These are simply just good musicians. Nothing flashy or fancy, nothing uppity, not trying to change the world or spread a message. Just fun, good music.
The gb's mean such to me. In '94 I got a green card and left Dublin for Boston. While working in a tshirt shop in Harvard Square, I heard "lost horizons" then my boss told me about doug h. In '96 I came home with tail between my legs and 200 cd's one of which was NME it still is one of my favourites.
@kibong1979 They actually broke up for awhile after that. Robin Wilson formed the Gas Giants (one single, Quitter) and Jesse formed his own band. They did reunion for a closing bar and figured out they could stand each other again. So, there you go. No wiki required.
Great tune... but the lead singer needs to do something different with what's left of his hair... or just go full-on Michael Stipe and do the Colonel Kurtz,
Just saw them in KC on friday. They are still awesome and their new cd No Chocalate Cake sounds like its going to be great from what I've heard. Miss Disarray is their new single.
i was a 4th grader wayback then i heard follow you down on radio and from then i find myself stealing cassette tapes on my aunts drawer just to record it almost waiting a wholeday and badly i never catch it..up to now rock bands come and go but ginblossom still my most favorite band..melodic rhythm on every track and a deep history of every compositions,Doug lay the foundations but Robin kept the framework still standing, its great that now im 29 yrs of age,dis guys still got me....
i just really like the composition and music of gin blossoms,., i heard them when i was a grade skul,., but until then i'm still listening and get an update to their albums,.,
not that the radio is totally devoid of anything decent anymore....but THIS IS WHAT A POP SONG IS SUPPOSED TO SOUND LIKE. Got to find their new album.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
great live sound ,so many fake bands can not do it live or in the studio now ,, im talking about arse holes like oasis and u2,, why dont they die instead of the good guys,,
do you play ? the interplay between musicians is more complex than who's name appears on the writing credits, when a band arranges a song there is a give and take and each member contributes nuances and inflections and the song takes its final shape.that is what establishes a bands sound and feel.i know this from 28 years in rock and roll bands my old band recorded our last cd at the same studio they were in at the time of nme they weren't the same after doug was fired how could they be?
Is the drummer the same..or they have a new one..it looks like not the original one! but anyway thanx a lot for uploading this video..very nice quality..go gin blossom..one of my favorite american band!

No, apparently not knowing what you're talking about distorts reality. I just mean it is impossible for one guy who wrote just half an album to physically be an entire band. Do the math on that one.
Yes, mathematically speaking you are correct. As for the talent in the band, that would be Doug Hopkins. The man who single handedly kept the rest of the band from being shortorder cooks and Wal-Mart associates by writing the songs that got the band noticed.
Well Robin and Jesse actually wrote more hits than Doug. Robin and Jesse wrote Follow You Down, Allison Road, Until I Fall Away, and Til I Hear From You. One could argue that it was not so much the songs themselves as the style in which they were played that got them noticed. If Doug was the only talent, the second album wouldn't have had 2 Top Ten hits.
I'm not sure how old you were in 1993, but I clearly remember hearing Hey Jealousy being played on the rotation of every rock station. It was the song that the label sold to the radio stations, and it was the song that exposed the American listeners to GB. After that, Mrs. Rita was released, then Found Out About You.
In any case, the whole album was great. One of my favorite to recommend along with The Charlie Sexton Sextet. And though the band has carried on, I believe the heart was Doug.
I agree Doug was the heart and soul, but he was not the band. I was 2 years old in 1993, but I remember when Follow You Down. Their second album was the first album I ever bought. It wasn't Doug that made me like them. I just like the Gin Blossoms sound as a whole. Still my favorite band.
I got to see the Gins at a private business event. I have grown up with their music, so it was amazing to meet them and hear their music in such an intimate setting.
For the record Phill left the band to get help at first (thats when scotty first steped in to be drummer) but when Phill got back he was ill recived by the fans. This is acording to wiki and the GB site.
Phill Rhodes is no longer in the band thanks to drinking problems. The new drummer is Scotty ?, he has been in the band sence 06 (i think). GB whent through a few drummers before settling with him.
The drummer is Scott (The Kooze) Kusmirek and he grew up in my hometown Munising Mi. Right now he plays with the band Matthew moon as well and is the current studio and live drummer ... hope this helped

Such a great band. Actually got a chance to meet them at a private business party that they played. It was cool to get to hear them in such an intimate setting.
Almost every GB performance Bill is in some dark corner, has he lost light lights or something? anyway Jesse's solo CD was good you just got to like folk to enjoy it. I guss young people didn't enjoy those tunes after all.
they rock ..the guitar players solo cd was horrible though...they rite great songs together...i met them in vegas.,.after a show,,,,awesome..sorry g-tar player
These guys are amazing... they deserve sooooooo much more credit than they get. They really helped define modern rock as it is now. Just my two cents here...
I heard this song when it first came out two years ago and had no idea who sang it, and have spent two years trying to find it. THANK YOU!!! Great song!!!
Saw these wonderful guys for $10-what a shame they don't have more support from radio. It was one of the best shows I've been to in years and was worth way more than 10 bucks. I've always loved them and am so glad to see them back. Great energy, great sound, great voice.
Just saw them live at gulfstream florida. They opened with this song and it sounded great live. Too bad radio gave up on them. Barely even hear their old stuff anymore.
I was fortunate enough to have seen these guys before they hit the road.Years have went by we all have grown, and it was amazing when this song was released,I felt I had made something of my own years because I still felt the connection with music.Only thing that bugs me now is Cody and Grady ragweed dont show enough respect to Jesse and the gang when if it were not for them,they-ragweed would still be in little bars wasting away
Lástima que Youtube no me dejó subir un video de Gin Blossoms en vivo en SNL porque SNL tiene derechos reservados. Era Follow you down. Saludos a todos los fans de los Gins.
