"why believe in a god that isn't necessary?" I've never thought of it that way. interesting. Even as an atheist, i still find the 'first cause' line of thought compelling... still thinking about that one.
if some aliens believed in the exact same dogma as one sect of human religion, i'd still like to converse with the _other_ aliens. I'm sure they don't all agree!
