Blades are designed to bend rather than snap, because anything which would be strong enough to stay rigid while a person does pullups with it would either be too brittle to use (it would shatter as soon as you hit something) or would be too thick to cut well (and of course too heavy).

I have seen skilled fighters use these swords at a variety of ranges (they can be used with almost a "half swording" style and also be used like a bayonet very efficiently). A skilled weilder can also use the pommel and the guard of the sword as weapons in their own right). It's only "inefficient" if you don't know how to use it :)

@gargamel55 It can be considered a lethal weapon, so most likely not. While the design is simplistic compared to the firearms we use today, i've got no doubt a Cold Steel Zweihander could easily kill an airport security guard wielding a nightstick.

@Hipojak We used the same sword for the entire demonstration. A lot of these tests are abusive and it certainly wasn't as sharp at the end of the tests as it was when it started but it was still going strong.

as much as I agree with the fact that the great sword is a valuable asset and a powerful weapon to those who can wield it, but if someone closes the distance between the weapon then it becomes a bit like paperweight, but it is still an awesome sword
@martin14941 the secondary handle allows you to choke up on the sword and the ring guard can be held to use the sword like a bayonet or spear. The heavy pommel also makes a formidable bludgeoning weapon. If you train with a Great Sword there are many options regardless of range. It's an awesome sword that grows with you. As your skill and knowledge increases the sword is there for you. I like it a lot :)

This sword comes in handy during day-to-day domestic situations. See, I'm the Lord of a northern castle and I sometimes have to execute deserters from the Night's Watch. I bought one of these greatswords and named it "Ice". It beheads beautifully! I haven't botched a single beheading. Boy, I sure wouldn't like to be on the receiving end of this badboy...

@tyleraz24 self defense for the street in the 16 century? there are manuals for it, specially useful against multiple opponents with inferior weapons... guess not a modern weapon:)

i bought your cold steel katana machete im extreamly happy with it i was chopping some stuff in half as i went to swing i was on a angle and i hit a bit of stone i saw something fly in the air i was like omg no please no i looked around on the sword not even a scratch i was amazed when you said it knocks off hard blows in you katana machete video you were right.
