I have seen this so called heritage management plan and it a compilation of garbage! There is hardly any truth to it and it will allow the showcase areas to be demolished and chips of it to be placed into some sort of collage. The plans that were put together on this video clearly demonstrated what needed to be done to retain the grandeur of the former theatre. I fail to understand how this was approved and by whom?
Those showcase areas are a tribute to the work of 1920s painters, decorators, plasterers and artisans. This sort of craftsmanship and attention to detail is not found anywhere else in Brisbane today and should by all rights be heritage listed! They are essential in demonstrating the visual fantasy of the original theatre auditorium and complement the entrance lobby as originally intended!
The Brisbane civic must be taken seriously by the developers. A more thorough examination needs to be carried out on what is perhaps Brisbane’s most important cultural building.
I believe that any development of this place needs to acknowledge the social history of the Regent which has long been an outstanding building to the people of Brisbane. It is the only reasonable result for this building of substantial significance.
This would certainly improve the design plans for the regent tower. The current plans for the development are bleak and incompatible with the heritage listed foyer. This is a great idea for the redevelopment.
I have seen the “interpretive display” of the former festival hall where festival towers now stands today. Interpretive displays almost always fail to suitably display social and historical fabric. They are a woefully inadequate attempt to display the significance of any social or cultural place. The suggestions demonstrated in this video on the other hand are a much more acceptable outcome for the planned Regent tower.
I would hate to see the old plasterwork from the showcase areas being arranged into an interpretive display like the one at Festival Towers and the QIC building where the Metro used to be.
The ideas in this video for reusing the plasterwork in the new development are much more appropriate than just displaying remnants of the showcase areas.
Another victim to the changing face of our city. The blueprints in this video are much improved than the ones released by the developers. Who wish to destroy this iconic part of Brisbane without any consideration for what has for over 8 decades been the centre of Brisbane city.
I remember all the great the theatres of Queen St including His Majesties, The Wintergarden, The Odeon, St James and The Tivoli in Albert St. The Regent remains as the very last theatre/cinema in Brisbane and I feel that any redevelopment of what is the heart of Brisbane needs to be fully respect Brisbane residents wishes. This is a great proposal video and demonstrates the only outcome that is satisfactory.
I would expect that the developers should have a conscience and retain the original plasterwork from the showcase areas and reuse it in the new development. It can be easily done, and is the least they could do after they take away our last cultural building. Good to see nether the council, government nor developers could not come up with this, but took the actions of concerned citizens to demonstrate what is blatantly obvious.
Awesome stuff! Best outcome really is the full restoration, but aside from leaving the grand old lady in her current 4 theatre format and actually putting it out for tender to a new operator, this is by far the best future for her - should the monstrosity of yet another office tower be deemed as the fate of Our Beloved Regent Theatre... Still, Melbourne beats Brisbane hands down for how it treats its iconic treasures and continues their use to celebrate its own culture!

Brilliant video, these development plans would much better respect the important cultural aspects of The Regent.

A much better development plan of our last cultural building here in Brissie. It would be a real shame to see it knocked down.

I love what these guys have done. It is definitely a compromise, but let's face it, at the moment we are faced with keeping basically nothing at all!
Please help make this a YouTube hit!
