this is a ridiculous presentation. noone dresses like this noone ever did. except for the wedding gown. but the royal costume was so fake it never includes black or dark colors thiese are only for men. and this kabuki show of removing the white kimono to reveal the purple one underneath this is a stage trick for kabuki actors to impress the audience coming from back stage actually hen they had to change so quickly. there is nothing traditonal about it
@lukkha1 Their royal kimono is actually pretty accurate. Its called a Junihitoe. Darker colours were also worn by women. Read the Pillow Book and the Tale of Genji, both written by Heian-period courtiers cerca 1000 A.D. Junihitoe means Twelve Layered Kimono. There are centuries old Japanese block prints depicting royal ladies wearing these clothes, some in dark colors. The Imperial Family of Japan today wears the Junihitoe during state marriages. The Empress herself wears dark-red.
@lukkha1 Kabuki is part of traditional Japanese culture, everything from the costumes to stage tricks, I have no idea what you are talking about. Izumo no Okuni, the founder of Kabuki, who has a statue built for her in Kyoto nearby the Kamo River, invented many of these tricks centuries ago.
@lukkha1 Many Japanese girls wear those extremely flashy kimonos during the Coming of Age day in January. They congregate around shrines in Tokyo, you'll see these girls even adding faux-fur on the collars. For someone who lives in Japan I'm surprised you don't know this. Also you need to learn how to spell, its "no one" not "noone," your whole comment is filled with grammatical and spelling errors.
@starlightshimmers what i am suprised of is that you believe you can come and teach me about kimono. my family runs a kimono bisiness in japan for over 3oo years. i produce kimono myself and i am the 17 th generation of our family business. i also give seminar abroad precisely to avoid this kind of stupid misundertsanding of the kimono and how is was worn traditionally. so yes i know the jumi hitoe and all its history i also know the seijin shiki and this is why i posted my comment here.
@lukkha1 It's kind of hard to take you seriously when you type that way, because it is how many young teenagers in North America type. Anyways, I would just say that its important to take it easy on the organizers. They are Japanese but Hawaiian based.
@starlightshimmers so now you are also calling me a liar . well i am only 35 and i was born in this business sorry i studied in the US and france and england and am not a relic of the heian period, i do traditional thing i am not a traditional thing . if you dont belive me here is my phone number please feel free to call me in japan and we will discuss it
00 81 for japan and 80 3395 6135
i just want to bring kimono back to were it belongs and even if i sound like a teenager its a matter
@starlightshimmers even if i may sound like a teenager to you i t is a matter of respect for my culture my heritage and my family to not let stupid videos on youtube teach something completely wrong about a topic i have been studying almost all my life
@starlightshimmers in this demonstration the colours used for the junihitoe are all wrong, and the furisode of today are so cheap they wouldnt even been used as iegi housewear a hundred years ago. almost noone can afford an authentic furisode today so everybody buys those very easy ones . it requires only a 4 months to be done , when a real furisode requires 2 years . so i am sorry to teach you something but what you call kimono is a far cry from what i know kimono to be
@lukkha1 I never called myself a "kimono expert" but the way you present your opinions are so vague and hard to understand. If you explained why "darker colors" shouldn't be worn by ladies, even though they were, I would've have said a thing.
@starlightshimmers i dont have time to explain to you all the subtility in colour choice during the heian period. their were more then 50 different shade of colour and over a 1000 way to awase them to put them together, but the rules were very strict like colour combinations. one called matsu for example in january made of green and white symbolizing pine tree then later one ume red and white then yamabuki a sort of yellow and light brown etc etc it is almost endless
@lukkha1 Its just a simple misunderstanding. The way you worded your comment was very hard to understand and almost sounded childish. Its important to keep in mind in the internet, people will judge you on how you word things. Just a misunderstanding that is all.
@starlightshimmers if you ever visit japan, come to kyoto , come to eriman where i belong and ask to see an authentic edozuma from taisho meiji and if you're lucky an edo one and you will see what a real kimono is /
@lukkha1 I'll keep that in mind. Note that I'm having a hard time trying to understand your messages that is why I have my doubts. If it was well explained I wouldn't have said a thing. But your whole comment was all criticism and no explanation.
@starlightshimmers sorry my french is better than my english and i cannot take too much time answering to your messages as i am working too. but get books on the heian period and the influence of nature on kimono throughout eras, from heian to taisho, but after taisho whatever you call kimono is just cheap things that a true kimono connaisseur would never call kimono. an average kimono for average japanese costs 400 000 yen about 4 000 dollars today a real kimono costs 5 000 000 yen 50 000 $
@starlightshimmers but you can have a look at a real kimono for free if you visit kyoto some day and the old kimono or geiko's kimono are even more expensive. an antique kimono for a geiko is about 1 million dollar . it is not a matter of price it is a matter of maestria in the way it was made and those 1 million dollars geiko edo hikizuri took 4 years to be made for a single item/ and even higher in quality is noh theater kimono these are just priceless and require 10 years to be made
