Dog barking at wild boar

I've been looking for a swedish elkhound everywhere none to be found in the US do you have any info as to where I could get one. that is a beuatiful animal.

Apparently all these people think wild boars are like that little piglet Wilbur from Charlotte's Web. Probably have no idea what kind of damage a boar can do to crops, livestock, domestic animals or people.

I wish I could have a Swedish Elkhound, but I can't find any breeders in the US-They're such a beautiful companion, and all around great dog! And brave! My dog would be terrified of the dead boar ; )

I really don't know anything like that. This is my fathers dog and he bought him from a friend here in Sweden. I'm afraid I don't know any breeders that you can import a dog from. :S

I'm afraid I don't. I'm borne and raised in Sweden, So I don't know at all if there is any breeders of Swedish elkhounds in the US. I'm sorry that I couldn't be of more help to you.

cowardly. The only exceptions are when the hunter really needs to do it for food. Hunting motivated by enjoyment is an extremelly ugly practice, carried out by immoral people.

In Sweden we dont have predatores in the wild to keep the balance so if we didnt shoot boar they would be EVERYWHERE. And if you want a healthy tribe of elks you have to keep it in check. Get som facts straight before you go out on your little preachermission.

How many dogs do you usually set on a boar at a time? Here in the UK it is illegal to hunt any animal using more than two dogs at once. I've stalked deer, but not boar (yet) - just wondering if two will be enough (I want to do it legally, but I don't want my dogs getting hurt).

Im sorry but I dont know actually. We only have one dog to hunt with, but I know people who uses two. I dont know if there is a law that says it is illegal to hunt with more then 2 dogs at a time.

A little late, but I'll answer anyway. I don't think there are any law against using multiple dogs while hunting (according to Jägarförbundet - Hunters association). In most cases one or two dogs are used and most hunters know that good hunting ethics are required to meet anti-hunting.groups with facts.

I recently read in an old magazine, dated 199x sometime, about the "new" laws in U.K. The proposed law intended to eliminate all hunting with dogs (not only the spectacular fox hunt), but the protests where huge. In Speakers' Corner/Hyde Park a sh*t load of protesters showed up, 300 000, I believe, manly farmers and other people from the countryside. I'm glad to hear it turned out somewhat fine.

Because we had just shot it and wanted our puppy to see it because that is what the he is going to hunt when he gets older. We wanted to se how he would react. The reaction couldnt be better! He stood his ground, barked and didnt get to close! Perfect for a 4 month old elkhound.

We had a Swedish Elkhound for 14 years, from when I was 17 to the time I was 31...

I was very sad when she died from cancer in her uterus and urinary bladder, as well as from leukemia...

I was a wreck for 2 and a half years...

Now I want another one, even if my folks don't... Male or Female, doesn't matter...
