Good gravy! Is it possible? At this late date, I might actually be warning up to the likes of Bette Midler! I've only liked her sultry Neil Sedakka cover, and of course the rauncous "Pretty Legs...", but now I see her as more than an also-ran comedienne; Not just a burleques and cabaret performer who ocassionally makes movies. And dig that old-time, lower east side New York City accent and manner of hers!
Wish she had developed her comedy chops. We have so few GOOD females. She'd brought style.

the Latoya parts were great, but i remember this interview and it had its awkward moments. She and Arsenio definitely didn't have the connection that, say, Bette had with Carson.
I read that Midler was offered Misery & Sister Act. I wish she chose those jobs including For the Boys but timing is everything. Arsenio had his hands full with Ms. M. He didn;t know where she was going. She is smart, funny and values Old Hollywood.
I too wish that.. it would have been a different film but a fun one! I don't know why she thought her fans wouldn't have liked that.. it would have shown a completely different side, just one to add to the many sides she already has.
She is more than capable for a role like "Misery" - Check out "The Rose" the scenes between her and her Manager, the scene with that Billy-Bob country-western singer. The woman has rage right under the skin...she covers it with compassion.

God I love her laugh. No Miss Midler, you will never be meeting LaToya at the bottom. You are just too Divine for that!

yes, sister act was originally hers, but she turned it down because she didn't want to offend the church again

I wish Miss M had accepted the role in "Misery"; that was a fabulous film. Bette could have got an Academy Award!

I agree, I would have loved to have seen her in that!
Having said that Kathy Bates is fabulous, and I'm glad she got recognised for that film
