  • The only one I cant find is GUNS AND DOLLS but i figured it out in plain ole E tuning.starting in a D and some fancy finger pickin/bends. Anyone know where i can find a GUNS AND DOLLS video or tuning?

  • Good cover Jack, Chris music ain't easy for sure, I've tried other songs and found myself also pretty lost. I guess you're pretty close to the overall chord pattern Nice job !

  • hey nice job man. Watching this prompted me to find the tabs and learn it too. His intro is different from the verses and a bit more complicated. Reaaalllyyyy had to sit and listen to it to figure it out. I was pissed the tabs didn't have the bridge either, but I think i figured that out too. CW was a tricky guy.

Nice shine on that National. I have a Vintage Steel Delphi thats starting to tarnish real nice. Soon it'll match the way it sounds. Anyway, thanks for the inspiration.

  • Thanks, yeah CW is impossible to follow, just enjoy trying!

I havent cleaned this guitar for 10 years now, not even a wipe after playing it!

  • @jackn1969 CW was a musical genius. Too bad I didn't discover him until after his passing.

  • @citrix99301 Yep, I think CW almost impossible to match to be honest. I still play the Dirt Floor album at every chance I get, cant understand how he wasnt more famous than he was, he was genius.

  • Does anyone know where I can find the tabs or tuning for this?

  • CW uses D minor tuning. You can find tabs on the chriswhitley site then - forum - message board, theres tabs for almost all of his songs there.

  • Awesome, I'm going to go get some frustration on.

  • DUST FORUMS

  • I know that song well...pretty good!

  • thanks for dropping by, i see you already a CW fan, awaesome!

  • Real nice....

  • Thank you, keep listening to anything by Chris Whitley, he was just the best contemporary slide guitarist by far.

  • I love CW , & it is debateable whether he was the best contemp. slide player, but if you havent listened to John Moody--yer in for a suprise. He was a student of Son House,I believe. But much props to CW

  • It's not John Moody but John Mooney which is a New Orleans best gem (even if he's born in Rochester)

  • Nice job! (It was Still Sustaining when you shut off the recorder, you know!!!)

    great sounding National, too.

  • Hey thanks, the National is nearly ten years old now its really wearing in and sounding bluesier each year, plus real heavy gauge strings 16-59 help the bass to sustain forever!

  • Man, maybe it's my girly Les Paul fingers, but I can hardly make 13's play well on my Regal Tricone. Is your action pretty low? or, after 10 years, did you just finally develop superhuman hand powers???

  • LOL, yeah the superhuman hand powers help, just eat Krypton for breakfast, wearing red underpants helps too. Action is just as it was from the shop but I use Michael Messer National guitar strings made by Newtone, they get up to pitch with just a little less tension, aw man they make the resonator work for its money.

  • Really enjoyed that, cheers, keep up the good work.

  • Hey thanks for that, Im always gonna struggle with Chris Whitley tunes, he is such a hard act to follow, main thing is I enjoy trying. Chris Whitley R.I.P.

  • Great Cover.

  • This song is played in DADGAD tuning. Try it, it will sound much more accurate and be easier to play

  • Ive been trying to play the song in Dm tuning tho I never quite managed to get it together, but while doing this I started learning some Skip James, so thanks for helping me to branch out:-)
