yeah that's a good idea instead of doing regular push ups, but the correct way to do this is on the very tips of your fingers, as if they were at a 90 degree angle to the floor
@00scuff00 definetly NOT the correct way. you have no tissue to sustain the pressure on your fingertips at 90 degrees. that will open a wound in time, if you keep doing that. plus, you can't play your guitar anymore ^^
Great Video. You want grip strength, you need strong fingers, hands, and wrists. One tool that will give you this is the Powerball. Check my channel for visual proof.
I've found I get less ads using firefox. I don't quite know why that is but the ads are all over videos when I use IE. I do use the flash blocker on firefox so that could be it. Try it out, you might find youtube less annoying.
i wouldnt recommend doing this for anyone who is new to finger tip pushups you could snap your fingers pretty easily doing this if you havent built up any strength in their fingers yet
@Manny1222 it is actually VERY prejudicial. musicians need agility and flexiblity mainly, strength has to be dosed and tuned down to their style. doing this will only make your joints more stiff and prone to long term arthritis.
You need strong fingers for better grip especially using Gi chokes like in BJ-J but i wouldn't recommend this video. Try with a partner in Gi gripping the "skirt" of the Gi under the belt on his back with four fingers, thumbs outward. Lie on your chest and he should start walking on the mat. Let him pull you until it hurts and then keep going. You will see that this works.
When strenghtening the fingers, you must keep them bent INWARDS (referred to as "bridging"). Otherwise it will lead to long term degradation of the joints. (and you strenght will actually not improve at all)
agreed...beware the little joints in the hands are sensetive although this is difficult and should help to build strength in the fingers it is not for everyone and can damage joints 100%
oops didnt mean to bad rate... in martial arts, strikes and grip. look dim mak and chin na...oh god those are badass...chinese arts... dim mak translates into somethng like "deathhand" ....all finger strength for the most part
You can be the strongest man in the world in your shoulders' arms, legs, and core, but if you can't grip something, it doesn't matter. Generally, though, if you work with a lot of freeweight dumbbells, and you are sure to stretch your fingers and wrists before and after working out, then as your arms get stronger, your fingers/ hands/ forearms will follow suit as you are holding dumbbells for most of your workout. For matrial arts though it can help to have a bit more.

I like your Videos. most of them are good training exercises. and 90% do i know from my training in Shao Lin Gong Fu
but this exercise is not healthy. cause it is realy bad for four your fingers!

This could also be helpful for musicians in conditioning their fingers. SWEET!
Manny1222 2 years ago 2
That's exactly why i watched this video.

Although this could really mess up your tendons. I think I'll just strengthen my fingers by playing guitar and piano.
