When I heard about that kid in Utah the other day who planned to blow up his school - I said to myself - "there's another one of those taxi driver babies."
Thanks for the post! Amazing writer...I could never equal something so great, even though I wish to be a screenplay writer, someday. He obviously spent countless hours on it -- perfectly condesing his emotions into an amazing film.
0.35 - per Schrader. That woman who took a shot a the President (Ford) was Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme, one of Charlie Manson's most faithful Family members. It happened in Sept 1975 in Sacramento. She got 25 - life and got out of Carswell FMC about 5 years ago.
@krakenwave Squeaky never shot at Ford. She pulled a gun on him but was pounced on by Secret Service agents. Only three weeks later, Sarah Jane Moore did manage to get off a shot at Ford; her shot missed when a bystander knocked her arm up as she was aiming.
Right. It was a bit of a farce really IIRC. Wasn't it all first hatched by Squeaky and Sandra Goode starting some enviro group called ATWA in Sacramento and sending threats to CEOs and Congress etc? And naming themselves after colours and then Sandy dropping out to do some other shit?
The story he tells of the young man who thought the movie was about him. I think the pathology is part and will always be a part of the modern world. The horror is bred by this world, not a film.
for those who still thinking that this movie ain't a masterpiece I have to say somethin for you : fuck you coz this is one of the best movies ever made thanks goodfellaOS

no no no, the ending should be fantasy! don't these people take any responsibility for John Hinkley? as good as the movie is, it has no moral centre if the ending is real.
yes it does.. if Travis would have shot the senator, he'd be viewed as a violent villain. instead he failed and ran.. and complete his frustration in killing the pimps, johns..etc. and he is viewed as a hero in the end.. that's the moral center of our society... i think Cho would have viewed as a hero too.. would he have killed all the drugdealers, pimps bad elements in a city instead of firing at random at a school..
Great making of, and I loved the comments from Schrader. When I was a senior in high school, I started getting into Scorsese, watching most of his work in chronological order. When I got to Taxi Driver, I was perplexed. Why was he acting so strangely? It flew over my head and I think I understood that. Three years later, I spent 6 months by myself in an apartment off-campus at a university with no friends and no acquaintances.

That's because Taxi Driver is Scorsese's elite work and one of Hollywoods greatest films. Hope this helps you understand :)
