It's just a matter of time before they take over the roads!
Someday you will pay a higher insurance premium if you don't have a robotic vehicle (since you are not as good a driver as a robot). Some people cannot parallel park a car, and the Lexus robotic car can already do that.
Cement would not affect all sensors, some use radar such as the CMU robots Highlander and Sandstorm. But any cameras or lidar sensors would indeed be blinded if the screen goes blank. Stanley (and maybe others) had air hoses directed at the lidar screens to keep dust off of the screens, a water hose could be used to clean off mud if needed.
Being a Doctor myself, and a few friends found out all you need is a bag of mud to disable any robot sensor. Simplicity. Throw cement mud on any of it's fake eyes or sensor points and it is BLIND. Robots are not adept at wiping off their eyes in their programing.
what about the urban challenge? were you able to work out whatever programing issues you guys had during the grand challenge in order to compete against Junior(Stanford) and Boss(Carnegie Melon) in the urban challenge? your car is pretty cool, good luck to you guys.
do you have any vibrators?
