Your a good man Senator Obama. Your from the same moral background my Grandparents raised me with & were the same age. It's good to hear the truth, I thank your truth and a simple honesty...one our US Government forgot about! Never change the change your campaigning for. We want you to be President...no doubt...America will make this happen.
ps: this past 1yr. for animal rights could not have happened without your call to action.
Why does McCain never tackle this issue in his speeches?
Our oil addiction is gradually bankrupting us. And it is largely unnecessary. You can now run cars on Electricity, Compressed air, water and also hydrogen. Look them up on this site!
It's very important that people understand that more drilling won't do us any good for the problem now, and it's the wrong route to anyway as we need to be focusing on green alternatives that are, like obama said, ready to use. So don't believe the commercials you see on TV folks, and make sure people know the truth, or else it will benefit McCain, as he's pretty much in line with the oil company agenda.
You've never studied economics have you? You must not know how investors and control prices in EVERY sector. Bush said drill and the price per barrel of oil dropped 26 dollars in 2 days. Read some books on investing, and take some business classes before you open your mouth next time.
Barack Obama is our last hope, & it's quite sad to know that Mindless American's would rather see this country fail than to vote an African American into office. It's wrong that ignorant Americans criticize everything that Obama has to say & yet over look so many mistakes Mccain has made in almost all of his interviews. It's like some people are trying to find any reason not to vote for Obama. They come up with all this false propaganda & call it truth...Americans really need to wake up!!!
Obama is aware of whats going on in the US. If he's willing to negotiate with the middle east, doesn't he deserve the chance to be the president? I believe Obama will change the country financially, education-wise,and health care. because he looks like he knows what he's doing. I wish for the first time in American history that an african-american becomes president of the United States it would give us the hope and the dream that a lot of heroes died for. We will finally get our dream.
Can some1 explain how Nuclear Waste is stored? Can it be used for something else? If not, abandon this idea becuz that stuff is either put underground dat seep into well water, in the ocean or in a rotting warehouse where the smell can hurt people if inhaled. Honestly ppl.
There are certain areas of the country where the bedrock is impermeable to water getting in, such as Yucca Mountain in Nevada. These areas are where it is suggested to store nuclear waste. The geology of such areas are carefully studied beforehand, and therefore they are quite certain to be stable for around 10,000 years. During this time, the nuclear materials decay and become harmless.
This man will be one of the greatest leaders in the history of the world and could possibly quite be America's greatest President if he can really change Washington. If this man can't change Washington then I beg someone to tell me who will!!!!!
Obama is 100% right. The dream is there ready to be made reality.
Electric cars have been around for nearly 200 years! But they can squeeze more money out of us if we're addicted to gas motors!...
Look up the Aptera, the Tesla, the MiEV, the Smart EV, the Mini EV, the Gwiz, the Lightning, the Volt, the Zenn, the compressed air car, the water car,... most are on you tube!
He misses a major point. He says that a problem with security is our dependence on foreign oil. Foreign oil... not oil. Oil is the same product wherever it comes from.
In the 1970s, the Sheikhs of the Middle East turned off the taps and launched an embargo on the USA. This turned out to be a dud - even though they did not sell the oil to the USA, the people whom they sold it to did.
When we import a product, in this case oil, from another country (or countries) to the point where we are dependent on that country to provide that product then it IS a problem. If we were supplying enough oil to meet our own demand, then we wouldn't be in a position where the price of a barrel of oil on the other side of the world effects our local economy so greatly. Sure, a minimal effect would still exist, but we wouldn't be in the midst of a recession solely because of one product.
but then again if we drill of shore we wont get a drop of it until 5 6 years later which means we still will be dependent on foreign oil.. we still will be paying foreign countries that fund terrorists money. The most logical thing to do is find an alternative solution.. its green and we wont be dependent on any other country.. thats whats causing all the mess right now.
I'm sick of the bull Obama is repeating about a slow withdrawal (18 months) for the safety of the troops, like they're withdrawing under attack from a real army.
The Iraqi resistance fighters won't be attacking our withdrawing troops--they'll be standing by the side of the road and waving good riddance with a big smile on their face.
these polls you see on t.v. are a complete fabrication designed to make a fixed election look convincing. a heavy voter turnout will prevent this. with a few exceptions, most of us can tell that mccain has not been up front about his military experience. in fact just recently, he got his main story mixed up about when he was interrogated in vietnam. how could he ever get this wrong? since this is not shown much in the media, right here is the the video:
im all for biofuels but it can be dangerous... growing food to turn into fuel?
suddenly we become dependent on corn or whatever plant we use to make it
its better than oil, but it needs to be carefully done so that we dont become dependent (think about if there was a drought, or maybe just a bad growing year. less corn for food and more for fuel (or the other way around) would alter prices)
I agree, biofuels aren't a practical solution (and very unpopular in the developing world for obvious reasons)
In the past, Obama has specifically said that his biofuel initiative would be non-food crops. Take that for what it's worth, at least he's aware of this potential problem.
I support him. But I do not want people to think from what he said that Southeast Asia is that violent. I live in Singapore and it's considered the safest place in the world(or one of them). Maybe it's just an exception though.
Change is slow in this society no matter what Mr. Obama or any other senator says. Mr. Obama gives a lot of facts and truth here. We will eventually run out of oil, it is a finite resource. We will have to develop other means eventually. I'm not impressed with Mr. Obama though I've been around long enough to realize that during election time all canidates will say what they think we want to hear so we will vote for them.
The only way this problem is going to get fixed is by getting third party voices in the media, the debates and in Washington. The democrats were idle, scared and indifferent in the past 8 years, why would they change now and risk losing their new found power?
Vote third party if you want these problems solved, that's why the rest of the world is so far ahead of us on these issues, because there are more than two voices.
Good answer! Good answer! I'll be voting for Bob Barr, Libertarian. And don't listen to people who say you are throwing your vote away. The only time a vote is wasted is when you don't vote.
if Barack isn't elected, I will be disillusioned with America... even more so than when Bush was re-elected... or should I say elected to his first real won term... how can it even be a choice between Obama and McSame??
Lol. If elections were based on which presidental candidate the other countires like more, Obama doesn't even need to campaign anymore. I can't wait until he gets to Germany. JFK got the dounut joke. What will Obama do?
Thx Mr.Obama , you allready inspired me a lot. Best of it as in effect of that I stopped drinkiing Alk. and I started to be a better father . I will change my life and I will compare our success in the future . Let us go ahead . ! Change ... yes we can
This great man is by far our best hope for a better future. John Mcsame will finish the job George Bush started of destroying this Great nation. The rich get richer and the middle class slips into poverty. John Mcsame and his 100 million dollar bride will save 400 thousand dollars a year in taxes while he offers nothing to the poor and middle class. If we lose our house it won't be because of our mrt payment it will be the cost of gas and food that does us in. Obama 08
The sacrifice he talks about are real. It means driving less, it means lower speed limits, it may mean higher gas taxes
In WWII, a 35MPH speed limit was mandated on the east coast, fuel rationing, 18 million veggie gardens in backyards, war bonds were sold, people were asked to make SERIOUS sacrifices
I hope once elected, Sen. Obama will follow his mantra of "Telling people not what they want to hear, but what they need to know." I think he has the courage to do that
Sen. Obama has always come close to taking about the challenges of "Peak Oil" without actually using the term. It's a tough issue for a politician to speak about.
The key is reducing demand. But you can't actually tell people "you need to drive less"; then they simply won't vote for you. They'll vote for the person pandering to them instead.
No amount of solar, wind, drilling, nuclear, and energy efficiency will allow the US to continue to use the 21 million barrels of oil we consume EVERY DAY
Very good speech..these are the things OBama has to keep addressing to us in details.he did a good job here about energy. He should do the same in details about immigration in details. go Obama!welcome to the white house!
If there is anyone who still thinks Barack Obama is not specific enough with his energy plans, they need only watch this video. There is a great level of detail here concerning wind and solar technology, and a comprehensive plan (not McCain's weak, hands-off approach) to demand and attain better fuel economy. Imagine how quickly we could've built a 25% renewable infrastructure if Bush hadn't wasted all that money in Iraq. Obama gives me hope and he backs it up with a solid, common-sense plan!
I have been a Barack supporter for years but I have to say I strongly disagree with his recent statments that our children must learn a foriegn language.
this is wonderful right here. obama will be a fine president. contrast the audience reaction here with any mccain town hall, and what you see is that barack is able to get people excited, and involved in creating the the change we so desperately need. the key to energy independence is working together to promote the clean renewable technologies we already have. when those levees broke along the missippi river, just think of all the hydroelectric power that was wasted as a result of bad planning.
we should of been green long time ago .... bunch of bull all i see ....seem its up to us to be green too not just obama ...... we need to find other way of enrgy such as wind sun and water ..... but we cant wait for a year or 20 years ..... we need it NOW
Still awesome. This is why he's better: because he actually says what he's going to do. McCain will never say how something is going to change, only that things may "change".
B-rock for life. I hope he is serious. this is going to be like when Hilliary went after health care. I know it's different but the opposition will be at least as fierce. It is all possible, fossil fuels are an obsolete technology, it would be nice to move into the 21st century. Of course we can but, this what the profit motive generates, GIGO.
even tho i support Obama i dnt think tht just bcuz the color of his skin we as a people should support him we(as African Americans) should support him bcuz of his political views bcuz he his a presidential candidate bt besides tht go Obama go!!!! lmbo
This is a nice comprehensive analysis of the importance of energy policy to national security. Sen. Obama should have his surrogates repeating these points on television constantly.
He should also have the movement message bombarding the air waves -- his biggest strength is the "movement" surrounding his candidacy -- that's how he will raise the money he needs and get the youth out in big numbers.
Finally we're going to have a US president who gets it about climate change. He's also doing a great job of selling the essential changes to the electorate. I'm British, and wish I could vote Obama in November.
This Speech was excellent. I'm looking forward to that "Venture Capital Fund" so that I can be one of the great business leaders of America's Green Revolution... remeber, you all in charge of Obama's Profile should also post the Q & A session, because he's very informative and gives complete answers that many voters will have after listening to his formal address. Let's go win this thing!
McCains primary concern is to make oil companies richer.
He wants:
- Extra Drilling = more oil profit.
- War in Iraq & Iran = more oil profit.
- To Open ANWR = more oil profit.
- No specific green targets (only feel good waffle!) = more oil profit.
- Gas tax holiday = higher prices & more oil profit (its been tried).
- No windfall tax on big oil companies to invest in raising car MPGs = more oil profit.
McCain has been bought & paid for.
He works for them.

this is wonderful right here. obama will be a fine president. contrast the audience reaction here with any mccain town hall, and what you see is that barack is able to get people excited, and involved in creating the the change we so desperately need. the key to energy independence is working together to promote the clean renewable technologies we already have. when those levees broke along the missippi river, just think of all the hydroelectric power that was wasted as a result of bad planning.

I'm ready for him to be our next president.

That was a pretty important speech. I heard Obama say things I haven't heard from politicians before.
- If Iran shut down the Strait of Hormuz, gas could be $12
- by 2030 the world will rely on the Middle East for 83% of its oil
- If we opened the entire US for drilling, we'd still only produce 3% of the world's oil

I missed it. But thanks for coming Senator Obama. At least I help get five people registered to vote.
I will catch you on the next one!
