This account is correct. toivonen set a time that would put him on the 3rd row on the grid. These group b cars incredibly fast a wiuld have had more grip than the f1 cars of the day
Actually, Toivonen really did that 6th place and for those guys who don't believe, I have to say another crazy thing: that time was made in the FIRST LAP... The Delta S4 Tour de Corse was the ultimate rally car of its time, as the 205 T16. But well, for that people who don't believe in nothing, there is a thing called Wikipedia and lots of videos here, on Youtube... Nice video! Greets!
this car had more then 612hp in tarmac trim, 480+ in gravel trim.... less then 1000kg! 0-100km or 0-62mph in 2.5sec. max speed...only god knows! the chassis is tubular, and carbon fib. the f1 of the era, had 1000hp+ but only in the last 2000-1500 revs... and far less torq then a group b rally car! this car was supercharged and turbocharged, there was no lag and had a great power output in a great range of revs! they also use slick tires.... so don't you think that it's a myth, it's the true!!
@luiscarlosnoddy you utter fool! do you honestly believe a rally car is as quick as an f1? this is a silly myth.
the f1 cars would be doing nearly 200mph in places,an s4 would prob max out at 130mph.therefore would have to be far quicker around the bends.that is impossible.modern rally cars are much quicker that group b cars but they are nowhere near in the league of f1
you and anyone else who believes this myth obviously knows utter fuck all about cars
@markandrach If you don't believe it, take a look at times in Estoril done by Toivonen... Don't suppose, look at the real information. It's very easy to speak without knowing... You don't know anything about cars and said fool to another that it seems to know something. You only look races of F1, be happy with your 1% of the motor world ;)
Tyres are completely different, and it looks like you're not driving with rally tyres, racing slicks operate at slip angles of < 10 degrees whereas even on tarmac rally tyres will go up to 30-40 degrees.
sorry, just looked it up and the qualifying was dry. I dont think its possible for even that rally car to come close to an F1 car, especially in qualifying. The F1 cars also used qualifiers back then, which were 3-4 seconds faster than the race slicks they used in race trim, which makes it even less likely.
"but still I would be at least 10 secs behind the F1 top-10."
You mean compared to real life time or time made in rFactor with F1 car? First one makes no sense since the track is way too inaccurate for such compare.
In any case, that's WAY too fast I believe. Fastest "tintops" in that era were Group C sports-prototypes, which were about +/- 7-10 seconds slower than F1 times in the mid '80s. Such as Porsche 962. And these cars had more power, more downforce and less weight than S4.
Yeah compared to real life F1 speed. As far as I know there is not any mid-80s F1 car for RFactor, but if there is some might want to try compare times between RFactor F1 and real life F1 (1986).
I don't know anything about accurancy of this track but it seems to be "okay" :D

Then again, you're not Toivonen are you? Or would you like to say you're as good as Schumacher if you beat his real life time in a game?

@zipito link me to the proof of this then.it is a MYTH.group A rally cars were doing quicker times than gpB within a cpl of years.
if you honestly think a lancia s4 designed for gravel and tight roads can keep up with a 1300hp f1 car,you are living in a dream world.
go on any respected motorsport forum and pose the question there.you will be told the same as i have just said.
watch videos of senna and co from the mid 80's.

But I thought the myth was accepted because the 1985 f1 qualifying sessions were wet in 1985?

"ok-ish" is not enough :) maybe if it was laserscanned like iRacing, but then vehicle physics would have to be quite top notch too.

For the last group B season in 1986 they tuned the lancia s4 to 600bhp+. What are the specs of this one in this game? best car ever
ZClipze 3 years ago
The car in this game is said to be 433kw / 580bhp version.
