ive just watched the most beautifully played instrument on the planet....ive just heard the most amazing voice ive ever heard sing....THIS IS GOD ON THE GUITAR!
Is always a pleasure to listen to Gilmour, especially in this lovely version, but I feel we must give some credits to the fabulous Sam Brown, who guide the chorus! for me, the most underrated female artist in our time!
@jonathonpvaldez17 Waters Left After The Final Cut (1983). He Wasnt In Floyd For Pulse (1995), Division Bell (1994) Or a Momentary Lapse Of Reason (1987). Regards.
@jonathonpvaldez17 Pulse was in the mid-90s. It ended in 94, which probably means it kicked off in 93. Waters was not there. Yes, it used electric instrumentation.
he's so vulnerable up there, especially every time he performs the intro to this song, and ACOUSTICALLY, imean, forget about it. ha! anyways, he's been my idol now for a while and continues to be. and this performance is just another good reason why.
How does he get that electric tone out of an acoustic guitar?? Oo I mean the solo... at first I actually thought there was another guitar player playing the solo hah :p
anyway, beautiful song and this is a fantastic version, I got shivers :)
Ladies and Gentelman...this here is RAW TALENT in it's purest form! Can you imagine the feelings that the rest of the band and choir had while sharing the stage with a MASTER such as David? Gotta be close to orgasmic!
19MaciekW94: Now there is a question we'll likely never have an answer to. But given the sound and the bending he uses, I would guess they would be super lights maybe 10s slinky. Something like Ernie Ball Super slinky perhaps? Complete guess here.
It is an electric acoustic guitar, so the sound can be modified through the amplifier to sound almost however u want. Not quite sure all how it works.
What concert is this? It's not the Live at Royal Albert Hall, is it?
The setup of Albert Hall concert looks different than this one. Does anybody know where can I buy this. I checked Ebay Amazon, but nothing similar to this shows up.
can you tell me what's that box there. pause the vid at 5:18 and look at that box he's got there on the right. big round window with 4 buttons.

I believe that the soft sustained sound from his strat comes via delay. The closest I can come to it is with a Vox modeler of the original "echoplex" called "echo plus", and a touch of spring reverb. The delay and reverb are mixed so that you kind of have to be looking for it to notice. Also, Gilmour just came out with some signature strings from ghs which might help.
David's warm and sustained tone come from his multiple compressors and delay pedals, his strings, the modified pickups, and it's fingers. It's really hard to get close to that...
no you shouldnt be a musician because there is no future in it, do something else. Dude just be a musician if thats what you feel in your heart. Thats what i do... sounds pointless but thats what i feel

@MSG685 No Pulse was older had Waters in it and they used electric guitars. I think this concert was just nothing but acoustics.

Acoustic or strat...this song moves your soul... Although I prefer the strat version, just seems to have more passion with the strings ringing out...

Yeah, but the bends are ridiculous for acoustic strings.

You can see the G string isn't wounded. Probably .010 gauges with a pure steel G.

any of you gilmour fiends out there?????
can you tell me what's that box there. pause the vid at 5:18 and look at that box he's got there on the right. big round window with 4 buttons.
he has this in every concert, every vid, even on his boat in his home vids. what the hell is this box? can someone tell me?
it may be a tuner, but i'm not certain, and it would seem you can get that much smaller these days, and they're standard now part of those floor peddles. so anyone please if you know.
tubelogin1 3 years ago
tis a tuner my friend.
you were right. uses an oscilloscope to match the frequency of the note you are playing to the right pattern
HammondSM 3 years ago
yeah, it IS a tuner! i saw it in the mccartney/gilmour in a studio vid. he's tuning there with it.
but why 4 knobs? why so big? why have that box with him EVERYWHERE throughout his ENTIRE career? i dont get that.
tuners are standard in every single foot pedal today, in every gtr box. and he's lugging with him his old giant tuner.
that's fascinating. what's gilmour's gear anyway? how does he get that soft sustained sound with a strat anyway?
tubelogin1 3 years ago
I believe that the soft sustained sound from his strat comes via delay. The closest I can come to it is with a Vox modeler of the original "echoplex" called "echo plus", and a touch of spring reverb.
