I used to lay on the floor and listen to Word Jazz on Wyoming Public Radio back in the mid '80's. The music after the the Word Jazz segments is something I've searched for for years. Used to start off Word Jazz, Word Jazz, do that a few times and get progressively louder...any idea what it is or where it might be? I had all the Word Jazz segments taped until the heat in my storage area warped all the tapes...what a drag.
so true... i use bickering as a tool like a troll ease dropping and running to tell like a kid,a woman woman wanted me to cut her grass by doing a little bit of bickering the woman thats acting like a kid ran and told her and i didiint have to cut the grass that day ,the old woman got someone to do it for me!!!
Thank you for sharing your talent with all of us Ken. I am truly thankful my friend and I found your Best of Word Jazz record in his dad's attic so long ago. You're an inspiration my good man-
Ken, I've just come across your work and I'm amazed. You seem to echo all the twists and plosives of the mind itself. I never knew that the quiet intensity of private thought could satisfyingly expressed through the voice. You're a bloody genius.
you're awesome ken. i discovered you driving around chicago in the middle of the nights, a crazy improv artist wandering sketching troubadore looking for someone to keep me from going mad in my car alone, learning to love the city. and suddenly your voice is there in the radio. an occasional companion in my wanderings. i never knew when you'd be on. sometimes i'd just meet you. and it was great. i conquered my little corner of that scene. you were a part of my fuel. thanks man.
before i ever knew of ken nordine, i loved those amoco commercials he did in the early 90s. very funny and they stay lodged in the walnut. this style is in the same vein.
Wonderful stuff ... can't say enough! I've been a fan of your art ever since I heard what I think is the original Word Jazz LP from '51 is it? The one with "Vidiot" on it and, my favorite, "The Sound Museum." finding you on YouTube has really made my day. All the best to you. NPR doesn't realize what they're missing.
Of this and each of your other videos: the intelligence, the art, the prose, the voice---the longer you live, master of all the above-mentioned, the longer we simpler folk can both be inspired by, and enjoy, it all. Countless thanks.
I've been a fan since 81 when I discovered your Word Jazz shows on the local PBS fm station that aired every Sunday night I believe.I would get some buddies together and sit in front of the speakers and close our eyes and get ready to be taken out of our reality.Oh, that 30 minutes or maybe one hour break once a week was definitely worth the wait. I am glad you are offering these clips on youtube. pLEASE add more!
Nice piece, Ken. Like many folks, I first came across your work on the NewTek REVOLUTIONS video -- truly genius. A paradigm shift, in fact :)
I am curious if this style of talking with yourself is an invention of your own? Were you brought in for the NewTek video specifically because of this talent? Or were you invited for normal voice over work and you brought in the double-talk?
I have enjoyed your work since, well since forever. (I was born in '62)
I've always liked the use of the 2nd voice in your work. (meaning, I like the voice, but I really dig what it represents, (to me) the subconscious mind addressing the conscious.
(This also could be the result of a lifetime of ganja consumption.)
One thing, how come it appears you're checking in more regularly here than your site?
Sometimes it's a kindness to anger someone. When necissary I will purposefully anger my girlfriend to distract her from something that's worrying her. For a short time she'll forget whatever it was and, well, bicker with me over some little thing.
I really enjoy your work. This one was cute, made me think about my grandparents. My grandpa used to say things just to get my grandma riled up. And once he made his goal he would laugh at her bickering. It was actually pretty funny to watch if you could see the humor in it.
Meh, it's okay I guess.

Glad you like what I do. I tried to reply with Gmail and didn't see my reply. I thought of the double talk...even went as far a 'triple talk'

talking to myself talking to myself is the only way I can amend what I say. If I go over board, I can say tsk tsk tsk to filter the
ego. Or I can tell myself..don't be scared, there's nothing to fear but the lack of fear. NewTek videa was fun doing.

some people make a fine art out of bickering, high level teasing, and it can be very funny,

hi...thanks for the applause. The talking to myself is something I thought of, so I could amend opinions as they flow out of just thinking.
