Always reminds me of holidays in the 60's when I was youngster on holiday with the family. This always use to be blearing out of of cafe' on the Promenade by the beach!
Folks there are 3 only 3 instrumental themes universally beloved wuth POWER LOVE& DURABILITY. Strangers on The Shore, A Summer Place and Our Winter Love all in the 60s. there are other instrumentals we love but these 3 stand the true test of time this doo wop/rocknroll historian will tell you. all 3 will go beyond ETERNITY. Our thanks to the three composers . these songs will forever live in our hearts be it young or old this i can tell you. thanks to all 3 GIANTS. TOMK i know my MUSIC
NIce, a great tune from an era that I loved. I guess growing up in the 60's had it's ups and downs but the music was just fantastic from that era. I hope you finally did some music lessons.
No i never got to the music but as you see i still love good music and when I went on here to write you a reply I got shivers all over my body hearing this great everlasting piece of music. I did end up an Artist and Fashion Photographer.
My nine year old nephew has been playing the piano for three years and I give him a lot of encouragement.
I have a signed bowler hat of Aker Bilks..his hat was being auctioned at a charity event in Luton..he beat the record for being number one in the charts with this song..
Also you should read the words...if you choose the 1st version of it from YouTube that is listed. Click on "more info" in the top, upper right-hand screen. The words are as beautiful as the song. This song was also used as a love song between Patsy Cline and her husband, Charlie in the movie..."Sweet Dreams." They danced so beautifully and tenderly in the movie to this very song. What a movie and what a song! Enjoy!-Sandra-S.C.
I thought I was the only one who felt like that. It's my favorite instrumental. It reminds me of my childhood, summer, and a time when things seemed a little slower.
Does anyone have the video of when this was posted as a short for movies? I remember it from so long ago. Also, could someone please post the "flipside" of this record...it was called "Take these lips"...that was the most erotic tune ever recorded!
i am only 20 but i have listen to Acker Bilk since i was young he is the man the dapper man would love to go over to Pensford and see him in his local that would be cool.
Just supping away your pint and who happens to be a local but Acker Bilk that would be strange
I can remember listening to acker as a kid,, my dad always played his record full volume in a morning.. it brings back such happy memories,, his music also allows me to drift away for a while to another place,, its so relaxing and beautiful... aria is my first fav,, but they are all fantastic,, a very talented man....*************
"Strangers on the Shore" = this clarinet music is the sweetest sound around. Granted not everyone enjoys soft hit music from days gone by, but I for one sure do. This site made my day and this is just as I remember my father playing it on the record player.
This was the first time my wife every heard the song. She was lying on the bed and had started to take a nap when I began playing it. I stopped it for a moment and she said, "Don't stop it that sounds really great." Thanks BlueBirdUK
if they ever make a film about acker bilks life story then surely there is only one actor to play him......robert de niro. look at early pictures of bilk and you can see the resemblance.
One of the best songs ever and from a real musician. I started playing clarinet at 9 and met Acker when I was 10, now at the tender age of 41 I'm still playing and Acker is my all time idol. Saw him last year, aged 78, still as good as ever.
For my parents..they have been married for 43 years..this was their song when they first met..all the way to their wedding day..I love you Mom and Dad..a true instrumental masterpiece..absolutely one of the most romantic pieces of music I have ever heard..thank you for posting this beauty!
my brother always playes this song acker bilk played its an amazing song my dad that passed away 3 years ago loved it in school in music my brother played it always i no the whole song just becasue of him
I'm 57 and as a girl went to CYO dance. The couple that ran the dance ended every night with Stranger on the shore. I was 15 and still remember them dancing, and that wonderful music.
What a beautiful memory mssear. I also remember being a small kid at the time and hearing this played on Los Angeles radio. It makes me miss my wonderful Dad and those great days.
Thanks so much Bluebirduk, for posting this gem! Although I was just born the year this melody appeared, I grew up with it. Exquisite memories. We don't get music like that anymore.
Thank you for the memory lane sometimes it is so necessary to wander thru and recall the lovely sensations that were around during different times thank you once again
Thank you for posting this video :) Brings me back to when I was tot & visiting my auntie & uncle. They'd play this, and my uncle would go out into the kitchen, grab my auntie & waltz her around & around! LOL!Such beautiful music to relax to!
I listened to this record(yes record), everynight as a child and love Mr. Acker Bilk, and Billy Vaughn as well aas the other great orchestras of that time. But no one could come close to Acker Bilk!!! Do you by any chance have his(and I do not believe anyone else has done it) version of "Is this the Blues" It is an incredibly beautiful and hard to find song, I had the album and lost it in a house fire. Thank you linda

The absolute greatest instrumental ever played. I am 63 years old and there is no other song that compares. It will be played at my funeral.
