Today's Generation: LADY GAGA= "A GENIUS", "A REVOLUTION", "A FORCE"...
Older generation: LADY GAGA= "OVER HYPED", "A RIPOFF/COPYCAT", "UNORIGINAL"
I'm proud to be part of the latter...although maybe I am part of the former...because I do see her as a "revolution" in that she's just gone backwards to before the music industry went downhill. But otherwise wouldn't have been anything special. Gaga is LUCKY that she became famous among millions of other HORRIBLE "singers" and "musicians".
I'm shocked to see all the Lady Gaga comments.....Lady Gaga was just a drooling, pamper shitting infant when this song came out...so give it a rest OK! This song holds a special part of my childhood because it introduced me to a whole new world of feelings and expression....and it eventually led to me picking up a guitar and making some awful noise of my own!...lol...
hey music fans, Please check out Lava Lamp Review! its my new music blog were I discuss albums from the 60's to 90's. I go back in time to talk about records that people may have forgotten or might not know about these days that should be heard. Please check it out and subscribe! could use the support :)
wow, i can only recall how influential this song was when i was a scum back in the 80s. This song talked about cocaine abuse years before it turned into Crack, or needles. The lyrics stand on their own.
I can hear the video director now, "Hmm, we have this stock b movie footage that we can throw together on the cheap. Now what else can we add to make it a real video? I know, a crappy skeleton puppet!:D" Luckily, Siouxsie is Siouxsie ... and just freaking awesome & unforgettable.
Ok... why is EVERY fucking comment mentioning GaGa if she's hated so fucking much? Seriously? Rock fans hate on Bieber, Rap fans hate on anyone who's current and isn't "street" enough. FUCK the HATE. I LOVE GaGa, I LOVE Siouxsie. I have BOTH on my iPod. Music is supposed to bring people together, not tear them apart. Especially music like both this AND GaGa's. Jesus jumpin' jimminy cricket crack corn christ people... the internet needs to die off already, it's spread so much hate...
@shanomacbry Just ignore it darling. I love all kinds of music. Sadly some people have to categorize everything, and keep it in a tight little box. Just know that not everyone is that way. I like Gaga and I like Siouxsie and I like Black metal.
@metalgodess81 Thank the Lord, someone with sense on this video. I swear every other video that I go to of a different genre than Lady gaga feels like they have to justify their taste in music by bashing her or some other pop artist. It seems pretty teenagerish to me. Makes me not want to be associated with other fans at the videos.
@ashestoyoursoul I've noticed that as well. I think it all boils down to people needing to feel exclusive, or rather, better than others. I agree..... it is quite juvenile. The anonymity of the internet automatically, seems to turn people into douche bags. Meaning they say things on here, that they wouldn't normally say in "real life".
25 years ago, the 80s college radio scene called this "modern music." I wondered then what they would call it when in the future when it wasn't "modern" anymore.
proper popular music. the whole ensemble is progressive, intelligent yet accessible. plus siouxsie is not a stageschool airhead singing some aged sex offenders' shit lyrics. a real person doing what they wanted to do which seems a little scarce these days. as mentioned previously - i think lady gaga sucks-like one good song??? nothing on satb. too many producers trying to make money on flimsy ideas. too scared to do anything new-wankers. oh and susie's image is much better than contemporaries
Ok, i know what about is that song, but could SHUT THE FUCK UP and listen the song?, it's great and i understood it is about pompeii IN THE FIRST TIME YOU SAID IT.
Does anyone remember seeing a 1996 straight to video movie starring Anthony Michael Hall whcih featured this song and the band performing it...the movie which was incredibly lame was called "Out of Bounds"...
people tend to forget the meaning of this video... which is cocaine. Your city lies in dust means: Los Angeles. So it was written & souxsie sang it, read the lyrics again
@cme98 The meaning of this video is...........The demise and ultimate discovery of the city Pompeii which was destroyed by mount Vesuveus in the year 79A.D. ........when she was younger she visited the site which had a huge impact on her......There you go, two history lessons for you. I encourage you to read up on it, and the orgin of this song in her biography........
@MrBepruitt Not trying to say your interpretation's wrong, or to argue w/you or w/cme98, but there's also a strong possibility that the lyric is about more than one thing: that is, that she's using the destruction of Pompeii as a metaphor for the out-of-control drug habit of a friend.
Since the lyrics fit snugly in both interpretations, it feels like more than coincidence - like she chose her words deliberately to convey 2 meanings: so that listeners hear one thing, and friends hear another.
I got to see them live in '87 and it was amazing! Cameo Theater in Miami with Julian Cope and Midnight Oil..what a show! just being there made you Cool!
Siousxie was one of the Bromley Contingent and a groupie for the sex pistols. What sets her apart is that the content of her music is the message of punk covered in talent and musical aesthetics very much unlike the band she was following.
Everyone should see the Pompeii exhibition. I like what they did here, really innovative for mid eighties...breaking away from the UK pigeon holers...

@evanbellen I think your awesome!!! I watched your Pompeu Bellusci @ Westfield Garden State Plaza video I enjoyed the view and the "silence" you provided Italiano??? Thanks for reply.
She is absolutely awsome, I heard this in 1985 and I was 18yrs old and a black female with a blue mohawk (u.k.blak @ that time)She was one of the headliners in the first lalapalooza. But dont u love the creatures Fury Eyes(she and Budgie)
When I first heard this song in 1985, I had thought it was about the aftermath of nuclear war, and how great cities of the world would lie in dust, under a cold, dark sky.
Does earth need protection from humans? or do we humans need protection from earth? Oh.. I dunno........ just ask the people who died at Pompeii, or Sendai Japan.
I'm 18 and I didn't recognize anything about this music until I listened to it, then immediately remembered a bunch of memories from when I was little because my parents listened to it.
I LOVE Siouxsie!!!!.... And to all you fans, you MUST check out THE other great rock band with a female singer, BELLADONNA.... Just watch their haunting video of "Let There Be Light " the song they did with legendary composer MICHAEL NYMAN based on his music of Oscar-winning movie "The Piano"... Nyman himself plays piano on it!!!... search for "nyman belladonna" here on youtube and you'll find it!!....:-)
Must be the only song inspired by the eruption of Vesuvius in AD 79 that buried the towns of Pompeii and Herculaneum. And the only song to mention 'praying at the Lares' (household gods) shrine'. Respect to a brilliant and clever band.
@Leonapedia Yes, good to see that someone saw the Pompeii allusion. Those are the plaster casts of the cavities in the mud and ash made by human bodies, now decomposed:"We found you hiding/We found you lying,/Choking on the dirt and sand."
@Leonapedia It's very rare for a rock band to deal with ancient history. I like Siouxsie even more for that. It's tiring to hear only about alcoohol, babes and clubbing.
Jewish Beauty.
