Addressing the pads, if you look at euro sports and american sports you can see differences. Look at american football then a look at rugby. Same with field hockey. Hockey blades are irrelevant because you could add the dangers of a swung fh stick. I am an american, I have stated this so others dont say by comments are biased from my country. I personally believe field hockey requires more skill. Yes ice hockey may take place on ice, but field hockey players use only one side of the stick making their stick control better. They also have more rules such as the ball can't touch a players foot unlike the puck in ice hockey. You are required to score in the circle often it us crowded with players making it difficult to score.

I hate it when people say that field hockey is easy. Its definitely not. You have to have way more ball control in field hockey than in ice hockey(not saying ice hockey is easy). Plus with ice hockey you have tons of padding. In field hockey you have shin guards and a mouth guard. ice hockey pucks arent as hard as a field hockey ball. And the field hockey ball isnt always on the ground. It comes up, and if you get hit with one, you'd better hope youre lucky enough to not go to the hospital.....

Because when a 250lb guy drives his shoulder into your chest at center ice, you better HOPE you have padding. Also they shoot that puck an upwards of 90mph at any level. A frozen rock solid peice of rubber, that breaks bones if not stopped by padding. As well as razor sharp blades at the bottom of your feet, check out the Clint Malarchuk video.

I agree field hockey balls are harder, but they are shot at such low speeds as compared in ice hockey, an ice hockey puck is shot at around 80mph on average and the record speeds are 106.1 mph whilst field hockey balls are shot at a moderate speed of around 30mph (being VERY optimistic about that)

Not to say that ice hockey doesnt hurt, even with all that padding getting slammed against the side hurts, but having played both, I have seen more proper injuries (broken bones, dislocations, reconstructed cheek bone, severe cuts and concussion, even an emergency air lift straight of the astro) involved with field hockey. Worst Ive seen on ice is a bloodied nose,bruises and concussion. Contact does happen alot, even if it technically shouldent, and balls freuentley are at dangerous heights.

Awesome ball control especially the one where he is circling around and takes ball between his feet. We did not do this when I was growing up in the 80's as a 360 turn it was foul then. It will be interesting to see how players adapt to the latest rule that allow stopping of aerial ball with stick above shoulders (for PC's only I guess).
