Mayhem created black metal, thus there was no black metal in '82. The inspirators were there, but the guitar and vocal style wasn't defined til mayhem (a bit before pure fucking Armageddon and deathcrush).
Venom and Bathory inspired black metal, they didn't create it. A genre is defined by its sound - that sound was made by Euronymous and Dead. No one played like that before Euronymous and Dead created not only the visual aesthetic of black metal but the vocal style as well. Venom wrote a song called Black Metal but that doesn't mean they played black metal. The genre was named after the song, not the song after the genre because the genre didn't exist yet.

Honestly, the sound quality on this isn't entirely that bad. I mean, sure, it's muffled as all hell and the vox are way too loud. But, if you spend enough time with the rawer side of black metal, you can train your ears to pick out the other instruments playing (yes, even the bass which is actually quite loud here). Man, I love these covers.

Actually, Euronymous did both the vox and the guitarwork on Pure Fucking Armageddon. However, the fellow singing in this video appears to be Messiah.

I think it only looks blonde because of the video quality. The hightened light and contrast gives the illusion that his hair is blonde.

Maniac, and quite a few other Norwegian Black Metal musicians are naturally blond. They just dye their hair for the effect. So, it's possible that Euronymous did this as well.

Well....it's weird, because the singer movement makes me think this is real, but...it's hard to know, since there are sometimes when the guitar does not fit, and I can't see the drummer either.
Can't comment on bass because it's inaudible.

I argree with everything but atilla's vocals don't suck, they're awesome not as good as Dead's but awesome. and also Maniac's vocals were good until he fuckin destroyed them by cronic chainsmoking
but anyway is there any vids or bootlegs with kittil on vocals. He's the only mayhem vocalist I've never heard

hes on the deathcrush album. depending on which version you have he sings on "Pure fuckin armageddon" (could be labelled as Wierd (Manheim) because on the version i have both the songs are on one track.) and then Witching hour (venom cover)

I love Maniacs vocals..Both new and old..I like the old ones becuase of the echoing screams...but I like the newer one becuase his vokills are so fucking inhuman!Attila is a good vocalist..but not for Mayhem..his vocals are too operatic
