i saw it and.. it was accurate for DP but not really for DR. The idea that he fell for a girl or had close friends was kind of.. off. in a real world DR situation, you dont get relationships. of any kind.
U r right. anxiety is the main couse of most mental disorders. My advise to u is, make sure u overcome your GAD. Preferably, without any meds. I have overcome sever anxiety and panic, so have many others. What worked for me was, trusting my thrapist. Recovery starts, the moment u convince your mind, that anxiety is all in the head, and nowhere else. Recovery starts, when u convince your mind, that u will not go crazy. I am telling u this, in hope to expedite your recovery. U can do it. Good luck
After 3 years of acting, being someone else, wherever I go, I've got hints of a similar disorder. Remembering who I am has never been more desirable for me.
The only thing that motivates me now is someone who's become very important to me. She makes me feel like I should. I can relate A LOT to Matthew Perry's character.
But as I said, I only know my own story. Love and friendship will be my way out. I just hope you'll find a way too. Good luck!
I agree with the distraction strategy. To supplement it, I would keep a list of how often I could get it to lessen or go away, and what seemed to work. Just having that list in my mind (after a while I didn't even need to write it down) would make me confident that I did have some measure of control over it, which would lessen the anxiety and thus the strength, duration, and frequency of my depersonalization episodes. Now they go away quickly and don't happen as often; they're no big deal.
I've had this disorder for years. Started after My dad died. It put my brain in a permanent anxiety stste. I got it to go away once by meditating for 45 minutes. BANG! It was then gone for two years. Unfortunately it came back. It's all stress and anxiety related. The constant dizziness and fatigue are awful. It's Nightmare! You feel like you have the Flu without having a fever. But it never goes away. Every day is a struggle. Always nauseus and sick to my stomach. Not fun.
DP SUCKS! Ive had it on and off for years. Its scary and if someone hasnt had it they cant really understand exacty what it is. We all appear normal outside but IN is turmoil. Whenever I turn 'normal' again I always worry about next time..
I have this problem. The best thing to do is distract yourself and your mind constantly. If you focus on yourself then you can drive yourself crazy. I know it's hard but concentrate on other things and don't look in the mirror or look at your body.
ye that works, ive got it abit from smoking weed twice or three times a week at a youngish age, im starting to get used to it but i know what you mean what you focus on yourself etc it makes thing seem bad :\
Sorry to be a downer, but this "disorder" afflicted me when I was 21. I lost the girl after I met the girl of my dreams though. I want to be able to laugh at it, but I cant. I wish I could feel love and have my personality back. SUCKS!!!
Look up Depersonalization Disorder on wikipedia, I have this aswell. Going on 2 years. Theres very little awareness about it even though there are alot of people out there that suffer from it.

THEORYZ1, I agree. It might not be the best thing for everyone, but it's certainly a method. At least it beats prescriptions.
