@jgmcevoy this was the B side to the jilted john single, I played drums on it, the other player is j p scott who played everything else, the so called "producer" martin hannett thought this was the a side, but things turned out otherwise as we all know
Still remembered all the words when I first heard it again s few years back. This is when some singles had great b sides and this was one of them. Thanks for posting
Fantastic! I found True Love Songs on cassette in a charity shop in '83. Long worn-out now, this is a great reminder of some pretty accurate social history for those of us born in the late 50's. No PSP's, I-Pods or facebook for us then.....just white mice or guinea pigs, Church youth clubs, spots and bum-fluff and ne'er a thong nor a 'Brazilian' to be found, despite many a desperate teenage fumble! Try telling that to the youth of today!
Awesome tune!!! It's the little things like the "yeah" at 1:05 and the line about messing about in bus-stops/going to buy chips and the "I couldn't care...less" line that make this song absolute pure genius. Youthful naiveity at it's finest :-)
:) Can you remember the glossy photo of the heartbroken 'fellow' that was a freebie inside the LP. Along with a snakes n ladders type game of his life. LOL, classic!
I remember this when we were courting "dating as my daughter tells me is what it is known by now!) my wife's name is sharon and this is soo normal for then, freaky really, cos it sums up my 70s love life!!! as they say "you had to be there!"
This was actually the "A side" when it was originally released by Rabid records.Jilted john was the b side until Piccadilly radio & Radio Manchester started playing it in the summer of '78.Rabid couldn't afford to press enough copies that the public were asking for so they signed Jilted John to EMI.Then Jilted John became the "A side" & going steady the b-side.Even the cover was changed.Look up the original it is going for serious money on E-Bay LOL
yeh yeh i love sharon, yeh yeh she loves me ,yeh yeh we love each other and were so happy class b-side,bought the single when it came out summer of 1978 great days.
Then we go and buy some chips !!!!!!!.

WHAT a fantastic lyric. Fuck Dylan. "I used to think that I was dead ugly, but now I know I'm not bad lookin' really"
and that bass line.
