I sang with Tony Amato, the lead here, many times in front of Viking Lanes when I was 15. It was just the three of us, my brother Pete did 1st tenor, and if I do say so myself, we sounded amazing. Tony was very soulful. Sang straight from the heart.Listen to him here on the break, near the end, all feeling. I learned from him. Im Brucevob on You Tube. Check out my accapella videos. Comments appreciated.
The Chaperones Tony Amato (lead), Roy Marchesano (1st tenor), Tommy Ronca (second tenor), Nick Salvato (baritone) and Richard Messina (bass). It was recorded in May 1959 but not released until the summer of 1960.

When I was in Jerusalem in 1975, I met a guy (another visiting American) who had worked on Wall Street with two or three of these guys back in the early '60s. When I asked about them, he said they said they had been cheated by their manager.

These guys went to my high school...Farmingdale, NY. They often sang this at our Sat. night "canteens" (sock hops). They were the band at our 40th reunion in 2002. They still sound the same. Great memories.

I love this song. I think it really sounds a lot like red hot chilli peppers. Check out their version of teenager in love if you don't believe me

Some of the best doo-wop was done in mid-tempo 6/8, and this is one of the better examples. Love it!

It's okay...You just lost your way for a moment!!
Anyhow; how are you? Between thee and me; I wouldn't fancy being "chaperoned" anywhere by these men: we'd soon get lost, wouldn't we?
It's a lovely song; isn't it?
Thank you.
Jennie.

Yes the Geeter plays this and many other great DooWop songs. Sometimes he would get into that groove and you didn't want it to stop. :-)
