Thx for replying. I think it is plasic (heavy duty). The powerhead has a 'collar" around the opening where the wand is inserted, and I gather you have to press on this collar to remove the wand. My machine is a refurbished EL6988D - almost identical to the one you have.
they WERE eurekas a few years ago, lux changed the names, they WERE the eureka oxygen vacs, marketing crap. there is an english version that is all white some designer did it, looks cool but as i said, crap joe/tx

Would you pls demonstrate detaching the wand from the powerhead? It is VERY diffiicult for me to do this.

they also make this in a light blue but its called a sanitaire and this is a bagged model they do make a bagless model its white

Eureka and Electrolux are the same company. They have been for years. Most of the Eureka upright vacuum's are Electrolux upright in the UK.
