  • I'm about to start the bassoon as my 4th instrument, after Bb trumpet, bass clarinet (treble clef), and Bb clarinet.. I have learned bass clef but I'm very curious where I can find a good quality bassoon..... what is the price range for a good quality bassoon?

  • @bluewatch234 I would say you can get a used one for 5000$. I'm not so sure about the prices. A new professional Yamaha costs around 20.000€.

  • very nice

  • very nice sir~~~~

  • Je tiens à dire que pour ces concertos, le système français est mieu que le fagott sonorement.

  • beautiful Bassoon what kind of bassoon is that

  • very good work

  • @pianoking53

I hav a model 3 and it wad like 6500

  • I herd of vivaldi in band class

  • Hey, nice! I just started the bassoon a few months ago. (It's awesome!) :D :D

  • great video you're my role model!

  • what kind of bassoon do you have a selmer, moosman, moenins? that bassoon sings to my ears

  • @mia500ful I bought my instrument from basoon maker Mr. Sarcevic, from Mainz. it's basically a copy of Heckel.

  • Methinks the title for the bassoon player was ill-considered.

  • does anyone know how much it costs to buy a bassoon?

  • exquisita interpretación deja notar la impecabilidad del sonido personalidad e interpretación de este bello instrumento. Pero vale destacar que el instrumento se es gracias a su interprete.

  • Very very nicely done! I'm an oboe player :) I really enjoyed this!

  • BASSOONIST ROCK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

  • Very nice job! I'm sure you get this question but what excersizes would you find god to improve my bassoon tone?

  • @MrCReagan : you can try practicing scales, etudes and long tones (with crescendo and diminuendo).

  • @jagatinho Thanks very much. What reeds do you perfer?

  • @MrCReagan : I haven't tried many varieties of reeds. I buy the reeds from the maker "Danzi" from Italy.

  • @jagatinho Great! Thank you so much.

  • Bassoon sounds nice, but it is the cost of the instruments that turn me to another instrument. If they aren't that expensive, I would really consider training in that instrument. How much did you spend on your instrument when you thought that bassoon is for you? How did you know bassoon is really for you, since you can't really drop the instrument as it is so costly.

  • @bigfatfoot : My parents bought it for me, the price was 10.000 deutch marks at the time. I got it really "cheap".

Nowadays it would cost me about 20.000 €.

I thought bassoon would be a good instrument for me after playing it for 2 years.

  • @jagatinho

You meant Twenty Thousand Euros, didn't you?

Oh my goodness..... your parents are pretty sure you like the instrument.

  • @bigfatfoot : Yes, that much today. But my price was 5000 €. It took my parents about 2 years to save that much.

  • @bigfatfoot I got my first bassoon after 1 and a half years after I started.

It is a fox bassoon, that my teacher had said was pretty standard among high school/college students.

The edition was $7000 more or less.

Might I need to remind you of the option to rent the instrument.

A nicer basoon plays a lot better than other ones, so personally I believe the investment is worth it.

  • Legit :D

  • Oh, this is absolutely beautiful! How long have you been playing? I started a year ago, in my freshman year of high school, and I can never manage the high registers. How do you do those?

  • @tpotfm14 : I've been practising for 6 years before I played this concert. You can't master the bassoon or any other instrument in one year. Unless you are Paul McCartney or something :)

  • @jagatinho do u have any adivce for jut beginners?like me?

  • @mahmoodnooni23 : practice? :)

    do you have a teacher?

  • @jagatinho no i don't have enough money for a teacher.i'm using my school's bassoon so i'm not paying for mine

  • actually, i personally picked up the bassoon very quickly in about two weeks with constant practicing. not being cocky or anything.

amazing job on this performance. do you have the sheet music?

  • actually, i found it not to difficult to pick up. i learned the bassoon, and memorized all fingerings( even high registers up to high C#) and major scales in about a month . not bragging but you make bassoon sound like the most difficult instrument ( whick it probably is but still)

amazing performance, do you have the sheet music for that?

  • @dude22man : not any more. Thanks...

  • @dude22man Fingerings and scales take about 1-4 months, getting the one, and technique take a lifetime.

  • @MCALfilms results will vary based on the person

  • I played bassoon in Jr and Sr High school. This is such a beautiful piece. I'm glad I found your video.

  • I played bassoon in Jr and Sr High school. This is such a beautiful piece. I'm glad I found your video.

  • wow! your awesome!

  • Awesome job! glad i found your video! i'm looking at a couple of pieces to pick out what I want to play for the semester and this is one i'm considering, as well as Vivaldi's other in A minor. you play wonderfully =]

  • Serious question how do you do the trill from between F sharp and E?

  • @CheeseyCrackers12345 I think with the middle finger of the left hand.

  • Does it make me immature if i giggled at your title "fagot" :D

  • wow! what handsome pianist:D of course music is awesome...

  • Great playing! Which reeds are you using? (store, your own, teacher, online reed maker)

  • Thanks.

I'm too lazy to learn to make my own reeds. I buy the reeds in the shop from the maker "Danzi" from Italy.

  • That's a fagot!

  • Wow, i love it. I'm playing this too. But against him i'm terrible =)

  • Wow! Very good job! Can I have some tips for this song, I'm playing it for a contest.

  • Thanks!

Just play as I did and you'll win!

    Just kidding :)

  • faggot

  • What does 'fagot' mean in musical terms?

(It appears under your name in the video when they zoom in on you?)

  • Fagot = bassoon.

  • Oh! Okay, I see. Sorry for my ignorance. Thank you for the answer, good sir. I loved your playing in this, it was wondrous! :]

  • Thanks!

It's called fagot, fagott, fagotto, bassoon, basson in different languages ;)

  • The bassoon is German and in German, fagot, faggotto, means bundle of sticks=bassoon

  • Fagot=german

    fagotto=italian

    bassoon=english

You're right about the bundle of sticks though (it.: fagotto).

  • @jagatinho fagot in Romanian, and Portuguese

  • wow I'm doing this solo for a contest. Any advice besides practicing octave jumps?

  • Ahh puts my playing to shame ^.^

But I guess its really down to passion. At the end of the day I've never been passionate about playing the bassoon, my first passion will always be singing and I want to study opera at the royal academy after college.

Like all instruments, the better ones are the ones who love to play, I think you're one of them :)

Have you got anymore recent ones of you playing?

  • The most recent one is, when I played Beatles with my friends on bassoons :)

Just type "Beatles Because bassoon" in search.

  • damn, i wish i played bassoon, our school has one, im in band, and asked the teacher if i can play it, he said not until i snatch the pebbles out of his hand... meaning i gotta get better at playing what ive already got. ugh.

  • i might learn after the guy playing the school's instrument graduates this year :3

  • nice

  • Excellent playing! This is such a great piece for bassoon!

  • God this is GREAT!!! I love this

  • Men i love this , you're a great musician. Do you still perform on stage? if so how often ?

  • Thank you, you're too kind.

I don't perform solo often, I play prinicipal bassoon in an opera orchestra.

Maybe I will have a solo concert with an orchestra in spring, after a looong time.

  • Wow that was absolutely beautiful.

    What bassoon do you use?

  • Thank you!

I bought my instruent from basoon maker Mr. Sarcevic, from Mainz.

  • You don't have any model numbers or brands? Maybe a link? I'm looking to get myself a new bassoon and I want to keep looking for some good bassoons before I go out and spend $25,000 on one

  • I don't think he has a website.

His best instruments exceed 25.000$ :s

My bassoon only has a serial number on it.

  • interesting. i don't know why he wouldn't label them to advertise but how do they compare to other famous brands (puchner, fox, heckel, etc)

  • The sound is very good (excellent wood), but intonation is not so good, I would say - comparing to the famous brands).

Did you think about Yamaha? I'd go for them if i was you.

  • Have you tried yamaha before? Yamaha never makes a bad instrument but I don't know how they would fare against Fox bassoons and Puchners I have a student renard (maple) that I love. Intonation is usually able to be fixed by players especially bassoonists so that's a maybe. How much did your model cost?

  • I've tried my friend's yamaha, it's great!

My model was relatively cheap at the time (1989) - 5000 EURO.

  • Have you tested other brands and how do the biggies compare?

If you don't mind me asking how old are you in this video and how old are you now? In the video you look quite youthful but I'm not sure

  • I didn't do much testing, but most of my friends say Heckel is the best.

    I was 21 in the video, now I'm 37.

  • My humble congratulations, too. My angels!!

  • wow

  • Wow, wonderful... I am not keen on the piano, but that is no fault of the pianist. He plays spectacularly, as does you! Thankyou for sharing this wonderful concerto.

  • Thank you for listening!

  • Its Beautiful, Its Amazing, Its Fantastic!!I

  • Thanks!

  • I don't really like the piano realization, i prefer the ones that cover the string parts more completely, we were missing out on a lot of countermelody stuff from the first violin, but it just isn't included in the piano part. :(

    nice playing otherwise!

  • Thank you!

  • agree!

  • this is my favorite vivaldi bassoon concerto.. fantastic playing!! :)

  • Mine too. Thanks!

  • you are very good, i really enjoyed your playing

    all my best

  • Thank you!

  • What type of bassoon did you have when you played this?

  • I still play it.

It's from a "private" bassoon maker, Mr. Sarcevic from Germany.

  • how much did you have to pay for it and how did you find the seller

  • Actually my parents payed for it. 10.000 german marks at that time (around 1989).

But it was not completely new when they bought it, someone else was playing it before.

  • Слушателей в зале жалко...

  • bravo!!! very nice job i am almost jealous!! :D

the only thing is your embrochuer is way different from the way ive been taught...but you sound beautiful though so it seems there is more than one way to learn :D

  • Thank you.

  • im a bassoonist also, and i adore it. i want to go somewhere with my bassooning eventually, but id like to know how much time u spend practicing to prepare for a gig like this. and how did you get to play in a gig like this? are you in a philharmonic orchestra? how did u get to the place you are now?

  • I was your age when I played this, it was a long time ago, so I don't remember exactly how much I practiced then. But I never really practised more than 1,5 - 2 hours. I was never a hardworking player. I got the gig as a reward for the first prize at the youth competition.

Now I have a job in an opera orchestra.

  • I just started playing bassoon for my middle school band. And it is HARD! I mean..i switched over from alto saxophone..so all the fingers were different. The bassoonist in this video is absolutely amazing! I just hope that one day I'll be able to get my thumb keys right...(god gave us one thumb..the inventor of the bassoon gave us 57 thumb keys.((not exactly 57..but close~!)) ) I really do hope that I'll be able to play as good as he does! Good job to both the bassoonist and the piano player!

  • Thanks. I'm the one who's playing bassoon here.

I agree bassoon is quite an awkward instrument, but there are some incredible virtuosos on it. Of course, they practice a lot :)

Be careful not to injure the thumb. I sometimes do, while playing volleyball and then I can't play bassoon for a while. I guess I should stop playing it :s

  • It is nice. But there's still space for improvement.

  • Great performance!

can you give me an RV number for this?

    -chris

  • What is a RV number?

  • It's the catalogue system they gave vivaldi

example- his concerto for 4 violins in b minor op.3 no.10 is also referred to RV580

it just makes the process of ordering sheet music easier, since he wrote alot of bassoon concertos

  • Sorry, I don't know the number, I've played from a copy not original.

  • rv484.

  • May not be able to play it better but it aint perfect...

  • wow its just unbelievable that anyone could put a bad or unsupportive comment on this video. i highly doubt that anyone who put a comment on this video could do half this good, so dont even begin to play the whole utube im-better-than-you crap, because clearly u would be a god to beat what this guy just showed you.

  • this wasnt bad, but also not an amazing performance, and because someone says that doesnt mean they cant do better, that is ignorant.

people get upset fopr mentioning facts...because they are insecure. and the bassoon player does make mistakes in technique and he skips a few notes in some timing areas.

  • where can you get the sheet muci for the 1st movement i'mguessing that's the one that is the faster one???? I want to play this!

  • I got it from my teacher.

  • try june emerson

  • i wish i could play like this D:

  • And btw the beatles on bassoon that he is playing, are awesome. So much better than this.

Acctually i dont need to say my motives. Especially not to some one who i barely know. And I can't be jealous. It wouldn't be a logic thing. Because Of course i can't play like him. Hello? before you say think !!!!!

  • Oh my God . i'm not jealous to someone who is of course better then me . im 3rd grade . Hello? Primary music school. I'm just saying what i learned. And btw triquera , are you playing bassoon?

  • of course I play bassoon (:

and I'm not really good, I'm triying, I'm first grader

but doesn't care when listening to a MASTER like the one in this video (:

  • amazing job man!!!

  • Thank you (tuba or not tuba):)

  • this is so beautiful!

    I love this piece

and your trills are so stunning *-*

    xD you're cute too!

(: thanks for posting this, I'm a bassoonist too, xD well, I'm just learning

  • Thanks, viva Mexico :)

  • Your instrument is absolutely beautiful, and your tone is incredible ! I think I have fallen in love with you! You must have spent so long practicing! I wish I could hear you just playing alone, with what you feel with no score, I bet it would be amazing

  • Thanks. Unfortunately I was always quite lazy for practicing.

Check out my Beatles bassoon cover (if you haven't already). I hope you like it.

  • Lucky you then. I spent forever practicing the trumpet but Sadly I had to give it up for health reasons T_T; ces la vie! And yes I did! I loved it absolutely amazing!

    I think I love you o.O

  • No vibrato, no soul, no color in my playing??

Ok, if that's the way you see it...

  • poor smole133

you are just showing how far a jealous person can go

c'mon, this a beautiful piece, and really nicely played

    just enjoy, don't mess up

    congratulations jagantino!

    a kiss from mex (:

  • Is not nothing special.

  • yes, he has a very interesting tone. good nontheless, but interesting. i don't know if it's the recording, but the sound could be allitle broader to me. good job overall!

  • I also don't like what they did to the sound.

I think it's the recording technicians fault.

  • good performance :) i just played this concert as a soloist

  • I love the tone!

  • Thanks.

  • Very good!!! I liked it! what make is your bassoon??

  • Thanks. Bassoon has officially no brand:) (unofficially it was made by Mr. Sarcevic from Mainz):) He worked for Schreiber, now he is "solo". My parents bought this instrument for me some 18,19 years ago.

  • nice!! i have just purchased a schreiber prestige, S91:)so pleased with it!!! i got to learn this movement for mny grade 8!! lol!!! should be fun i like it!!

  • Another one of my fav. songs. The even eights at the beginning of mvmnt one I didnt like, though the rest of it was a nice interpretation

  • Thanks.

I don't know what do you mean by "even eights". Do you also play bassoon?

  • Hi, yes I play bassoon. Sorry, I'm talking about the appogiaturas you played at 2:10. They weren't even after all. It really is just a matter of opinion, but I prefer it played like the ones right at the beginning. On further thought I don't mind it. You sound good.

  • As I recall my professor told me to play the appogiaturas like that. So let's blame it on him:)

  • amo este concierto

encuentro que el fagot es el instrumento mas lindo de la familia de las maderas

    adios
