Do they still smell bad at all once the scent glands are removed? I know ferrets have a distinct odor once theirs are gone. It's not really a bad odor, but it is a little strong and musky.
@wcplcp Skunks actually don't smell that bad they keep themselves very clean. It's the fluid they squirt in defense that smells bad. Baby skunks also produce the fluid but they don't squirt very much of it til they are older as babies it's a very fine mist barely noteable.

A skunk is a skunk, and trust me, the smell is over powering..enough to make you sick...i kno wbecause one sprayed outside my house....and it was inside......that scent is soo hard to get it out of fabrics, especially pets. Our dog didn't get sprayed directly, but we had to replace his collar because the stench got into its fibres so if your pet gets sprayed, peroxide will help and replace the collar, because you can'tget that smell out.

my grandmas friend had a skunk named Fefe and you dont have to scare them for them to spray it just happens like a fart hahaha xD she went to get the stinker taken out but the vet gave Fefe too much sleeping gas she never woke up :(

I am visited by skunk families every winter, they prefer the red biscuits from the kibble n bits and my ranch dog will wait while they eat, they all hang out in the garage together which I leave open for them in winter. haven't been sprayed yet. They only make have about 15cc of civit and it takes them about 10 days to make it so they are pretty conservative with it. Last winter I was able to pet one of the babies. Only have pics no video.
Skunks only spray as a last resort. Seriously you have to try hard to make them spray before they do. Also when they are this young if they spray it is only a mist.
The scent cland can be removed and is with pet skunks. But it's against the law (here at least) to keep them as pets, so it would be more of a challenge to get a vet to do that.
