The Pacers played the Lakers for the NBA championship in 2000. Larry Bird was the Pacers coach and he screwed us, the Pacers, by playing his buddy Chris Mullin over Jalen Rose. Mullin was a good player in his day with Golden State, but he was an old, washed up player with the Pacers. All Mullin did was get beat defensively and brick three pointers. Jalen was in his prime and could have helped slow down Kobe. Shame on you Bird!!!
And dont you find it interesting that CBS network in 1991 was the first FULL nba season that was contracted to be veiwed. Bird and magic's many games were prerecorded and you couldn't see them throughout the country. To see Wilt you had to go to the game or wait for the 2 telivised games annually.
@fivebadkids Bird's all around skills made him a better player than jordan. One on one Jordan was superior, but the game is 5 on 5 and Bird was a better passer, rebounder, shooter and inspirational leader. Jordan gets the nod for scoring, dunks and defense but you can build a better team with Bird.
@8MunchenBayern8 Yes, Bird better than Jordan to build a team around. Bird's court vision and unselfish play improved the players on his team. He demonstrated this at every level. Jordan had to be screamed at by coach Phil Jackson to pass the ball, to have confidence in his teammates. As great as Jordan was Bird was better, more versatile and his teammates were inspired by his play. Jordan dominated after the NBA expanded and the teams were weaker. He learned how to win by watching Bird & Magic
@8MunchenBayern8 If basketball were played like tennis, you'd have no disagreement from me. Bird's winning percentage in games he played was just over 70%-the highest % of any player ever in the NBA. Jordan was a close 68%. Bird averaged more assists per game than Jordan and had more triple doubles. He played when the NBA teams were better. Bird was a better team player, Jordan a better individual player (scorer + defender), but the game is 5 on 5
@8MunchenBayern8 Larry Bird in terms of skill to Michael is superior not athleticism which is only 1/10 of the game as LB showed us. Magic knows, LB was the only player in jordan's era that he never beat legit. The way Bird played was so hard that he ruined his back. His last 2years his numbers dropped because he didn't play 1/3 of the minutes he used to. MJ was the most popular not the GOAT. One of the Greatest. Google if you want proof :airjudden2.tripod.com/jordan/rank.htm
@mrho4speed Dido. 2 count em' 2 of MJ's coaching had to fight his whining self to get him to do better. MJ NEVER faired well in the 80's against the greatest teams. 90's ball was nothing compared to the prev decade. 7 out of the top 20 wining-nest teams in the history of nba came out of the 80's. What about the 90's? The bulls...and uh the trailblazers 2 seasons and the suns 1 and the jazz 2 seasons oh the supersonics 1 season wow!!!! Yeah MJ greatest ever against mediocrity...
@usnate1 Couldn't agree more. Not Jordans fault he played against weaker teams, but thats the facts.I live in Chicago and loved watching Jordan, his athleticism and tenacity were tremendous. Bird's team approach made his teammates better at every level-look how he won at ISU. Bird turned a 29 win 53 loss Celtic team to 61 wins his rookie year! Greatest turnaround in NBA history--Duncans 34 game improvement is misleading - David Robinson, Shawn Elliot and 1 more starter had season ending injuries
@8MunchenBayern8 Then you can't count or see or you've seen too many nike, gatorade and wheaties commercials to convince you that jordan was the greatest. Jordan in the 90's only. And he was only 1 of the greats....Jordan took notes from LB not the other way around.
****reggie*** was the best at coming off screens shooting the 3 he also was a good cutter with his long arms sweeping towards the basket
***larry** scored a lot of hustle lay ups, was good at 8-12 short range pull up shots he also was the best at catching and shooting from anywhere on the floor
He's aged a little in the last few years, looked really young when he took over in 1998 and to today.
But you can count on one thing you have some greta basketballl nouse there, he'll bring you back, sounds like you're not loyal follwers of true greatness Indianins!
It's funny, because they try to shift your attention to the past. Great. That's why we have ESPN classic and youtube. What about the future. How about runnin' all the thugs and problem-children out of town? How about getting a true leader that can lead by example (JO ain't cuttin' it).
You're either with us or against us. We used to supply arms to the Taliban, er, ahem, Stephen Jackson and Ron Artest. We have to fight against the Axis of Evil... you know, the Pistons, Bulls and Lakers. Someone tell Reggie Miller that Barack Obama wants to get back his big Dumbo ears.
