Ive been watching the simpsons for yrs. It was not the motivation for becoming atheist, committing crime, or being a bad person. It certainly raises good questions, but if anyone wants to learn about a negative impact on the culture and society of the US should definately read about god's works in the bible.
I love the Simpsons but don't consider them role models, nor do I attempt to emulate their wacky antics, because like most folk I can tell the difference between reality and fiction. That would be hard to explain to a priest, though.

I did however give other examples of why I can not call the Catholic church a force for good. Do not try to tell me that I am am misinformed on the matters of love, hate and anger. I don't think this priest gets that the Simpsons is not meant to be taken seriously. Actually the simpsons is just a parody on American and western culture. It's not actually a serious criticism of anything philosophical or deep. You notice how God is portrayed as a man in the sky and that good things happen to Flanders (mostly) but it's only to provoke thought and laughter.
Also, I spent a great deal of my childhood at 6pm everyday watching the simpsons and strangely I still retain my moral fibre and am at university. I see no harm in a cartoon.
Not only that, if you watched one of the Simpsons episodes, you'll see they have a fat man on TV (Rush) saying things like "LIBERALS HATE FAMILIES" and then instantly turn to half naked women in a plane with the pilots.

growing up, a religious friend of mine wasn't allowed to watch the simpsons at his house, so we always had to watch at mine. He's missionary in Africa now...makes me sad.

Actually the simpsons is just a parody on American and western culture. It's not actually a serious criticism of anything philosophical or deep. You notice how God is portrayed as a man in the sky and that good things happen to Flanders (mostly) but it's only to provoke thought and laughter.
Also, I spent a great deal of my childhood at 6pm everyday watching the simpsons and strangely I still retain my moral fibre and am at university. I see no harm in a cartoon.
