yeah but 400 bucks isnt that a little pricey for a double barrel pistol? i almost think its worth it, ive been looking for a 410 45 pistol with a shell ejector because ive noticed with those cobray leinads, its a real bitch to unload the shells and this has a shell ejector, and with the leinad you have to manually switch barrels and this does it for you i am truely amazed, and i want want but the price is braking my balls..do they make this gun in a brake open in the down position instead of up?
I purchased A Snake Slayer today and put a box and a half through it already. What an excellent little Shooter! I bought it over the Taurus Judge which I felt is too bulky for the job. I'll use this little shooter for snakes and close quarter defense. It's very well built and accurate as well. Bond Arms sure made a winner with this one!
Very in-depth and informative- I'm definitely getting one of these the first chance I can as a backup, or hell even just my carry altogether. Great video!
MUTHAFUCKA! You mess wit that thang & you be goin' home own the range in a hurry in a ziplock bag, cuz. Don't bother callin' a pair of medics cuz you be goin' straight 2 refrigerater heaven, homey. Fantastic review, and a great video. You had said that you and your friends were curious about the recoil, but you never gave your conclusion. What is your conclusion on the recoil?
Just wanted to let you know that this review single-handedly convinced me to get one of these derringers. I chose the Century 2000 model. Thanks for the review.
I just got back from the range after shooting my new Bond Arms Cowboy Defender for the very first time and all I can say is "WOW"!!. I love this gun!. I ordered the extended rosewood star grips from Bond and have no problem at all in handling while shooting this weapon with one hand. The Winchester supreme elite PDX personal defense ammunition I was using leaves a nice pattern on paper targets but did start to get a bit flakey after 10 feet which would be expected with a 3" barrel firing 2 1/4"
I own a snake slayer with a 3 inch barrel, and I enjoy shooting it. It does actually feel like your holding a chunk of metal; its high quality! The only thing it the small handle(which you can buy a larger one if you wanted).
@zombieturtle01 why not??? at close range where most situations occur , the 410 federal, or PDX will be more than enough. I carry a snake slayer 4 with both 410 000 buck, and gold dot 250 grain 45 hollow points. even if the 45 does not expand due to the short barrel, a 45 cal bullet still makes a very big hole. at night when the bad guys come out, and you cannot see the sights, the buck shot will compensate for shaky hands. the snake slayer is a good choice for CCW.
@MAAANVE I have the Bond Texas Defender which is a little smaller than the snake slayer but shoots the same ammo: .410/ .45 lc. The barrels are rifled inside.
@MAAANVE It doesn't give much stability but my friend's gun has a very small amount of rifling at the very end of the barrel. It's not much and it's very shallow. It has to be there or this gun would be a short-barrelled shotgun (illegal). Why is everyone calling it the "Long Colt" now. Firearms manufacturers are even doing it. It's slang and incorrect. The proper term is .45 Colt.
I have Ranger in the same caliber options, iv had it for about a year maybe a little less, this past saturday i put 30 or so shells out of it and im tellin ya after about 20 shots the hands start to get sore. I love that little sucker not to mention the holy shit factor when people first see it. This is a in ur face kinda firearm with the buckshot. Nice review and .45.
this was an awesome review. cant beat made in texas bond arms. i cant wait to pick up my bond arms ranger. from what i gather from what ive read on the bond arms guns, you have to compensate for the top/bottem barrel firing, ive heard that the sights are only good for on of the 2 barrels, then the other barrel either ends up high or low. i dont mind either way cause i plan on using it for conceal carry, but for smaller targets(other than humans) im unsure of how it will work
@mrstraightshot Sorry mate, you mentioned that in the clip but i had already sent the message. Love the guns though, would love to get a Bond Arms or Public Defender. Handguns which can fire .410 are the dogs bollocks, which is a good thing.
One more thing MrStraightShot, has anyone said you look like Hugh Hefner, that is also a cool thing.
Cool little gun. The folks of FLA. better arm themselves....and quick. All kind of Pythons, Green Mambas and King Cobras are spotted in numerous places throughout FLA.
I just bought mine and the recoil is not that bad to be shooting 7 1/2 shot. would this be good for close self defence or what is recomended? Buckshot? the bird shot will tear a target up just like shown on video. I want a 45 acp also.
@mandograss if you shot someone in the face with the Number 7 it would mess up their day, but federal makes some good handgun loads in # 4 ,and 000 buck, either one would be good. for inside the house, use the #4 outside for protection, use the 000 and 45 LC is a good man stopper as well.
Excellent video. These guns are built like a tank. I have the .45 Colt/.410 but live in an area with no snakes so I am getting the .44 SPL barrel & will use that. Gun is solid and well built and looks nearly indestructable. Bottom barrel shoots point of aim at 10'. Top barrel shoots high. You need to practice disengaging that safety too or all you will hear is a loud click and not a bang!
I thought this video was very well done, I thought it was very professional and it was full of great, interesting, very useful information. I have always thought Derringers were very interesting and I liked seeing the well-built craftsmanship of the Bond Arms Snake Slayer. I appreciate fine craftsmanship and taking pride in your work. Are the .410 triple ot buckshot for the Snake Slayer Derringer hard to come by? To me they seem to be a "wildcat" round and hard to find and subsequently expensive
I notice a lot of you girls want this as a lady gun. I would recommend some of the more lighter weight pistols, like a Kel-Tec P3AT or a Ruger LCP instead. More shots, less recoil, lighter and thinner to carry around.
@muaythai193 the most damage??? the Winchester 000 buck shot in the 3 inch shell, has 5 pellets. I think this round would be the most ferocious, it is a bit punishing to fire out of the snake slayer.
The S.S. Is WAY overpriced... I'd take a Judge Public Defender (some found with a lower price point) over The S.S. any day. The new Judge P.D. is only a hair larger, but carries an extra 3 rounds... Not to mention is a hell of a lot more fun, and easier on your hand...
The Snake Slayer is the only gun on the market you can touch for their price range in a .45cal. You say the Judge is only a "hair" bigger....your crazy!! Its the difference between carrying a cannon and a sub-compact. The Judge is over kill and waay to big. Tell me whats not gunna drop in a everyday self or home defence situation after two hits from a 000' buck .410 slug or a .45 lc?? 5 Shots is overkill for 99% of the situation most people are defending themselves from. But thats just me!
I have the Texas defender with it and I also have the 4.25" long .410/.45colt barrel. Ive shot .357's, .38 +Ps, some cheap .45 colt JHP, 3" #4 shot .410, and 2 ½" #6 shot .410 with it. By far the least comfortable to shoot are the .410 shot shells. Far worse than any 45 ACP I have shot. The 3 pistol rounds where not bad.
Yes you can get a .357 mag/38 spl. barrel for it. Also .45ACP, .45GAP, .44spl, 10mm, .40s&w, 9mm, .32h&r, and .22lr all in 3" barrels. I may have missed 1 and I think they use to make a .44mag barrel for it.
Thanks for the review. I am in the market for a little snake charmer of some sort and I was debating between a little .22 with rat shot or something along the lines of the snake slayer or Texas defender. (same gun, shorter barrel) Your review was very well done and informative. I hope to see more like it in the future.
I own the Snakeslayer and it is an incredible gun. The thing kicks like a mule. Own a 1911 and unlike this vid, the kick on the snakeslayer feels like double! You should see the flames this thing shoots at night with such a short barrel.
Absolutely no offense intended by this, but having owned this gun before, the kick from this gun is pretty tremedous, especially if you've never owned a gun. I would NOT recommend this as a first gun. Don't get me wrong, it's a great gun, and a TON of fun to shoot... if you can handle it.
Well done. That last test with the bird shot was LOL impressive as he blew the target plumb off the mounting board! As a close range social work gun I'm in.
Found the video to be very informative and useful in my selection of the correct ammunition. Enjoyed the look and the efficiency of the snake slayer, was a very well-made looking weapon. Looking forward to any additional new instructional videos in the future. Thanks, mrstraightshot!
Obviously, a short-range weapon. The trigger pull on these is fairly robust. Having said that, you only need to pull it once for most targets. I find mine very pocketable with most of my jeans. The firepower is awesome. It's a hand-cannon, a sawed-off .410 shotgun.
Hi the Snake slayer is one of the best guns you could own ,I purchased one and very glad i did great quality that is hard to find.I also own the hat.,well i was in WalMart shopping ,when a guy almost stabbed me with a fishing pole in his basket,he then looked up and saw my Bond Arms hat ,he then said to me that I was the last guy in the store that he wanted to screw with.this is no joke!! i smiled and said no problem to the guy, the hat packs as good of a punch the snake slayer.thanks Sleepy

Awesome demo. Best I've seen not only on this handgun, but on youtube as a whole. This guy needs to do lots more!!
