  • i do a fair bit of work on MSN :D i work for FSA

  • Oh you are so lucky to go to St Kevin's! I live in the western suburbs and am pretty smart so I want to try for the year 10 scholarship (year 8 now).

  • @flyboy172r what is the cost p/yr for st kevin's from year 10. at my school its slightly higher than $3000. st kevin's is the only school offering a PPL course Aus-wide. Any recommendations? Or do you know any training facilities/universities offering courses? I don't think my parents have the money :( thanks!

  • @GoingToBeAPilot1

Swinburne University of Technology offers a 3 year degree and diploma course, you will train for a CPL as part of it. Fees for Uni and the flying componant are covered by HECS and HELP and you will not have to start paying back the debt until you have work in which pay exceeds the threshold. All you need to do is make sure you study Maths and Physics in school and you ought to be fine.

  • @flyboy172r So I can do the PPL course at St Kevins (starts year 10 right?) and then CPL and Swinburne after graduation. But how much is is to go to St Kevins per year, and how much do I have to pay back to HECS and HELP? And the Swinburne course has more than one qualification right? Do you know where to get an airline transport course? Thanks.

  • @GoingToBeAPilot1

Skevs is an upfront cost, I think naught to PPL costs around $5-10 (changes every year). Swinburne is an incurred cost. You get more than one qualification, both academically and in the air (NVFR, Aerobatics Rating, SECIR or MECIR), and you also do all 7 of your ATPL exams therefore having your frozen ATPL licence which will become a full ATPL when you log 1500 hours.

  • @flyboy172r the frozen ATPL too?! is logging 1500 hours part of the course?

  • @GoingToBeAPilot1

Nah, that would be far too expensive for anyone mate lol. A frozen ATPL is basically a pass mark in all of the ATPL CASA exams, which leaves you to log the 1500 hours yourself. Someone with a frozen ATPL can have anywhere between the hours needed for a CPL and 1499.9 hours. Past that, you have your full ATPL. You log about 170ish hours as part of the course.

  • @flyboy172r how can i log 1500 hours then? isn't it in a commerical jet? like small jets or large ones?

  • @GoingToBeAPilot1

Well post-CPL you ought to be out looking to get hired as a pilot somewhere. Either get your MECIR or your Instructor rating and start logging hours. You can get the 1500 hours in any plane you want.

  • @flyboy172r how long is the ATPL course only? isn't it a few years? so you should start seeking airliner work before ATPL is completed? but what if you log 1500 in a cessna skyhawk or another small plane nothing like the 737s or A321s of Qantas, jetstar and virgin blue? maybe logging 1500 hours in another country is easier? im willing.

  • The video was pretty good. Though unfortunately you missed take off and touchdown. It looked like a nice sight seeing flight. Overall, nicely done. Yes, I'm a Real World Pilot.

  • I just happened to notice the fact you were flying solo, hence the take off and landing not being captured on video. Sorry mate.

  • Thanks for posting! What a view of the Mornington Peninsula! I used to watch the planes at Moorabin Airport when I was a kid of 6 or 7. A few years ago I had a strange experience; I dropped my normal analog radio and from then on it only had 1 channel: Moorabin aircraft radio traffic [I am serious] so it kept saying "weather report..." and "vector..."

Weird. Gibberish to me. Iam not a pilot.

  • tis is aload of bollox

  • Translator please...

  • @flyboy172r

    terrible landing

  • @kmbomber

I'm sure you could have done better on flight simulator.

  • @flyboy172r do you think you could get training at Xavier College like you did at St Kevin's College. I'm quite interested in becoming a pilot

    and bollox means testicles!

  • @flyboy172r hi there. do you think i would be able to get my licence at Xavier College like you did at St Kevins? I'm quite interested in being a pilot someday. thanks oh and bollox means testicles!

  • @kawasaki2948

G'day mate. I'm really not 100% sure if Xavier does, or has any plans to offer something like what I did at Skevs. Having said that though, you can get a leg-up during school without being part of a group...you can look in to starting some of the coursework or doing a TIF with a flying school independantly. If you're at Xavier, drop on down to Swinburne just down the road and pick up some info on the Bachelor of Aviation.

  • @flyboy172r thanks mate! you never know, i could be an amazing pilot for QANTAS' A380's oneday because of you!!!! ha ha

  • fuck yeah man awesome shit!!!!

    i do training at moorabbin,

cant wait to get my solo license !

  • Just don't do what the student pilot did today...

  • When i saw this vid i recognised u from school, im also doing the aviation program at stkevins

  • Are you doing the PPL this year, starting the GFPT, or doing the subject in year 10?

  • starting the GFPT

  • ahhh thats awesome, are you on myspace or anything? this conversation is VERY slow :P

  • yeaah im a student pilot :P where are you up to?

  • I finished my PPL April of this year. This flight was me and my dad.

  • i fly WIH, i was getting ready to go flying, i just saw it taxiing past :)

  • Thats a C152 is it? Are you a student pilot?

  • ooo i saw VH-MSN the other week when i was flying! ah how exciting :)

  • What were you doing - and what were you flying?

  • Good work mate! Ya can't beat bein up in the air huh?I've been training for my CPL rotary-wing out of moorabbin airport, it can get busy but like you say the tower does a good job. We don't get as much traffic as you fixed wing guys though.

  • I would expect so...Even if you only have 2 pads. When I took my mum up, (not this flight) she got really spooked by you guys! I tried to explain to her that your height is 300 ft below us, she wouldnt listen!

  • you got your PPL from GFS?

  • Yeah.

  • i went solo on EOQ

  • I havn't flown that one before. The longest solo I have flown was in EOX and it went for 3.2 (Nav 9 - YARA). This flight was 1.3, but a good 20 min was spent on the ground.

  • you reckon that was bad... i was there on 18th august at 1pm in the circuit in VH-HMH (that bright orange/yellow warrior) with 4 other aircraft and they pulled the runway change as we turned finals... you probably saw the mess (and heard the ATC madness :-) nice vid, nice co-incidence too :)

  • I suppose they cant be blamed, after all, we of all peole should know how fast the wind can change!! ;)

  • it was a good experience - i'm just short of gfpt so a runway change from base was a good learning experience!

the atc guys down there do a great job

  • Yeah, the tower deals with probably upwards of 1000 Takeoffs and Landings in a work day, they work very hard. The majority of traffic is on the East Runways, and have started to use the West a lot, mostly for landings. Especially if it is 35L from Carrum, the straight in approach! GMH to 17L is good, but often busy.

  • That is just plain crazy! Wow, I wanna start flying now!

  • thats awesum, i gotta start flying at moorabin soon

  • Depends on what day you're going on...This day was horrible for traffic, there were 10 planes trying to take off at once. I spent 20min on the ground.

  • aw cmon on mate it was your best be posotive.

  • Ive made better landings than that!
