T'was so long ago back in 1974, I'd found a hash cookie in my pocket and off into the city, on a lovely outing. Bought sci fi book "Dwellers in the mirage" by Meritt, and found LP in German Electronic music shop in Melbourne. I read book on the way home with the LP playing in my head. Holed up in the living room I read and listened in another world for the next few hours and on into the night. (driving my parents witless with its repetition, and my father a drummer, too)
apparently the members of faust only found out the album had been released in the 90s, because they were so stoned when they recorded it. Thats why they did 'outside the dream syndicate alive', so they could make up for lost experiences.
Although not many people will be familiar with the name or the work of Tony Conrad, he is peeless when it comes to minamalism. Go seek "Slapping Pythagarus".A true musical visionary , coued here with a whole gang of visionarys with Faust!.
This really is quite something , the effect of the two overlaid images pulseating in and out whilst Conrads violin hovers ominously like a spectre over proceedings,is quite spellbinding.
Thanks a bunch for uploading! I discovered this through the best-of-2003 list on thewire. I therefor want to warn all the adventurous music lovers who like stuff like can, neu!, pereubu, eno, beefheart) but also like jazz and free jazz (coltrane, albert ayler), or electronic music (I am just getting into it, damn!, but dopplereffekt is amazing) or modern classical music (feldman, a. knaifel), stay away! don't go there, really don't or get rich first!
Thank you for this upload! I've never heard about this piece and drone music at all. I just surfed on wikipedia, and followed links of articles about Popol Vuh -> new age -> drone -> drone music -> List of drone artists -> common album by Faust and Tony Conrad full of violin drone music... hmm sounds interesting -> searched on youtube and found your video! Thanks for helping me to find another interesting music!!
had a similar hypnotic repetition feel to "it's a rainy day sunshine girl" by the one and only Faust, but this song had a tony conrad feeling to it. A great combination i must say.
Though i must say, the song works better in it's uninterrupted entirety. Great song to give people the gist of what "outside the dream syndicate" is all about though.
amazing

Got annoying about 20 seconds in. Screw you, Tony Conrad.

someone forgot to turn off the drum machine it seems stuck on the annoying setting. Honestly am radio noise is better for this kind of effect.

@MrPabz9 I'm really hoping you meant to say "peerless" and a letter ran away... or else that statement would be REALLY funny...
