i just wasted 23456789 minutes trying to find every step, then puting the steps in order, then watching them......all for bread that looks like shit? wow...i was looking for some nice fluffy french bread. i think ill just keep buying them at safeway till i find an actual good video......p.s french bread from FRANCE looks nothing like that....ughhhh
These "expertvillage" videos are simply Bizarre!!! Take advice from wagzel, and visit thefreshloaf, if you have even a remote interest in creating any actual edible bread.
Whenever I see the Expert Village logo, I automatically think Village Idiot. They should adopt the slogan "Expert Village Idiots - Everything from bad knife skills, bad Indian food to bad bread. Teaching you how to screw things up since 1999"
I do have to say this video is pure bullshit. If 'Expert' Brandon Sarkis went to France and tried to pass these baguette's off as authentic he'd be beaten within an inch of his life. He is so wrong it's untrue.
Wake up Brandon, if you are a professional chef I'll eat my shorts. You are a disgrace. Learn to cook/bake.
I spend every summer in France and eat one baguette per day (except Sundays when the boulangerie is closed) and this thing that you call a true French baguette I've never seen before. The outside it dried out and nearly burned. A French baguette isn't this hard until the next day. When you buy it the outside is crisp but you can take a bite right out of it. You'd chip a tooth on yours.
i'm not a fan of leaving negative comments specialy if the poster is just practicing or just an amatuer, but when u represent EXPERT village and start the segment saying "I AM GOING TO SHOW U HOW TO MAKE REAL BAGUETTE" then i excpect a very informative and technical video...i make baguettes at work and it took me almost a full year to get the hang of it and that baguette u showed us my friend was almost insulting
I really enjoyed watching you make these. I know they're not the same as what you buy in a store, but isn't that the beauty of home baking? thank you - I'm going to try my own now :)
Brandon, I have been baking for more than 10 years now. Your video up to the second rise was great. I like the fact that you use your hands and your instructions are very easy to follow. The only thing I disagree is the fact that you omit the last kneading process and not allowing the dough to rest for the 3rd time. As you can see the crust is way too thick and the center is not airy but rather, rubbery. The finished product is not uniform either. Nonetheless, BRAVO... !! Thanks for posting.
Please read this because it acually works!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1.Put both of your hands on your chest2.Think of someone thatyou like......3.Tommorow that person will ask you out or say i love you.4.Heres the catch just send to 5 more videos
I don't know where this guy learned to bake, but he has no place trying to teach people how to make French bread. There is not one thing about that recipe that is right. Well, the oven temp is right, but even a broken clock is right twice a day.

It's nothing like a baguette, it's more of an overcooked panini. The ingredients are wrong, they're mixed improperly, the timings are all wrong (seriously, 3 hours of rising? what is this, the eighteenth century?), the cutting and pulling is hilariously wrong (what's with the croissant folding??), and he seems to have completely forgotten to slice the top of the bread. Not to mention that you should use an electric mixer which gives way better results than mixing by hand...
I don't want to offend anyone but seriously, i'm french and if that is a baguette, well i don't know what i'm eating every morning ? I have the chance to don't have to prepare my baguette myself, was just curious to find how to prepare different kind of bread..and if i can advise someone is to not try this recipe, all is wrong !!
Generally i'm cool and understable when i'm wactching other's video but that...."That the sign of a true french baguette " : no way, nobody will buy or eat this here.
I'm sorry, this does not look like a baguette apart from the "bread" is long and slim.
Also, watching the rest of these instructions I really wonder who taught him to bake bread. Painful to watch. And I'm sorry for saying this because I try to give constructive criticism but there's just so many mistakes made here that I wouldn't know where to begin.
In this series of videos, this guy manages to do LITERALLY everything wrong. And he is so proud of the end result! I feel so sorry for him. It is embarrassing to watch.
That was painful, every step was done wrong. Your dough was overmixed, your bulk ferment was wayyy too long (hence the leathery skin), your scaling and shaping was pathetic, did you even give the dough another rest after that? The only thing you almost got right was the temperature of the oven, I doubt you used steam in your oven though, hence the unappealing and horribly coloured and textured crust. Your crumb was way off too. Advice to anyone that sees this: never bake like this.
this has to be one of the worst instructional vids on youtube....that bread is disgusting and its unfortunate that ur actuallly trying to teach people....

This recipe DOES work. I'm working on a forum that I do where I'm going to link to this recipe, in the order which it's supposed to be in. Please send me a message if you're interested where I'm going to link it.
I also tried the Levain french baguette recipe, and it's not as good as this one. This is the best one out there.
i tried and this WORKS, though my oven is not big enough and I have to flip the doughs during the baknig. got to turn the temperature down a little bit next time.
Expert Village please take this off, I doubt this guy has put the research in to know this is not a good baguette.
