My guess is because, when they performed this live on some tv channel, they just made morrissey lip sing and the band to fake play their instruments. They gave morrissey a mic to hold to lip sing into, and morrissey knew they weren't fooling anyone, and didn't wanna look like an idiot. So he sarcastically took a bouquet of flowers on stage to sing into. It was this charming man that they performed on the tv show.
