step is a practical and useful idea, no need to be angry about a good idea
This is just unacceptable for a full size truck, I'M GLAD FORD HAS REDESIGNED THIS MANY TIMES SINCE THEN, AND IS CORRECTED. CURRENTLY THE F150 SCORES THE BEST BY THE IIHS FOR CRASH TESTING. AND IS ALSO THE BEST PICK-UP YOU CAN BUY.
none of em are really concerned with the best crash test.. they need to.. i thought that the trucks would be good.. that ford folded up like nothing...
I own an F150 of the 97-03 style. I watch this video every now and then to remind myself that I'm driving a coffin. It sends shivers down my spine and makes my heart race because I know that in the event of a head-on collision...I'm dead. How could ford make such a poor vehicle and sell it to the masses? I changed to a ford truck a few years ago after having transmission troubles with my GM truck. Can our nation ever make ANYTHING good? If you look at ford...obviously not. I HATE YOU FORD
@9002 Take a look at the new models, they have been redesigned many times since then. And the F150 is the best truck out at this time. 5star Frontal, and 5star side impact. Compared to GM's weak side structure, F150 puts it to shame.
@Zinizzle My next truck will be a 3rd generation Tundra...when they come out in 2013. I've had long term (12 month, for work) rentals of the new F150 and they are pretty pathetic, no offense. Also had a 2010 Ram diesel for 9 months and it was great...at least the engine, but the truck is cheap. And my family has GM's, not bad but "dainty." So with that said, I'll try out a tundra. All I know is I'll NEVER have another Ford product in my life. I've had so much trouble with mine it's.....sad.
@burnningleon sounds like YOU'RE the dumbass, look at other IIHS Crash tests. they're all at the same speed, and most dont fold like a soda can. get your facts right before you tell other people out, stupid.
@burnningleon Really look at the Tacoma or Tundra crash test exact same test but alot stronger build i know your gonna give me shit bout how its jap but hey its safer and thats what i look for and i know bout the recall but hey that started in 07 when they started making them here
HOLY SHIT...nothing against Ford, personally im a Dodge fan, but thats terrible at least they have figured out how to make a pickup stand up better to that kind of collision but damn that pickup got all sorts of F`ed up
I've seen a few crashes involving F-series from that time period (one was a 1998 and the other 2001) & they held up remarkably well unlike the little jap car that ran into them. I'd rather be in a truck like that than a honda or toyota or worse a kia or hyundai any day of the week.
Not suprised, since the weight ratios would be different. Also, Japanese auto manufactorers use a thinner sheet of metal to cover the body; but for a good reason: to absorb energy for the driver and passengers. But, ehh, it's not so good against a truck.
Ford really made a piece of shit here. If I had to be in my old Nissan pathfinder versus this Ford I will gladly step inside my riceburner!!!! RICE BURNERS RULE MOTHERFUCKERS!!!!!
Everything else being equal, yes, bigger means safer. That's not to say that a smaller car that's designed very well, with superior materials can't beat a much larger car.
The Mini is a very small car, yet it performs very well, esp. for its size.
I want to know how this simulates a car on car crash. that barrier doesnt move and is harder than a typical hevicle, thus its going to damage a vehicle much more than another vehicle would. Also i had an 01 ext. cab f150 that i hit the side of an s10 with at about 55, i was going 60 bt had time to slow about that much and my truck looked NOTHING like that afterwords. It was totaled but it didnt look like that. And i was perfectly fine.
Think about it, a car the same weight, crashes into a another car at the same weight, isn't really going anywhere when it crashes, this crash test stimulate the car being the same crashing into another car the same, so the block represents a car with crumple...... And that S10 you crashed into is a lighter vehicle, and it was not going towards you.
the fuck it does. a car hitting an equal car is nothing like this. a car is soft compared to a fucking block of concrete. the car WILL move when hit. this block wont. If i had my choice of hitting a parked car or even a moving one, or slamming into an immovable concrete block, il take the car
The barrier is not concrete. The front section is deformable, and simulates the crumple zone of a car. Because it doesn't move upon impact, it simulates a car of the same weight moving in the opposite direction.
This test therefore simulates two similar cars colliding head-on, each travelling 40 mph--or a car travelling at 80 mph hitting a parked car. Look at actual car-to-car offset tests, and the results are exactly the same. Simple physics.
Hi, thanks for posting this. Don't you think this makes the test results rather misleading? I'm guessing it's so the test doesn't look biased or something
Regardless of whether you use a concrete wall or a deformable barrier, it will always simulate a car colliding with another similar vehicle - because the crash forces are generated by the car's own momentum.
In reality, a pickup colliding with a small car will have an inherent size/weight advantage, which is why you can't directly compare across different sizes/weights.
But size only goes so far - often you would still be better off in a good-rated small car than a poor-rated large one.
@Amdrag5, dumbass it's an oval not a circle!

these are the worst-looking years as well. Never knew they were this bad in crashes.

the new f150s get better mileage, have better safety, and are more powerful. Not To Mention The Sick looking Chrome Package!

Buy Chevy!!!

SO you can have a weak truck that impresses the kids at school with your loud crap sounding exhaust!

Jesus H. Christ, that's a terrible crash test result for such a large vehicle.
fubecabr 2 years ago
Did you really think bigger car means better saftey?
korranda 2 years ago
Everything else being equal, yes, bigger means safer. That's not to say that a smaller car that's designed very well, with superior materials can't beat a much larger car.
The Mini is a very small car, yet it performs very well, esp. for its size.
fubecabr 2 years ago
I guess you are just talking about the laws of physics.
korranda 2 years ago
I want to know how this simulates a car on car crash. that barrier doesnt move and is harder than a typical hevicle, thus its going to damage a vehicle much more than another vehicle would. Also i had an 01 ext. cab f150 that i hit the side of an s10 with at about 55, i was going 60 bt had time to slow about that much and my truck looked NOTHING like that afterwords. It was totaled but it didnt look like that. And i was perfectly fine.
benchn280 2 years ago
Think about it, a car the same weight, crashes into a another car at the same weight, isn't really going anywhere when it crashes, this crash test stimulate the car being the same crashing into another car the same, so the block represents a car with crumple...... And that S10 you crashed into is a lighter vehicle, and it was not going towards you.
korranda 2 years ago
the fuck it does. a car hitting an equal car is nothing like this. a car is soft compared to a fucking block of concrete. the car WILL move when hit. this block wont. If i had my choice of hitting a parked car or even a moving one, or slamming into an immovable concrete block, il take the car
benchn280 2 years ago
The barrier is not concrete. The front section is deformable, and simulates the crumple zone of a car. Because it doesn't move upon impact, it simulates a car of the same weight moving in the opposite direction.
This test therefore simulates two similar cars colliding head-on, each travelling 40 mph--or a car travelling at 80 mph hitting a parked car. Look at actual car-to-car offset tests, and the results are exactly the same. Simple physics.
trainiax 2 years ago
Hi, thanks for posting this. Don't you think this makes the test results rather misleading? I'm guessing it's so the test doesn't look biased or something
robertpicardo 2 years ago
Regardless of whether you use a concrete wall or a deformable barrier, it will always simulate a car colliding with another similar vehicle - because the crash forces are generated by the car's own momentum.
In reality, a pickup colliding with a small car will have an inherent size/weight advantage, which is why you can't directly compare across different sizes/weights.
But size only goes so far - often you would still be better off in a good-rated small car than a poor-rated large one.
trainiax 2 years ago
Only place bigger is better is when it's up against smaller and lighter... not immovable objects...

Ouch! That's disturbing to me because my Grandpa drives one of those for his logging business.

Damn. What a piece of crap car. I can't believe that that pile of crap was America's best selling car at one point. Scary.

I know right? The interior is crap as well. It's better to even get the cheapest Kia on the lot!
