  • @MrRemilla why don't you download the vid and play it in slow motion? Than you can clearly see notes and get the rhythm by ear or by eye ;)

  • Absolutely wonderful! Thanks!

  • probably my favourite piano version of this piece on youtube! Well done 7notemode! If you like this piece check out my flute version on my channel page :)

  • I think this cat need a little more practice before the Carnegie Hall gig... LOL

That's some nice stuff man 7notemode...

  • Great drive in the song man! How did you learnt the song, first by realbook and then listen to special things in the song, or the realbook and improvised it all?

    Kinds regards Form Matthijs

  • @maty7976321 I use realbook sometimes, but this was by ear.

  • PS Sorry for those 3 postings - my first time commenting on youtube!

  • Hey 7note, great work! You would be a huge success in any jazz lounge.. so too bad that you aren't out there giving people the pleasure of listening to you! I would love to sing with you - you' ve got great rhythm and a very creative style! More a singer than a pianist, I will still be taking inspiration from your videos, and want to thank you for this generous gift you give us all! Cheers and keep it up!!

  • hey who do you listen to?

  • dude, I love that you have the keys on the top. I can't wait to learn this tune!

  • dude

did u play that strict over a metronom

or is it like more free

  • This is very good. Great left hand work, very cool walking baseline.

Just for people who are learning the melody from this video, in the head there is supposed to be an F not a G for one of the notes.

  • This is really incredible man. Very, very well done. An excellent rendition of a classic tune.

  • I play piano in a jazz trio with a trumpet player and alto saxophonist. The biggest challenge I've had is walking bass lines smoothly with my left hand. I am also an upright bassist, so I have a good theory grounding. Still, it's tough to do. Great job here. OP is The Man, yeah. Another good resource for left hand walking is listening to the great jazz organists, particularly Groove Holmes.

  • This video SWINGS on a total other level compared with the video you did of T. Monk's Panonica.

Incredible! Again - as I asked in the T. Monk video - is it more of a stylistic thing for you to not swing when you make a stride accompaniment like that of when you played Panonica?

Anyway, sorry if I fumbled up the words - I can't stop listening to this!

  • Amazing technique...!!!

  • Would you call this progressive Latin jazz?

I just found you this morning over coffee and this was perfect. Now for a second cup.

  • Nice work. I like very much the walking bass line toghether with the melody. I found some Oscar Peterson embellishments somewhere, do you like his style?

  • @u0000 OP is one of my top resources.

  • I can't find words to describe your playing... NAUGHTY! Damn, i love it when you play with the rythm! 5/5

  • 7notemode, this made up my mind.

This is what I want to play to 100%, and if I ever get half your skills, be sure to get a video response with credits on your part!

    REALLY inspiring!

    Thanks a lot!

  • Hey Pehc90 -- Thanks! I'll be waiting for you post! :-)

  • How do you call this style of Jazz? It's not bebop for sure.

  • I would say a mixture of latin and swing.

  • y do you say it's not bebop? it's just bebop with a heavy spanish tinge. The song swing. Just because it has a repeating 2 bar progression for 6 measures.

  • Impressive piano prowess. A treat to watch and listen. Well done!

  • This was great, I enjoyed your interpretation of the head. The solo however, while rhythmically interesting, could have used a larger range of they keyboard, there were times I thought you stayed in the same middle-register for too long. But great overall, thanks for uploading

  • Do you have the sheets for any of these pieces that you are playing? You are truly amazing, it is so clearly to see that you have been playing for a long time. These jazz improvisations are simply gorgeous. I can't get bored listening to them! I always wanted to learn to play jazz but I am not able to do that as there aren't anyone in my country who could teach me. So I get to learn it by myself...eh! keep posting the jams!!!!

  • Thanks, SoulessTeddy. I have some tutorials posted. I only have one piece of sheet music posted on my website, transcribed by a YT friend. You may want to check it out.

  • how to do jazz, oh my finger

  • I love it

  • How Fun....way to go

  • Superb, as ever

    -Klav

  • As usual : wow !

  • Oh man I like how you change between fast and slow style

  • Absolutely awesome.

  • Yeah !

  • I watch all of your videos and I can only say that you are an excellent player and very generous to share with everybody. For old school hand independence I listen to Dave McKenna. Very underated

player with an uncanny sense of timing, rhythm, and melody.

  • McKenna is great with a walking bass.

  • Man I wish I could take lessons from someone like you.....any advice on how I could better my bebop?

  • TroubleinZION, check out my How to Swing videos. Vocalizing bebop recordings will make a huge difference in your timing.

  • i love your scale usage! very good! I wish i can be creative like that. I like the clashing chords too

  • Great work Tom. I especially love the part that starts at: 2:40. *****

  • Simply frigen amazing. You always challenge yourself and it never wins, however, "You Always Do". I did notice the trick photography. Someone one with a darker tan playing the right hand and who knows the guy on the left. Who's the guy without the socks...he's the real talent here.

  • Thanks, featureG

  • Outstanding arrangement and playing. The Tristano influence shows along with your own style. *****

  • Very very good. And I love the high quality video. Possibly strange question: How exactly to you get the camera at that angle?

  • abobhenry1, I put the camera on a tripod on a table in front of the keyboard. Thx.

  • Absolutely brilliant!

Nice unissons too! I'm wondering what kind of exercices I should do to improve that technique.

    The cyber keyboard looks good.

  • Thanks greob, For unison practice, play the heads (melody) of all the tunes you know in unison with a metronome clicking on the two and the four. Start slow. Bebop tunes work best.

  • This is amazing. Quite an entertainment. nice patch you got there. Mad skills. I love this piece and your version of it really got to me
