@turboman1505 why would that be stupid? In kyokushin those are not allowed because we do not use gloves. That's also why Tanaka ended with a cut over his eye. On the other hand if hansel would have hit him on the head, he would have ended with a broken hand. Full contact fights without gloves and with headpunches are carried out in Brazil and those are not fights, those are just bloodbaths, and defenitely not martial arts.
@kyokushinheart i am not saying that it should be a bloodbath or should take away from the true spirit of martial arts. what i am saying is that full contact is a test of endurance. what about taekwondo?? if this match had a taekwondo fighter instead, what would have happened? as you may know, taekwondo focuses on head kicks.
@turboman1505 I see the good intention in your comment, but that confirms me that you don't know that much about kyokushin...
Look around youtube for touraments or even kyokushin vs TKD and you'll see that it's very rare for us to get hit by a high kick.
When it happens it's the highpoint of the tournament and even ends up in compilation videos, the ones that manage to hit often to the head are considered among the best and the rest try to copy their technique.
@kyokushinheart i guess every style of martial arts has its advantages. i am not very well versed in kyokushin but i fought against one already. the style is very potent. even though i have a brown belt in taekwondo and a black belt in kalari kung fu, it was evident that kyokushin is very good. bruce lee once said that one needs to train every part of their body. i believe this is true. that's why even though some matches may seem to be bloodbaths, the fighters are actually trained to the limit
@turboman1505 why is that stupid? read the description, they fought in K-1 by kyokushin rules? if 2 fighters fight by boxing rules and one of then begin to hit lowkick or throw his opponent is that right? No, he'll be disqualificate. Same here, don't be selfish. P.S. If you fight in a ring there are rules you have to folow, even in 'bloodbaths' there are rules.
@Karebas as i said before, these restrictions put one of the fighters at a disadvantage. for instance, if you had a taekwondo vs boxing match, and you prevented the taekwondo fighter from using kicks, wouldn't he be at a disadvantage?
@turboman1505 not at all my friend, that wouldn't be a disadvantage, because nobody forces "taekwondo" fighter to step on a ring and fight by boxing rules, he can challenge а boxer, and make an agreetment to fight by taekwando rules)) You should understand that all fighters make an agreetment before the fight, and referee announce announces the rules at the ring to both fighters, and to break it the way Hansel did, at least it's not the spirit of martial art, he has no honor.
@Karebas these rules and agreements are only hindrances. in a REAL fight, you are not gonna tell the other person they are disqualified for punching you in the face. that's why MMA will always dominate traditional martial arts. i don't like MMA but its a fact.
@turboman1505 well, they have a lot of rules in different MMA competitions also. Like in UFC with the ridiculous rule that you can't kick someone who is technically on the ground.
hmmmm seems ridiculous. why would you want to give your opponent a chance to get back on his feet to beat you? sure martial arts is about honour but there is no honour in holding back while fighting. it will show that you are not putting out your full potential.
@turboman1505 There are rules in MMA too. In a "REAL fight" you're also not gonna tell the other person they can't kick you in the balls, headbutt you, use his fingers in your eyes, etc. All of that isn't allowed in MMA, so you could also say the MMA fighter won't be ready for a real fight.
Combat sports are what they are: sports. And sports have rules.
A real street fight is a completely different thing where anything can go.
@turboman1505 U are right about that, there is a 30 kg weight difference. But I thought we were already clear about why the rules in kyokushin are the way they are.
@kyokushinheart no what i meant was that these fighters were fighting under kyokushin rules. if the head punches were not allowed and the K1 fighter knew that, then he should not have fought in the first place. K1 places special emphasis on boxing and power punches, not too much about kicking as seen in kyokushin karate
@csxcsxcsxcsx100 wrong, If you think a martial art is defined by the competition rules, I advice you to take a step back and look at yourself as a matial artist...

@michinco Kyokushin cailms to be the strongest not the best, and it is deu to his training method and philosophy. @fasterthansound101 Many think it's because he doesn't have the technique or self control to do so, that would speak ill of him as a martial artist and put him at the level of just a common brawler. In my opinion he didn't follow the rules because he chose not to, that speaks ill of him as a person....
@JESUSISGREATEST In kyokushin a flaw is taken into account for the final outcome of a match. Not disqualification. After the 1st and 2nd puch he got 2 warnings, one more and he would be disqualified. The last punch that ended in a face cut, was the final warnig and the match ended.
Props to Kentaro for not complaining! I dont know but Hansel didnt seem to be aware of the rules at all -.- He probably even thinks that he was fighting well :D
the kyokushin fighter expected puches in the body (because is kyokushin rules! [not punches on head!] ) but if there are valid a punches on head the kyoku fighter it destroys.
if head punches were not allowed, then that guy was an asshole for breaking the rules like that. Maybe he had a personal grudge. Anyone know the story behind this?
@420jeb Remy practices Muy Thai and he lost to Filho, hard to think that there are still people thinking a style is better then another, Biological, cultural, mental and spiritual factors are the ones that determines who wins not the art.
that's the problem with kyokushin fighters, they train to fight in an environment where headshots don't happen. granted they change the distancing when they fight in fights against other styles, but even so, they're generally pretty bad with straight punches, side kicks, and front kicks aimed at the face. OR SO IT SEEMS.
@ubersum1 I disagree, all other kyokushin showed otherwise. In fact in kyokushin front, descending and side kicks to the head are most used due to the fact that face punch isn't allowed. It's true thoe that for the proper reflexes against facepunches, U go the extra mile and train one day a week boxing techniques.
ln my opinion it's the same as MMA requires ju-jitsu regardless of the style, more of a complement than a flaw.
In this match the fighters were not allowed to throw punches to the head (jodan)!!! The fight was on kyokushin tournament rules. It seems that the rules were in Japanese only 'cause Hansel Nightmann circumvented them repeatedly, and ultimately being disqualified. That is the reason why Kentaro kept using his legs and only hitting oi and gyaku tsuki to the chudan area (body),not because he did not trained to hit jodan(to the head). In kyokushin you also train to hit jodan the same way a boxer would.
@ubersum1 While I nonetheless have great respect for the kyokushinkai, I agree that not getting used to jodan-tsuki is a huge detriment to being able to do well outside of sport fighting. For that matter, it's anti-karate, as a great deal of karate training, like jodan age uke, one of the first techniques any karateka learns, is based on defending punches to the face. And offensively too, tegatana-ganmen-uchi is direct to the neck/head as well as the hammerfist, are fundamental to karate
@elenchus oh same here, kyokushin is totally one of my fav martial arts. and im sure that when they train normally, people learning kyokushin probably have no worse defense against punches to the face, but people training mostly for competition, ie, the "stars" seem to have poor punch reflexes. you could say the same of any martial arts with scoring systems that are different to real life i suppose. the same way i reckon a good fast kick to the balls would take out any "mma superstar" rofl
@ubersum1 yes, I think it's fair to say that Kyokushin is at least no WORSE off than other heavily sport-centric martial arts like boxing, judo or tae kwon do, where the rules of their competitions create substantial limitations on fighters. That probably wouldn't be that big of a deal, except that the sport is essentially all-consuming (and eventually becomes totally inseparable) from the foundational art and the students spend little or no time coping with techniques outside of their rules
@ubersum1 My foundational art is yoseikan budo, a heavily judo-influenced jujutsu art. Now I study shito-ryu karate and I teach the sweeps, throws etc of shito-ryu in the school. Learning from my past mistakes (in my opinion), I ask the students not to wear gi tops on those days so they don't get used to having the good, easy grip or having access to the standard judo chokes, because they almost certainly won't be there to help them in real life.
this fight was fought under kyokushin rules! bare knukles, no punches to the head, only body shots. kicks an knees to the head are all cool. Its about who can take more beating and if you want to knock the other guy out, you have to either kick/knee him in the head or punch his body until he has no ribs left. However the big fellow (the cheater) went with punches for the head every time the japanese (Tanaka) came near..
@yihate It's the same as if in a boxing fight one guy would win cuz he headbutts his oponent and breakes his nose. Hansel lost cuz he hurted his oponent with unallowed strikes.
look at them wearing no gloves. It means no face punching is allowed, in kyokukushin rules. Yet the dutch fighter keeps facepunching the japanese fighter. After several punching he does it again and eventually gets disqualified
What i don't understand is what the hell the K1 fighter is doing. It's not that hard to don't hit the kyokushin fighter in the head. It's kyokushin rules. In the other Kyokushin vs K-1 challenge fights the kyokushin fighter played by K1 rules.
if you dont know anything about martial arts dont comment on it. i dont know if anyone noticed the blows to the head were one sided because it was sposed to be kyokushin rules. and if you think its bullshit with no head shots. have a look at the 3 fights before this one where kyokushin kicks the shit out of the kick boxers. if you agree no head shots. its a bit of a surprise when you cop one no?
@Buli0n This fight proves that headblows should wear protencion otherwise it will end in cuts and injuries, not in OK or win cuz of combat superiority.
To say a fight is the best without rule follow and 40 to 50 pounds wight difference... well U can try to make your ponit about kyokushin and I'm not the one to U re wrong or right (I do not consider myself a martial arts eminence) but I advice U to be more pragmatic about this fight.
(not intentioned to start a post fight just an advice)
@mb0slice a full contact fighter wouldn't survive a kyokushin tournament either... unless he trains his nuckles and rips to get used to the feeling of bare hands impact. Likewise the kyokushin fighter would have to train boxing to enter such competition world. Like all other kyokushin that I posted that fought with K-1 rules.
@mb0slice I understand your point, but they where forbidden after the 1st tournament. All the fights ended not because of a KO, or combat superiority, but cuz of cuts and injuries.
So there were just 2 options, put the gloves on or keep the naked fist and forbid the headblows.
Right now U got the choice, royama is doing kyokushin tournaments allowing headshots but with protection, or U can stick with the tradition.
4 me it is about the fighting spirit no other martial art teaches that well...
@kyokushinheart To further your point, another huge risk is that of broken bones. The fists have little to know muscle, or fat on them to use as cushion. You're getting basically bare bone against bare bone when you punch to the face. Two things can potentially happen then. You shatter your hand, or you shatter their face. One of, or both can happen and that is a serious injury. When you kick to the face, usually you're using your shin, or your heel or the ball of your foot. Harder to break.
@mb0slice Kyokushinkai IS a full contact karate style. Full contact means you have to hit your opponent with all your strong, not you can hit everywhere you want (face). Kyokushin is a full contact style where you can't hit punch to the head (obvious since there are no protections) like kickboxing is a full contact fighting sport when you can't hit low kicks (except low kick kickboxing tournaments).
what the fuck, if head punches are not allowed his such a moron for keeping doing them. and for that bulli0n guy, you cant say nothin about kyokushin wether you like it or not kyokushin is one of the most brutal fighting styles, so shut the fuck up!!
If the rules were no seiken(fist) zuki(strike) to the atama(head) and the hakujin(white guy) keeped doing it he should have been given a warning and then a point should have been taken and after that DQ, but the reality is that you should protect yourself at all times. The Kyokushin karateka should have adapted to that waza(technique)and did a jodan shomen geri(high front kick) to the hakujin no kao(face). Osu
HONESTLY, I CAN'T TELL WHAT THE RULES OF THIS FIGHT ARE. The big loser in all this is K-1 for not telling either one of them what the real rules are.
If fist-to-head strikes were illegal, then that white guy would'dve known that and wouldn't have done it, but apparently nobody told him the rules. So, not his fault
what the F ! ... this is driving me crazy .... why the hell is that yellow thing punching to the head ? if i were the japanese guy i would hit 1 direct punch 4 every1 that i get ! ... im pretty sure he'll get dropped
@prophetezekiel The worst part is that neither of them was allowed to throw head punches, Hansel just couldn't control himself properly and Tanaka stuck by the rules even when Hansel threw like... 2 blows not to the head.
That´s not weakness that is sticking to the rules, if U like this fight then a box fight where the one punches to the groing is the winner and best fighter? In a Judo fight the one hitting with the head to the face? please....
Next thing U´ll post is U would like to see remy win agains filho by a bite to the nose? (I mean since they already punch to the face)
i think that not allowing all punches in grappling fight or kickin or hitting to the groin is more natural than not allowing clinch, head punches, good guard and all this stuff in striking style which claims to be the strongest karate ever ;]... Tanaka doesn't even know how to protect his face even it was a foul.
Every fight association has their rules, even ultimate fighting imposes the use of gloves, otherwise every fight would end with cuts in the face and disqualification, so my argument here is that IF U agree to a fight U stick to those rules. On the other hand it's true, all kyokushin that won here trained boxing, BUT... kyokushin statement is not that it is strong not the best, cuz of their rules. U agree?
If you don't know this case stinks, mostly like every kyokushin (IKO1) connection with other style, it's not competition between guys with passion it's only fight between businessman's(A.M.) muppets. This whole tournament was only another propaganda and commercial for kyokushin, more famous = more practicioners = more cash for Kancho. Hansel's real goal was to show true about kyokushin fighting methods that's all.
I do not know about that, so I can't say if U're right or wrong. Besides, I train in the IKO Sosai, not IKO 1 so, less argument about that.
What can't agree with U is that Hansel's attitude isn't something to celebrate in ANY case, if he wanted to proof an eventual flaw in kyokushin's style, the right way is to ask for a fight with someone your wight (if U want to hit to the face) and use the proper protection, cuz that's why kyokushin doesn't wear any...
'Hansel's real goal was to show true about kyokushin fighting methods that's all' - So you would be alright with someone kicking a boxer in the nuts? totally against the rules of boxing but would show the flaws of boxing? rediculous! He knew the rules, but could not keep his no control disrespectful ass within them. If you don't like the rules, don't enter.
rediculous is comparing boxing to kyokushin ;/ ... fighting in knockdown rules is unrealistic and stupid, and this K1 "match" was just another bigmoneyshow from Matsui ...
rediculous is comparing boxing to kyokushinYou mean like when Rick Roufus (former US cruiser weight boxing champ) lost to Filho (Kyokushin) under K1 rules? Talk your ignorance elsewhere.
yes, i remember Filho was training under boxing and muay thai masters when he was preparing for K1... i hope you mean this Filho who lost to LeBanner shortly after taking first place in Kyokushin Karate World Championships?
You mean the Lebanner who lossed to Andy Hug?... We can do this all day. The point you were originally trying to make is that it is alright to step outside established agreed upon rules to show the weakness of an opponents art which is absolute bullshit. If you can't stay within the rules don't enter. Next you will think its alright for BJJ stylist to choke out a kickboxer in a kickboxing match because it shows the weakness of kickboxing.
You don't know Andys history in Kyokushin? really? Also surley you are aware that Seido's routes are Kyokushin. And once again you fail to respond to the question at hand... ah well.
i know but kyokushin was too hermetic to prove his superiority over other styles in other kinds of competition and Andy started Seidokaikan to improve his skills in more realistic combat sport. Yes, thanks God the only thing that connect kyokushin and seidokaikan is history.
Andy Hug, Michael Thompson, Sam Greco all went to Seido for money. They wished to turn professional which kyokushin fighters were not permitted to do without do in those days withoutrsigning their membership. Ishi created Seido for this reason. It was an attempt to create a professional format for Kyokushin stylists. I get the feeling that you believe that tournament permitted technique represents the whole art which is just ignorant..... and still you offer no response to original question.
You seem to believe it is alright to punch to the head when the rules say you can't because this shows the floors of the ruleset. Therefore I ask is it alright to kick a boxer in the nuts in a boxing match or to punch a ju jitsu guy in the mouth in a ju jitsu event or choke out a thai boxer in a muay thai contest to show the floors of these styles? Of course not. I say again if you cannot stay within the rules don't enter.... try to stay on topic ;]
Pero ¿ este tío se sabe las normas de pelea ? ,me parece increíble su aptitud y la del arbitro peor, debió de ser descalificado cuando agrede a su rival en el suelo nada mas empezar el combate

@JESUSISGREATEST In kyokushin a flaw is taken into account for the final outcome of a match. Not disqualification. After the 1st and 2nd puch he got 2 warnings, one more and he would be disqualified. The last punch that ended in a face cut, was the final warnig and the match ended.

that's the problem with kyokushin fighters, they train to fight in an environment where headshots don't happen. granted they change the distancing when they fight in fights against other styles, but even so, they're generally pretty bad with straight punches, side kicks, and front kicks aimed at the face. OR SO IT SEEMS.
ubersum1 10 months ago
@ubersum1 I disagree, all other kyokushin showed otherwise. In fact in kyokushin front, descending and side kicks to the head are most used due to the fact that face punch isn't allowed. It's true thoe that for the proper reflexes against facepunches, U go the extra mile and train one day a week boxing techniques.
ln my opinion it's the same as MMA requires ju-jitsu regardless of the style, more of a complement than a flaw.
kyokushinheart 10 months ago 2
In this match the fighters were not allowed to throw punches to the head (jodan)!!! The fight was on kyokushin tournament rules. It seems that the rules were in Japanese only 'cause Hansel Nightmann circumvented them repeatedly, and ultimately being disqualified. That is the reason why Kentaro kept using his legs and only hitting oi and gyaku tsuki to the chudan area (body),not because he did not trained to hit jodan(to the head). In kyokushin you also train to hit jodan the same way a boxer would.
seby123321 9 months ago
@ubersum1 While I nonetheless have great respect for the kyokushinkai, I agree that not getting used to jodan-tsuki is a huge detriment to being able to do well outside of sport fighting. For that matter, it's anti-karate, as a great deal of karate training, like jodan age uke, one of the first techniques any karateka learns, is based on defending punches to the face. And offensively too, tegatana-ganmen-uchi is direct to the neck/head as well as the hammerfist, are fundamental to karate
elenchus 9 months ago
@elenchus oh same here, kyokushin is totally one of my fav martial arts. and im sure that when they train normally, people learning kyokushin probably have no worse defense against punches to the face, but people training mostly for competition, ie, the "stars" seem to have poor punch reflexes. you could say the same of any martial arts with scoring systems that are different to real life i suppose. the same way i reckon a good fast kick to the balls would take out any "mma superstar" rofl
ubersum1 9 months ago
@ubersum1 yes, I think it's fair to say that Kyokushin is at least no WORSE off than other heavily sport-centric martial arts like boxing, judo or tae kwon do, where the rules of their competitions create substantial limitations on fighters. That probably wouldn't be that big of a deal, except that the sport is essentially all-consuming (and eventually becomes totally inseparable) from the foundational art and the students spend little or no time coping with techniques outside of their rules
elenchus 9 months ago
@ubersum1 My foundational art is yoseikan budo, a heavily judo-influenced jujutsu art. Now I study shito-ryu karate and I teach the sweeps, throws etc of shito-ryu in the school. Learning from my past mistakes (in my opinion), I ask the students not to wear gi tops on those days so they don't get used to having the good, easy grip or having access to the standard judo chokes, because they almost certainly won't be there to help them in real life.
elenchus 9 months ago
this fight was fought under kyokushin rules! bare knukles, no punches to the head, only body shots. kicks an knees to the head are all cool. Its about who can take more beating and if you want to knock the other guy out, you have to either kick/knee him in the head or punch his body until he has no ribs left. However the big fellow (the cheater) went with punches for the head every time the japanese (Tanaka) came near..

mb0slice 1 year ago
@mb0slice a full contact fighter wouldn't survive a kyokushin tournament either... unless he trains his nuckles and rips to get used to the feeling of bare hands impact. Likewise the kyokushin fighter would have to train boxing to enter such competition world. Like all other kyokushin that I posted that fought with K-1 rules.

@kyokushinheart dude i dont understand what kind of combat sport is it when HEADSHOTS aren't allowed :\
mb0slice 1 year ago
@mb0slice I understand your point, but they where forbidden after the 1st tournament. All the fights ended not because of a KO, or combat superiority, but cuz of cuts and injuries.
So there were just 2 options, put the gloves on or keep the naked fist and forbid the headblows.
Right now U got the choice, royama is doing kyokushin tournaments allowing headshots but with protection, or U can stick with the tradition.
4 me it is about the fighting spirit no other martial art teaches that well...
kyokushinheart 1 year ago
@kyokushinheart thanks for the explanation, dude now i see what its all about
mb0slice 1 year ago
@kyokushinheart To further your point, another huge risk is that of broken bones. The fists have little to know muscle, or fat on them to use as cushion. You're getting basically bare bone against bare bone when you punch to the face. Two things can potentially happen then. You shatter your hand, or you shatter their face. One of, or both can happen and that is a serious injury. When you kick to the face, usually you're using your shin, or your heel or the ball of your foot. Harder to break.
Eregon111 1 year ago
@mb0slice
You just have to understand that anyway it wouldn't be a sport no more if kyokushin punches to the head were allowed...it would be serial homicides.

BEST FIGHT! Shows all weaknes of kyokushin fighters.
Buli0n 2 years ago
That´s not weakness that is sticking to the rules, if U like this fight then a box fight where the one punches to the groing is the winner and best fighter? In a Judo fight the one hitting with the head to the face? please....
Next thing U´ll post is U would like to see remy win agains filho by a bite to the nose? (I mean since they already punch to the face)
kyokushinheart 2 years ago
i think that not allowing all punches in grappling fight or kickin or hitting to the groin is more natural than not allowing clinch, head punches, good guard and all this stuff in striking style which claims to be the strongest karate ever ;]... Tanaka doesn't even know how to protect his face even it was a foul.
Buli0n 2 years ago
I agree on some things with U on others I do not:
Every fight association has their rules, even ultimate fighting imposes the use of gloves, otherwise every fight would end with cuts in the face and disqualification, so my argument here is that IF U agree to a fight U stick to those rules. On the other hand it's true, all kyokushin that won here trained boxing, BUT... kyokushin statement is not that it is strong not the best, cuz of their rules. U agree?
kyokushinheart 2 years ago
If you don't know this case stinks, mostly like every kyokushin (IKO1) connection with other style, it's not competition between guys with passion it's only fight between businessman's(A.M.) muppets. This whole tournament was only another propaganda and commercial for kyokushin, more famous = more practicioners = more cash for Kancho. Hansel's real goal was to show true about kyokushin fighting methods that's all.
Buli0n 2 years ago
I do not know about that, so I can't say if U're right or wrong. Besides, I train in the IKO Sosai, not IKO 1 so, less argument about that.
What can't agree with U is that Hansel's attitude isn't something to celebrate in ANY case, if he wanted to proof an eventual flaw in kyokushin's style, the right way is to ask for a fight with someone your wight (if U want to hit to the face) and use the proper protection, cuz that's why kyokushin doesn't wear any...
kyokushinheart 2 years ago
IKO1 stinks... if you are in Sosai Group, you don't need to worry about Matsui's karatekas and he's show off.

You mean the Lebanner who lossed to Andy Hug?... We can do this all day. The point you were originally trying to make is that it is alright to step outside established agreed upon rules to show the weakness of an opponents art which is absolute bullshit. If you can't stay within the rules don't enter. Next you will think its alright for BJJ stylist to choke out a kickboxer in a kickboxing match because it shows the weakness of kickboxing.
aldridge1 2 years ago
Andy Hug? Seidokaikan (Kickboxing Karate) karateka? right... ;]
Buli0n 2 years ago
You don't know Andys history in Kyokushin? really? Also surley you are aware that Seido's routes are Kyokushin. And once again you fail to respond to the question at hand... ah well.
aldridge1 2 years ago
i know but kyokushin was too hermetic to prove his superiority over other styles in other kinds of competition and Andy started Seidokaikan to improve his skills in more realistic combat sport. Yes, thanks God the only thing that connect kyokushin and seidokaikan is history.
Buli0n 2 years ago
Andy Hug, Michael Thompson, Sam Greco all went to Seido for money. They wished to turn professional which kyokushin fighters were not permitted to do without do in those days withoutrsigning their membership. Ishi created Seido for this reason. It was an attempt to create a professional format for Kyokushin stylists. I get the feeling that you believe that tournament permitted technique represents the whole art which is just ignorant..... and still you offer no response to original question.
aldridge1 2 years ago
which original question? ;/ for money? huh... i think the only "karateka" who's doing something for money is Matsui ;]
Buli0n 2 years ago
You seem to believe it is alright to punch to the head when the rules say you can't because this shows the floors of the ruleset. Therefore I ask is it alright to kick a boxer in the nuts in a boxing match or to punch a ju jitsu guy in the mouth in a ju jitsu event or choke out a thai boxer in a muay thai contest to show the floors of these styles? Of course not. I say again if you cannot stay within the rules don't enter.... try to stay on topic ;]
