  • FINALLY...somebody who knows how to get a good full Billy Squier tone out of a Tele. The Squier Affinity Series stuff plays surprisingly well once you perform standard setup procedures. (Install a good brand of strings, check/adjust the neck bow, set the string height and intonation) And many of them play quite nicely right out of the box, as well. Not bad at all for an import line of guitars. Bonus points for the ever classic PacMan shirt!

  • I'm torn. I have the money to get either a 72 corvette or a 63 telecaster. Which one? The vette needs some restoration and the telecaster is perfect.

  • Nice playing. Which song is that riff right at 50 sec in?

  • hey man how to you restring through that bridge? Iam having a hell of a time getting the string to go up to the saddle since its not a string through. any help would be great.

  • sounds good man.

What kind of amp are you using?

  • Props for the Pac Man shirt!

  • Cool video! I have a Affinity Tele too. It's a very nice guitar. =)

  • From high to low.... Awesome tone

  • whoever is playing is the man!

  • what is the song on 6:10 ?

  • @TheDeadStare666 Learn How To Live.

  • @comicbungle but what band ?

  • @TheDeadStare666 uhhh...Billy Squier!

  • think im gonna buy this guitar, love the sound!

  • Does this guitar stay in tune?

  • Yeah, never had any tuning problems with it.

  • btw the "Squier" line of Fender guitars has absolutely nothing to do with Billy Squier. it's just a coincidence that the spelling is the same.

  • @boneypart I'm aware of this, I'm just making a play on the similarities in the name, plus it just seemed like a good idea since that's the music I was demoing on this guitar.

  • What kind of distortion pedal do you use?

  • In this it's a Digitech GNX1

  • Anyone know how to put a strap screw thing on the other side of a guitar because im a lefty.

  • @MrWiiPS360 Take the strap button out of the top of the guitar, get a drill, and drill a hole a little smaller than the screw in the button. Then screw it in.

  • nice rifing dude. i own two new squires.. . standard tele, and a sunburst s.e. strat. cool guitars.

  • Too Daze Gone @ 2:28 was just awesome. Got that Billy Squier tone right on the button.

  • lovely tone. and with a squier tele, i think i'll rethink on the squeir.

  • Have that guitar, it's awesome!

  • Tou play awansome xD

    And thats a great tone.

Are there the stock pickups ?

  • You are getting some awesome tones. Most people wouldn't expect that out of the gear you're running, but you obviously know how to tweak the dials! Good vid!

  • what song is he playing around 1:00?

  • it's called Rich Kid

  • Billy Squier played The Big Beat on a Fender Tele?

  • Most likely. The guitars I've seen him with the most during the early days as a solo artist are...

    - Sunburst Les Paul, 59' Burst style (may have very well been one)

    - Sunburst early 60's Telecaster Custom (the one in the video for The Big Beat)

    - Sunburst 60's Fender Stratocaster, I think this is the same one he's been using lately

  • fantastic brumming :D !!

  • dieses geile arschloch fegt wiene drecksau! mach nur weiter so!!!!!!

  • EY

yeeeehyepeeehaayeeh! what kind fucking wunderfull sound! He knows whats a electric-guitar give! Some orgasum!!!!

  • Good!!! Tanks, is china??

  • Who is the exact espeficicacion of your guitar??? Did you use algun pedal??? I wait for a respuesta thank you

  • Bone stock 2007 Squier Affinity Series telecaster (no modifications).

Run straight into a Digitech GNX-1 setup for a Marshall stack type sound with a light chorus.

  • wow, thats nice rhythm guitar playing and a good sound.

  • I have the same guitar but its sounds like a crap now how can I fix that?

    I have a Fender Frontman 15G & BOSS D-1

  • no offense dude but its probably your amp. When did you buy it?

  • love your kinda crunch

  • You got any upgrades on your Squier tele? I replaced the cheap plastic nut on mine. Thinking about the pick ups next. Nice Video.

  • Not yet, but as of late I've been thinking about putting on a string-through vintage-style bridge (with ashtray), and replacing the original pickups with Seymour Duncan Antiquities so they don't squeal anymore when I have this thing cranked out (I wax potted them and that did not help much).

  • whats the name of the song on 0:52? anyone know?

  • Rich Kid, off the Tale of the Tape album.

  • ey guy!

i have the same guitar. you play it very well, i'm trying to play your sound, buy it's not the same. how do yo do this?

  • Whats the name of the song you play at 6'23?

  • Learn how to live, off of Billy Squier's "Emotions in Motion" album.

  • THX, do you have a tab of the song? I can't find it anywhere!

  • Billy should be proud! very good!

  • hey man wats your setup?AMAZING TONE!!

  • On this I was using a Digitech GNX1 with patches I assembled myself using a MIDI interface and the editor software. It circles around the Marshall guitar amp model with a light chorus. It was what I was using for my primary sound at the time.

  • now this is what your suppose to do on a telecaster

  • 2:55 was AWESOME!!!

NOW THATS WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!!!

    Dm

  • Rock Me Tonight? Thats the Best one and You Stopped (looking for the chords)

  • i have a 2008 fender standard telecaster made in mexico..but im going to get a squre tele for my other guitar..I plan to change my stock pickup but listening to this dude playing I will keep my stock pick ups for good

  • i love my squier telecaster, when i plug in my amp Marshall it sounds like David Gilmour ^^

  • But David Gilmour usually uses Hiwatt Amplifiers and a Fender Stratocaster....;-)

  • and so what:?

  • creepingnet...

nice solid rhythm playing there, good tone... isn't it great that in 2009 we can buy an inexpensive guitar and sound so good?? (I love Digitech stuff) I have a 1995 Strat plus and I love it but I'm gonna get a Squier Tele, what's the point of paying 1500 bucks just for a logo! not sure which one yet but after watching your vid I'll take a close look at the Billy Squier.

    Thanks

  • NICE

    i'm gonna buy this one

nice when it sounds in overdrive

  • excellent!

anybody who dogs Squier guitars hasn't played one lately, don't know what they are doing in the first place, or they're just repeating what is said on stupid internet forums. Squier has gotten VERY good, especially in the last 2 years.

  • wow!!! with a squier!!! a great song!

  • Is it stock ? I think this is quite a heavy tone for a single coil...

  • Yep, 100% stock, still is.

  • Impressive.

  • how did u get tht tone :O

  • Digitech GNX1 Amp Modeling Pedalboard

    Marshall Amp Emulation

Major emphasis on the treble and midrange

4X12 Cab Emulation (don't remmeber what as I don't have the GNX1 anymore)

    A very light Stereo Chorus

    And a Very Light Echo

  • U definitely know your Squier.

  • Sounds great! Nice Guitar. I've been thinking about getting one. The telecasters have a great sound when overdriven.

  • i want put 2 joe barden telecaster in my squier..(i can buy 2 guitars with the money of pickups XD).It's a good choice?

  • I also have a squier telecaster and it's awesome, just fantastic

  • nice playing

  • is it worth the money to get this? im just looking for a third electric guitar, but this time, i want it specialized in Blues, Jazz n Rock n Roll... should i get the squier telecaster for $100-600 or Fender Telecaster for $1000-6000?

  • is it worth the money to get this? im just looking for a third electric guitar, but this time, i want it specialized in Blues, Jazz n Rock n Roll... should i get the squier telecaster for $100-600 or Fender Telecaster for $1000-6000?

  • squier telecasters are only $200 at guitar center

  • wow, in brazil it is 350 dollars

  • because brazil is a piece of shit country, and they're probably the guitars that fender makes in mexico. Much cheaper, but american fenders are way better and cooler!

  • ha, ha.........i'll give u the hot woman one.....but i don't care about soccer, and the U.S, still has a good soccer team, plus our woman are just as hot if not hotter......but what sets them aside from brazils woman is that they will actually put out! In Brazil u get to look at the woman, but in America, u get to fuck em..........ur not impressing me much my man. Brazil is still a piece of shit in my mind!

  • yet, lack of a brain.

  • you got hot women...yeah ill give you that

but the rest....your 3rd world pal

  • world pal?

  • ha he doesn't even know what 3rd world is. that's how bad his education is.

  • Please do not generalize that all americans are fat because when you make generalizations on a country its you who need to be educated!

  • You see sir this is why your wrong becase your generalizing on americans doesnt make you better but shows you up on the fool you really are so i am not saying anything about your country im just telling you personally to fuck off

  • s otwo wrongs make it right? u fucking doushe STFU and GTFO you tube

  • man stop pissing me off, i don't give a shit about what you think..

  • Really? You seem to be the one who can't spell, tobymanero. Did the mean security guards throw you over the border when you tried to climb the fence?

  • that's a really nice tone from that tele. i assume it has single coils? (can't quite tell from the angle you shoot your vid at), i wouldn't expect that kind of sound from single coils

  • yeah i have that tele its really nice if you use both single coil with distortion it sounds just about like that nice tone isnt it?

  • it's crazy about the cheapest tele you can get and they play and sound great full of tele character ...nice riffin by the way

  • really nice job man, im bout to buy the same guitar. just wondering, what amp you using and with what effects, sounds sick thats why, thanks man, keep rockin

    skinnyjeansg

  • Billy squier,is that what the squier series is named after, billy squier, the artist?

  • Nope, it's just a coincidence. Squier guitars come from V.C. Squier string company that Fender bought out in the 1960's. They had the name in the 80's, and decided to give it to their lower end models. Billy Squier has no affiliation.....except that he does play a Fender Telecaster on most of the early stuff (tale of the tape, Don't Say No...etc).

  • That's a GNX? You are the only person I've ever heard make one of those things sound good. Awesome job!

  • This version has got single coils or humbuckers?

  • Single coils, it's basically a Squier Affinity Telecaster with better wood and a 51' Tele style paintjob & pickguard.

  • Telecaster or Stratocaster???

  • Is this a hypothetical question?....I'll just pick Jaguar then.

  • The ans. is: Do you like the Strat or the Tele?

  • I like both, I'm not very discriminatory about guitars. I play strats sometimes, mostly for the extra sounds to be had with the middle pickup, and I've only recently picked up the Telecaster (this one is my first normal tele style tele), and I find I like it more than the strat as it's a bit hotter sounding in most cases. My #1 favs are the Jaguar, Jazzmaster, and Jag-Stang though.

  • However, for me the best Fender is the Telecaster...:)

  • What amp?

  • Digitech GNX1 Pedalboard/Amp Sim

  • Neat sound! is it with stock pickups?

  • yes

  • Rock on! Nice job!!!

  • Great tone on this vid and smooth playing.

  • Awesome vid. What are the chords for Big Beat?

  • Main Riff - F5, Eb5, Bb5

    Bridge - G, F

  • this riffs sound marvelous! where are they from? The tone is crunchy and just lovely. Reminds me of Jake E. Lee's tone on Ozzy's Bark at the moon.

  • They're from old Billy Squier songs (think "The Stroke" and "In The Dark"...but not "Rock Me Tonite"). I was using my usual tone at the time, I've kind-of been going back to that kind of sound lately using a Bugera amp, shame Youtube doesn't do that amp tonal justice though.

  • you kick ass. and you have absolutely amazing tone. =D

  • Dude, this guy has put all of Rich Kid right there for you!

    C#m to B (pull offs)to A to B (same)

he uses the same chords for the verse

C#min B A (Rich kids got the money...)

then he goes back to B (break down...) and brings the bass note of the chord up to C and then slams down to(there won't be nuthing for you) Emin to F# to A then to C#min with Billy dropping that root note down to C.

So, it's basically C#min, B, A, Em, F#m with Billy playing fills around the bass notes.

  • Yep, that's pretty much it, he's barring the C# and pulling off the 5th, 7th, and minor third, and pulling it off to B major, then goes to A, and takes the fifth and the octave and runs it up to the 4th, then the 6th fret, and repeat ad-nausium for the main riff.

  • Do you have the tabs to Rich Kid?

    Cant find them :S

  • This takes me back in a good way. Found myself singing along with all this stuff. I used to play all this too. On tabs, there was a great-great book from Cherry Hill likely out of print now. But, they sat with Billy and he tabbed out all his parts and even threw in some suggestions on how to get solos down because he used a ton of studio trickery in the day, backwards solos, etc. Also bent the headstock if I remember. Brilliant stuff, totally underrated and compiled very nicely right here.

  • what's the second song you played? great job!

  • Rich Kid, off of tale of the tape

  • What's the amps do you use ? And what is the setting ? That sound fucking good to me :P

  • On this I used a Digitech GNX1 Digital modeling pedal. I used the british hi-gain emulation for the amp sim, a Van-Halen style cab-sim (Marshall?), and had just about all the knobs maxxed out except the bass tastefully backed off to keep the tightness.

  • i love the sound of that tele how much did it cost because if its under $300 im in luck cuz i spent most of my money on my les paul

  • its $169

  • I paid $184 for mine, this is the first one of it's type I ever saw. They have another one at the store I got it at now.

  • thanks for the quick reply :) oh you rock man :)

  • Thanks

  • have you replaced your pickups? if so what ones do you use? seems like the P90's are a popular choice

  • Nope, just the stock Squier pickups.

  • Proof yet again that it's talent over gear - *great* tone! Also great takes on the Squier tunes! I have a '51 myself, cool little guitar!

  • hey nice sound.what amp or effects do u use?

  • In this vid I used a Digitech GNX1 straight through my old PIII computer with a SoundBlaster Live value sound card. I was using the emulated Marshall JCM800 setting with a light chorus on it, which is close to what I usually use regardless of the amp modeler I'm using.

  • Dude I love your TELLY! Awesome. Just mail it to me!

  • Very cool! your assessment of Billy Squier is very spot on. I do believe the record company failed to stay behind him marketing wise and this really hurt him. I think during that period of time the whole' Use them up and throw them away", thing started. I am curious, what type of amp you are using, sounds pretty good! Have you tried one of the Squier vintage modifieds yet? i played one the other day that was just killer!

  • wery coool!!!awasome

  • decided, I will buy that guitar, thank you for letting me hear its crying (beautiful)

  • awesome. thanks

  • howcome i can hardly find any billy squier tabs on the net? weird

anyway im interested in getting that guitar. i wanted to know your general opinion about it. if its worth it and all. also, is it light? as in, in weight. cause the guitar i own right now is damn heavy

    thanks

  • To answer the question on tabs, it's mostly because Billy Squier is highly underrated as a performer/musician, and when people started tabbing out songs, Billy Squier was being made fun of for that "Rock Me Tonite" video still (which I think is quite stupid, it's obvious the record company had it in for him when they made that one). So it's more or less his unpopularity, I should probably tab some of his stuff out and circulate it, I've been getting a lot of requests for Squier tabs lately.

  • As for the guitar, it's turned into one of my favorites, and thats saying a lot since I have guitars that some would argue are "better" because they cost more. The way I see it, there is no one "best" guitar unless your talking build quality.

  • In my opinion, it's probably one of the best deals Squier/Fender has come out with, a 51' style Telecaster for under $200, the last time they had anything like this was when I found some more accurate 1951-1953 style Japanese Squier Teles from the 80's for the same price around 1994 or so (I'm sure they are a lot more now). As for the weight, mine is VERY light, I carried it to IHOP and then home when I first bought it, and my arms were not tired when I got home, which says a lot.

  • Those Japanese Squier guitars from the early to mid 80's were actually great guitars. They actually used real vintage Fender Telecasters and Stratocasters as the template for those guitars. So the neck and body shapes are spot on like the original US made guitars. Nothing like the crappy guitars US Fender factory was turning out at the same time.

  • very cool

  • nice tone

  • very nice playing, very nice guitar,

  • Ah someone else who plays a squier.

  • i got that same guitar for 150 two days ago. sounds like 100 dollars more!

  • Awesome!

  • would u recomend me saving for a fender telecaster or get this little dude?

  • It really all depends on you and the guitar. I tried this one out out of 3 other Teles and it was the best one (the other one was a USA that played and felt about the same, and another Affinity in Black that felt and played like crap). Also, I dunno how long you've been playing or how partial you are to having a "popular" name on the headstock.

  • sweet ass tone and playing, what amp are you using?

  • I was using a Digitech GNX-1 on this video.

  • Awesome man!!! I love these songs... but I have a question: Is this the squier affinity telecaster?

  • Yep

  • for only 150 € sounds awsome!!!

  • Love your playing man. And the guitar. But what kind of amp do you use for your sound.

Some people think its just the guitar. amp and settings would be good to know also.

  • i just got one yesterday same color it plays really well except a few frets rattle when you play

  • i just found a faulty part on mine one frst isnt glued down well enough and somehow a string got caught under it good thing i have insurance from guitar center on it

  • does you tele have noises? at the bridge pickups

    ?

  • Only when the saddles get off-centered. That's fixed just by playing it, one way to know a good Tele is how much dirt is stuck in it's action screws on the bridge saddles.

  • good playing, im gettin me one of these lol

  • where did u get it and was this the $169 one?

  • I got it at Kennaly Keys music in Everett, cost me $184 at the time. They are now selling for less from what I've seen.

  • it really worth this money ++

Whats the neck profile like , is it slim?

  • The neck profile should be the same as that of the Affinity Series Teles fender sells (the non-blonde ones). It does feel slightly flatter to my hands though, probably because of the lack of a separate fretboard.

  • For the money I like the sound of this Squire Affinity better than a Fender American Tele. Have you ever played a Fender Special Lite Ash MIK with the hot Duncan pickups ($630)?

  • Nope, I have not been able to see one of those yet surprisingly. I don't look at Tele's too often, but by the time I was getting this one, I figured it was about time I got one. It's turning out to be one of my favorite axes for rhythm guitar parts.

  • Sweet sound man - what kind of amp / effects are u using ?

  • In this video it was a Digitech GNX1, I usually use a Behringer V-Amp Pro rackmount processor though.

  • I enjoyed your play. Please continue to enhance...You've got a very good foundation of talent on which to build :)

  • just avoid squiers in general. shotty workmanship

  • Well not everyone can afford a Fender y'know.

Besides, some of my Squires are better than my Fenders, Tele Custom for one is better Squire than Fender.

  • U are great player Dude!! Greetings!
